June 5,2010 Relocation Cruise

Thanks Jill,
Which numbers were you in? I have read they can be quite noisy on deck 1 with engine sounds etc?

Disneymom7851 and myself were on deck one on the Wonder a while back and I don't remember there being any more noise than anywhere else on the ship. It is real conveniant if they are using the gangway in port as you can get on and off the ship VERY quickly. There is also no traffic since there are only a small number of cabins on the deck.

Hi,
Upgraded from Cat 12 to 11.

You can add us to the FE list. We were lucky enough to get one of the original FE's. Thanks Deb!

Updated.

As a reminder for everyone, the current updated list is on Page 17. Don't want you to have to go diggin' around forever!

Good Morning Cruisers!

Really ugly here today. We had high winds and snow last night - cannot report how high the winds were because the wind gauge is frozen But it sure looks like winter out there!

I really wish that the unpronouncable/untypeable volcano would stop so that I don't have to start worrying about non-revving to Europe!!

I'm with you - it seems to be calming down now - or at least, the planes are flying again - hope it stays that way!

So, I don't remember if this was posted or not and I couldn't find details on the DCL site...but, here is some cruise info:

Night 2 - Formal Night
Night 5 - Pirate Nightpirate:
Night 6 - Semi-Formal Night

Also, there are no fireworks on the Northern European cruises. The phone rep seemed to think since we were "going to Northern Europe" that we would also not have fireworks. But night 5 should put us still in the Atlantic just outside of Lisbon...so, who knows? :confused3

On a separate thought, what do the call the Pirate party in Europe? It is "Pirates IN the Caribbean" normally...but obviously we will not be "IN" the Caribbean.

Thanks for the info - although we are traveling very light - so we will not be "dressing" for pirate night or formal night. I cannot remember what they called the Pirate night in Europe - others that have a better memory than me might be able to help you with this.

Hi Everyone,
Hope that nobody has got too caught up in the ash? Lets hope that things will start moving now!

I was just wondering, will we have a deadline date for the fish extender? The reason I ask is I need to order something to put in the gifts and I want to make sure I get enough!

Thanks,Yensid, for posting that info-it makes it seem very real! Need to get organised and find myself a lovely dress for formal night.

A question for all you experienced female cruisers-do people wear heels for dinner or is this looked upon as silly?! I have a pair of quite high heels that are perfectly comfortable on dry land but don't want to a)break my neck or b) look stupid!

Enjoy the rest of your week everyone, lets keep our fingers crossed for room allocations soon!

Susan

I have seen women in heels and flats - (you will not catch me in heels:lmao:) - unless the seas are rough, you will not have any problems walking in heels - most of the time you will not even remember you are on a ship as far as motion is concerned.

No problem, I know we were confused so I figured a call to DCL was in order. Do I have a problem if Disney Cruise Line phone number programmed into my phone?

As for Fish Extenders, we have not set a deadline at this point. I usually plan an extra few items "just in case" so I am fine with people being added even on the day of departure. Not sure how everyone feels, but we can work it any way we want. I will plan on a place we briefly meet and I will have an excel spreadsheet for everyone so we can make updates. Also, I can leave copies in my FE for anyone that can't meet.

How does everyone feel about that?

I think this is a great idea - then anyone who gets an upgrade at the port can just get in touch with you with their new info, and the rest of us will be able to find them!

Oh dear
I'm feeling really guilty now. I haven't given the Fish Extender thing another thought. I'm going to have to buy one. I've seen some great ones on Ebay US but there is no such thing on eBay UK. Any ideas anyone where I can get one in the UK?

Not too worried about gifts, but then again...are we buying just for the kids in the party or adults too?

Oh my head hurts, I need a holiday...Oh yes I have a cruise in 45 days time:cool1:

kT8. It looks like we're not getting any upgrades then:sad1:

But hey 7 nights with Mickey and co, good company, loads of alcohol (did I say that?), sun sea and ? I'm going to have a ball:woohoo:

Some folks have made their own fish extenders - I think Alex (first timers) gave a pretty good description of them, and I think there is info somewhere on these boards that goes into details.

