June 4 2005 West Coast Cruisers

Hi, I'm brand new to the boards - well I've been reading a lurking for just a little bit, but knowing that our ship is on it's way to the west coast has brought me out of the woodwork. Well that and we finally worked out my DH passport issues. It's me DH, DS 9, DD 2 on the curise and we'll be staying two days prior to sailing at the Hyatt Long Beach.

Please explain what dis meets and t-shirts etc, are? Do members of the discussion boards organize things? I've been thinking about printing magnets for our door, and I'm so disappointed that Shirley doesn't have a west coast vendor, but I'm trying to put together my own baskets - any ideas would be great. :earsboy:

We have been on several DCL cruises and in the past the DIS people have always had matching door signs that one person created for everyone and over Christmas they had a connection for tshirts and all had gorgeous lime green tshirts. They met after embarkation and had various times that they would meet up. They also played room tag which I am not quite sure how it works. I did not get involved before our cruise because I had no idea of how much fun they would have together. We saw them everywhere laughing and having a great time together. They hung out on excursions, sat together at bingo, shows, had photos made together, visited each other at home...Now all of them rebooked together and are all on the repo cruise gone right now.

It sounds like several of us have children about the same ages It also is fun for them to meet some other friends.

So far I can count 11 families from here and previous thread.Hope that answers your questions with the little knowledge I have of it.

We could also do DIS survivor buffs which we could use to recognize everyone. Tshirts atleast with our messy eaters can only be worn once.

What are survivor buffs?

I did read a thread about the tag. If I understood it correctly, I think what happened is someone made a door magnet and then everyone posted their stateroom numbers. Everyone took the list of stateroom numbers and then the door tag was placed on a door. Each person would then tag the next person by placing on another door - and hopefully not getting caught.

I'm happy to start this one and create a door magnet. Can everyone post their stateroom door so we can start the list.

We're in 8100.

OK you aren't a survivor fan ? They are bandanas that each team wears in any fashion they choose (around the wrist, neck, as a hat, tied to a bag, as a belt, I know one cruise they had buttons made.

We are in 8564 and my mom is in 7570.
WRH3MD is in 8002.
Those are the only room numbers we know.
8100 looks awesome. Have you stayed in there before?

Nope, not a survivor fan - I've never seen the show.

This is our first cruise on the Disney Cruise line so we've never stayed in any staterooms. My DS 9 is already a bit disappointed because our room has the solid metal veranda rail instead of plexiglass. I'm sure he'll forget ALL about that once he's on board and having fun! :rotfl:

I have seen those balconies from above and they are HUGE. You will love it. Not of course to mention the extra space in the cabin. :cheer2:
I am so excited for you. DCL is awesome. Everything first class. Shows will blow you away. When we board the first thing you need to do is book Palo reservations in the lounge. We found out over Christmas that brunch is great and not to be missed. We were just talking about what day to shoot for. The last cruise we booked it for the 2nd day and that ended up to be our character breakfast assignment. Do you live out west?

MousseauMob, I forgot to tell you I also have a DS8 (almost 9) DS5, and DD2

Great, our kids are together in age. My DS plays with the twin boys next door and they are 5 also - he plays with all ages and gender. So, he'll be happy with both the 8 (almost 9) year old and/or the 5 year old.

We're very excited and I'm a big planner so we've already made our reservations for brunch, tea, shore excursions and spa on the website. I love this feature, we won't have anything to do once we board but have FUN! :)

We are out west. We're in Utah and we'll be driving down. Are you out west? I was wondering if these cruises would be made up of mostly west coasters or if it was going to be a mix.

No we live in Orlando and still can't get enough. It is so nice to just have a different itinerary so we immediately wanted to do west coast. Normally it is so easy from here-- a 40 min drive and we are on vacation. This is a little harder.

If you go to the live repo pictures go to posting #214 and the deck below where the people are standing withall the glass you will see really wide balconies. Thats your room.

I did not know you could do Palo's ahead. When did they start that? How do I do that? Is it the same number that i used to book shore excursions?

I'm going to start a friendly :) game of stateroom door tag once we board the ship! Please post your stateroom number to this thread and be sure and bring a list with you so you can Tag the next dis member after you've been tagged! :dancer:

We go to Utah often to go skiing. We love staying at Snowbird but skiing Alta

They just started it, May 4th or 5th. You go to the disney cruise website and click My Disney Cruise (upper right link) from there you need to use the button to Retrieve Reservation. You'll be asked for your confirmation number and birthdate. This is typically the birthdate of the primary person on the reservation. I think you also have to be a member of the website but that's a simple registration much like what you did to have access to these boards. From there you'll see all your reservation information and you can click My Cruise Plans to book reservations. Hope this helps! :teeth:

Thanks for the info on the veranda, I'm going to go try and see them now.

OK I went to book Palos but they only had dinner and high tea. Did they have brunch and now it is full or is that not being offered anymore, or is it still first come first serve once on board?

Mickeyfan66 & I are in room 7125-So should we make a door magnet for our stateroom door???

Gosh, I don't know. When I did it they had two brunch listings. I have read that they have had some problems and don't have everything available on the website. So, maybe they've closed it for online reservations. I hoped they're not booked so you can get a reservation. You could call you TA or Disney. :confused3

I don't think so, I was planning on just making the 1 (well I'll probably bring a spare in case one gets lost) and then having it make the rounds. So whenever it's found a door it would move to the next. But, I don't know maybe it would be a good idea to have a couple making the rounds. I'm new at this, what do you think?

Thanks for the info about Palos. Hopefully they withhold some reservations like the dw restaurants do for bozos like me that had no clue. What night did you all get for dinner? It is so hard to decide because you don't want to miss the themed nights. Someone commented that the boat was full however I was just talking to one of the reservationist about this whole Palos thing and she said a lot of cabins had recently come available. Why I don't know. Anyway I hope it stays like that. More room in the Mickey pool.

We went down to MGM last night for a couple of hours. Tonight we are meandering over to Epcot--kids want to ride Soaring again. Parks seem empty.

We aren't doing dinner. I couldn't figure out the rotation thing with the theme nights and we're not sure how well DD 2 will do in the Nursery, so we decided to just do brunch on Friday at 10:30am. I have a reservation for tea on Sunday at 3:00 for myself alone, so if anyone what's to join me, I'll be the one with my nose buried in a book. DH doesn't do tea, my DS would - he loves doing afternoon tea, but no kids allowed. ;)

I was clueless about the website ressies also! I just happened to stumble upon a thread the day after it went live.

I wonder why the cabins became available? If rooms are freeing up, the ressie's might free up - you might want to check periodically. Although I guess the cabins freeing up maybe the TA's releasing reserved rooms. Gee, I wonder if I can upgrade now? :teeth:

Are you trying to move to a different room still 1br or to a 2 br or Royal Suite I know those rarely cancel being that there are only 2 each. Did you find the post that showed your balcony? I don't know how the ride is in the back though. I know I don't like the slosh in the front myself.
