June 27, 2013 - Magic in the Med (Venice)

In 2010 we also had problems with getting a taxi, waited at least 90 minutes(probably closer to 2 hours)... We had late dining so walked off after we finished breakfast, so probably around 9. Personally after experiencing the problem and knowing that you have 4 people with luggage, I"d find another private company The problem is that with 4 people and luggage you'll be required to take a van taxi (like us) and they aren't as numerous as the regular ones. Even with walking off as soon as you can, you still might have issues.

That's what I was afraid of...:worried:

We usually get breakfast at the deck 9 buffet on our last morning rather than visit the dining rooms, but I don't want to risk things.

I'll check with our DU TA to see if she has any suggestions for private transfers. My DH insisted we leave the day we disembark and since I was low on vacation time at work it seemed best but now I am wishing we booked airfare to stay overnight.

We have Barcelona airport transfers booked for our transfers..... Maybe book DCL transfers to the airport......

Nicole what time were you waiting for the taxi after disembarking?

I just canceled our private transfers from the ship to the airport (the company made some changes that did not sit well with me) and now I am trying to decide if we should go with taxis or not. If it is just a matter of getting off the ship earlier than most others to make sure we get a taxi fast then I would stick with a taxi...but if we are walking off with our luggage as early as possible and still have to wait an hour for a taxi then I am going to look for another transport option.

We have an 11:55 am flight to make and I have heard the drive is about 30 minutes to the airport...and yes have trip insurance in case DCL gets delayed so much that we miss our flight..
But I am thinking that if we aim to be among the first people off the ship we should be ok.

I honestly couldn't tell you what time it was, but it was not early as we had no reason to rush and I have teenagers! :rotfl:

Checking on that now:thumbsup2

My DS (19) would sleep all day and game all night if he could get away with it:rolleyes1

And I have to check now to make sure my DD15 is not on her laptop late at night too.

I am assuming the first sea day they will be sleeping in pretty late...anyone told their stateroom host to skip their cabin so their teens could sleep in one morning:confused3
Wondering if this would just make things easier for everyone at least on the first sea day...

We are less than 3 months to our cruise date now...have I missed talk about fish extenders:confused3

Anyone have the most recent number participating?
I want to do this but I also don't want to spend a lot of time delivering FE gifts either. The number of participants on previous cruises went pretty high:faint:

I don't know that anyone officially said they would coordinate this.
If no one else wants to do it, I'll do it, but I'll need everyone's cooperation by making sure to sign up and provide their cabin number and such.

We have a big group on the June 15th cruise but with a longer cruise, you have more time to deliver :) We usually take a few with us whenever we're going somewhere - like to dinner, to get a drink, to the movies, etc., or maybe while the laundry is washing, we'll take some. I like delivering throughout the week because it's fun to still find stuff in your FE later in the week - a nice surprise!

I'll check the spreadsheet to see how many folks have signed up already and then post a link again here - it's in the very first post of this thread, too.

Checking on that now:thumbsup2

This is a funny question! We totally have this problem, I always feel so bad for our stateroom host! We always get 2 connecting rooms, one is the "cave" where the big kids are and I would guess on sea days, it usually doesn't get cleaned at least half the time! I always tell our stateroom host that we don't mind as long as our half is clean. :)

Ok, I just checked and there are only 15 cabins signed up for Fish Extenders but several undecided's. There are 43 DISers who have added themselves to the roll call.

Use this form to add yourself to the Roll Call if you haven't already: Roll Call Form.

Check the spreadhseet here to see if you signed up for Fish Extenders or not, and if you're undecided, you can change to a Yes or No here as well.

Thank you for checking into it! Maybe more people will join as it is such a small number. :) Shall we make May 1st our cutoff date or is that too late for everyone?

Funny you call it a cave - that's what we call our teenagers's rooms - their caves. But since we share one room, I do want our room cleaned every day. Nathan doesn't want to sleep so late that he can't get to sleep at night, so we always have him tell us what time he wants to be up by on the days we don't have to get up early for an excursion. Then for Zachary, we tell him he has to be up by a specific time - but on the cruise, he usually bases it on what the next day's activities are in the youth program - he'll check the Navigator the night before and then tell me when he wants to be up by.

As for me, I am an early riser on cruises because I don't want to miss anything! Like a sunrise - or I'm so excited to see where we are when we are going into a new port. Now on a sea day, I'm more likely to sleep in. DH will sleep in on vacation but at home he is the super-early riser.

You can always leave a note on your door for your stateroom host, or if they are like the ones we often had, they are in the hallway pretty early so I'll go out for breakfast and just let him know if the guys are sleeping for a bit. I do think they start later on rooms on sea days because they know people are going to be sleeping.

I like to have our room cleaned before lunch at least because I like to enjoy the cabin during the day and don't feel like I can as much when the upper berth is still down and the couch is someone's bed :)

Since you seem to have volunteered yourself for the job, you may as well be selfish! :rotfl2:

Thanks so much !
Put me as a yes:thumbsup2
Have to have a cutoff point somewhere.
And we can always form a second group of latecomers of needed.

My husband Darren is usually up early regardless of where we are or when he went to sleep. Drives him crazy on vacation as he can't sleep in even if he wanted to.
We have to get our teens up early several days in a row so with the first sea day as their first chance to sleep in for many days I figured I would just leave them alone...plus they can sleep in somewhat the next day as well as we don't pull into Venice until the afternoon...
But for the most part they have to get up early almost every day -which they do for school anyway, but I know that first sea day will be precious for the chance to catch up on sleep...

We usually try to be out of the cabin so that the stateroom host can keep to their schedule, but the logistics on this cruise are much different from our past cruises and my teens are easier to deal with when they have their beauty sleep ;)

We have a 10:30 flight out of Barcelona that was booked by DCL. I am VERY nervous about our transfer to the airport. We are taking the Disney bus but still. 10:30 seems really tight. When we cruise out of Port Canaveral they never schedule anything before 12:30.

The airport is a lot closer in BCN than from port Canaveral to Orlando :)
Be sure to fill out any forms the night before that you might need for the airport and you will probably want to take your luggage off yourself. But DCL will tell you what to do. They wouldn't book it that early if they didn't think you could get there in time.

The thing about flying from BCN back to the US is that most of the flights are before noon.

Hey all. Finally took the time to add myself to the roll call and the excursion sheet. Sadly I don't think we will be participating in the fish extender group. We know our luggage amount is very limited and need to make some room for all the souvenirs we plan on buying :rotfl2: Anyways, only 84 more days I think until sailing! :cheer2:

But yes you have the advantage that DCL is booking this for you so I would relax and follow their instructions like Cindy says above and not worry much:thumbsup2