Welcome aboard. Outside every cabin door is a metal fish which is used by DCL to put messages and notes. Awhile back, one of the diser's (someone who is on the disboard) bought sail-a-way gifts for all the disers on that cruise. The gift was about 8-9" wide and 18-24" long made of cloth and had three pockets with Mickey Mouse on each pocket. She bought them at a clearence store and they had a string on top to hang them. Everyone hung them on the fish outside the cabin door, so they are fish extenders (FE) because they make the fish longer with more pockets. Disers bring little home made items, candy, door magnet they make, etc. and put them in the FE during the cruise usually putting thier name on the items so you know who they are from. People now make thier own FEs out of felt, cloth, plastic, with pictures glued on, embriodery, cross stitch ir whatever they can do. The only real requirement is that it can be hung from the fish and has pockets. The kids (and most big kids) love to come to thier cabin and find things in thier FE. It's just for fun. Alex

Great info Alex!

Anyone plan on working out on the ship, elliptical 60 min/day? I can not go that long without getting exercise!

We (Scott H) and I run/walk laps around deck 4 every morning! I would like to get to the gym more than we do, will try harder on this cruise!

Have a great week all!

One more week of grad school... until the fall.

Truth be told, I pop in during the week sometimes to visit, but usually refrain from posting. Vacation planning is my sweet reward at the end of the semester.

Congrats on all of the upgrades!

Scott, the kids and I are so looking forward to this vacation.

Hey Guys!

Please don't think bad of me :(

I just found out that I will have to be out of town for work for a couple of weeks right before the cruise....so....I guess I need to be taken off the FE list :( I know my limits, and getting everything together, plus getting FEs done that I would be proud of while being gone alot right before the cruise, is past those limits. In addition, we have decided to limit ourselves to only one carry-on each so I think we are going to be pretty cramped for space.

I hope you can all understand. I figured it would be better to bow out now than later when everyone has gotten further along with their gifts.

MMM

you dont have to have a fe to be part of the group. dont let that stop you joining in and meeting us all. We are there to enjoy the cruise and each others company and its that that is important:thumbsup2

Hey DD

A holiday is all about not being under pressure, so no worries. I personally am not 'making' anything, just got a few bits for the children. I haven't even got round to making my FE yet!!!

I hope we will all meet up though, it would be good to puts face to the names.

Getting nearer now, had a note from Disney this morning, saying 'Welcome Back'.

I just may get the cases out this weekend ;)

Thanks, guys! I've my packing list!! It's not the suitcases but it's close :)

Hi Everyone,

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one with a packing list. I've also started packing a few things in my carry-on.

I can't believe it's almost May. The trip is coming up quickly!

I can't remember if we originally signed up on this thread or not, or what the plans are, because I've been spending my time on the June 12th thread.

Anyway, Jamie and I got assigned our stateroom for this cruise and we are in 6067 and actually, we are in the same stateroom b2b for both cruises.

We won't arrive on the June 5th until June 7th though. Jamie graduates from high school the evening of June 4th, so we can't get to Barcelona on time.

We are flying to London on the 5th, then connecting to Gibraltar and will be spending Sunday evening at "The Rock" hotel in Gibraltar and will be taking pictures of the Magic arriving Monday morning. If you are on deck 10 I'll try to use my zoom and get some pictures of the ship as she comes in!

Hopefully, I can get some great pictures of the ship.

So, I won't be able to deliver my FE gifts until after Monday the 7th!

Okay, I'm caught up, scanned over the 20 pages of posts and sent my required PM's!

So I think we are good to go.

We were originally booked for 6067 for this cruise and doing b2b and then when DCL came out with the great price for the cat. 12, I changed to the cat. 12 gty and lost my 6067.

Then, when DCL assigned my GTY, low and behold they assigned me to a cat 11, stateroom 6067!

So, we are back to the original stateroom, just alot less money!

Can't wait to see everyone and sorry we will miss the onboard sailaway party, but my daughter for some reason doesn't want to miss her high school graduation.........

Hi Linda,
It will be great to see you again, looks like this is starting to become a mini reunion!!
We received our docs today. Looks like it is official!!
Ken

:goodvibesGot my luggage tags this morning, a nice way to start the day.

The kids need a whole new summer wardrobe:eek: So my weekend will be spent doing that. I need to make a list however so I don't over pack!

I have a question from my DD4, she would like to know if Ariel is on the boat? I have seen a picture of her in one of the shows (Dreams maybe?) Can anyone confirm if she is in this? Ariel is her absolute favourite princess and though I know she's not around for meets etc, would be great if she's in a show!

Also, i've heard that the toiletries in the showers are really nice-are they good enough so I don't need to bring my own shampoo??? Trying to travel light!

Susan:)

Morning :goodvibes

Hope my lables are there when I get in - starting to feel like it is really going to happen now - just need to try and upgrade to a window at the port and all will be well with the world!!!

Made my FE last night and although I need to sort some images to put on the pockets, I must admit I was pretty pleased with myself. Took a couple of hours and was easier than I thought!

Hi to the new guys, seems like a lot of people have a lot of experience crusing Disney, so no doubt we will be picking your brains and also regards DVC, which we nearly joined last cruise (wish we did now!).

Seaulater, we joined a cruise once a few days after is sailed and to be honest, we felt really special!, I hope your daughter has a great day, what a lot to look forward to!

Quashquai - I didn't notice your earlier question, dd is 5yrs 9 months and will probably idolise your dd, she has that 'hero worship' thing going on with older girls, it would be good if they get on. dd loves the kids clubs on cruises, so I am hoping she will like this one, she has some memories of before, but was a lot younger then.

Susan - the toiletries were nice when we last were on - I kept some, which I found recently and dd used up, I am using the lids for the ends of my FE! (Mickey Ears), although the shampoo was a bit weak for me. Hopefully others will have more experience, I see Tescos are doing loads of great 'travel size' products - I have gone a bit mad!

Lynn, I see you are 'Walker of Malumutes', can I ask, do you have any? My OH is deperate for one, but I am not sure they are the dog for us - saw a beautiful Huskymute puppy the other day....oh dear, we have two dogs already!

For those in the US, the weather in the UK has been great the last couple of days, almost summery - which hopefully bodes well for the rest of Europe, as it is always several degrees warmer in the Med. :cool1: We normally go away over my birthday (mid June) and last year I got sun burnt!

Not long now....

Kate

Kate, did you do the no-sew? What material did you use? Went to my local Dunelm and the felt there was rubbish so I think i'm going to have to use a heavier material.

Susan:)

Hi

I found it really difficult to get the stuff that you can in the states, but we do have a large Hobby Craft, even so, no 'Disney' products.

I used the dimensions of the no sew, but have an old machine (I mean really old, OH mother was given it for her 21st birthday, although it is electric).

I used felt for mine, got two metres and folded it longways and machined up the one side, then turned it inside out, so join didn't show. It measures around 9" wide and the double thickness gives it strength. You could possibly use iron on hemming to do it and then iron the length so the join is at the back. I then machined over the top and bottom, cutting off the excess, so it is about 39" inches long, there is space at the top to put a dowel in for hanging and also at the bottom, if I need to weight it.

I got three pieces of coloured felt for the pockets they were 6" long and a bit wider. (I bought them in a bag of mixed colours and machined these on to the front, postioning them 1" in from the edge, I stitched directly onto the front, didn't hem it. Once I had stitched the sides, they were obviously really bagge, so, I folded them over on themselves, with a pleat at the side (it also covered my stitching), and machined along the bottom edge, to form the pocket.

I did three of these, spaced 2" apart, one red, one orange, one pink. The idea is to put a Mickey on the top one - or just two white buttons, Simba or Tigger silhouette in the middle and a red/white Minnie bow on the bottom one.

However, I am having problems making the silhouettes, I may just try and find iron ons for them, but to source these in the UK is impossible, but my sister is in WDW, so I am going to ask her to look out for some. In the meantime, I stuck a character sticker from my dd sticker book on each one and they look really good, but not very robust. So having a think of what to do now. I got some little sticky letters and put our names on them at jaunty angles.

I thought it would take ages, but it was only a couple of hours and really I am not at all creative!!

I will try and post a photo when it is finished, but the felt worked out really well. Hope this helps.

Kate
