June 27, 2013 - Magic in the Med (Venice)

That's so awesome you set that up, thanks! Can't wait to book my excursions Friday and add my name to the list. :)

Good luck getting the excursions you're wanting! It makes it seem so much more real now that nearly everyone will have had a chance to book their excursions.

And I don't get credit for setting up the spreadsheet - DISer PureData is a whiz at these things and he set one up for the June 15thers and said I could borrow it for us. It's amazing how much easier things are to keep track of now compared to when we first joined DIS and planned our first cruise - I've been a DISer for nearly 10 years - wow! And it's been over 8 years since our first cruise - again, wow - time sure goes fast! I am just as excited now as I was way back when...

I can't wait until I can book my excursions, but I can't until April 13th. Hope there is still some room for us.

Thank you for all the work you have done. It really helps us newbies. I will be able to add my family to the Secret Iten. in Venice since we booked that one on our own.

Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Janet

I added my husband Dennis and me to the 2 Venice excursions that we're doing, but don't seem to be able to add a column for my Segway in Rome tour nor my Turkish Schooner cruise on our Malta day from my iPad.

If you have it open from the DIS app, tap the arrow at the bottom of the screen to open in safari. If you have it open in Safari, then tap where it says Go To Spreadsheet View and open in desktop view rather than Mobile. It's a little finicky on iPad when scrolling to the right. I will check in the morning and add the excursions if you haven't already and then you should be able to enter your info.

I have an 8 year old daughter (Jessie) who will be on the cruise too!

Yeah! My daughter was born profoundly deaf and uses American Sign Language. She has always been around hearing children and enjoys teaching her friends to sign.

We've sailed with DISers who are deaf and have had an interpreter for the shows and such on the cruise. Will you all have DCL provide an interpreter for your DD?

Our sons' high school offers ASL as a "foreign language" credit and they do a two year program - it's extremely popular.

I hope they get a chance to meet. Can your daughter lip read? I know Jessie would love to try to learn sign language. We often watch the sign language teams at WDW and on the cruise, they really are amazing. :)

Lisa doesn't lip read quite yet. That is our goal for the next few years. We haven't utilized the onboard interpreters yet but we had an amazing experience on the Magic a year ago. When Lisa was standing in line to see the princesses, one of the managers pulled an Oceaneer Club counselor who knew ASL out of the club and had her stand on the 3rd deck above and facing the princesses. When Lisa went through the line, the counselor signed down to the princesses, who in turn signed to Lisa ("You are beautiful." "I like your dress." "My name is Cinderella. What is your name?") She thought it was so cool that the princesses knew how to sign. That single experience ultimately sold me on DCL forever. They always make sure that there is at least one counselor in the Oceaneer Club who can communicate with Lisa.

I have "check with DCL regarding an interpreter" on my list of things to do this week. It's so much easier to have someone near the stage doing interpreting vs. having her look at me. I am working on my fluency. Lisa has an interpreter with her all day at school. I think she would love it if an interpreter signed the shows to her :)

What a wonderful thing to do!

That is awesome! Hopefully they will have someone who can translate for them and they can play and have fun together!

While we aren't going to Rome on this itinerary, we are using Rome in Limo on the previous one so I thought I'd share our plans. We bought our tickets for the Forum in Rome today.

Coliseum/Forum/palatine tickets - tickets are 13,50 Euro each.

We've narrowed our Rome list down to:

Basilica San Clemente
The Forum
Palatine Hill
Mamertine Prison
Circus Maximus
Baths of Caracalla
Victor Emmanuel Monument (to take the lift to see Rome from up high)

We've emailed with Jany at Rome in Limo so our driver will have our short list for figuring out the best way to see what we want to see and still get us back to the port early.

We were guestimating allowing 90 minutes for transportation from the port to the city - does that sound about right?

Getting very excited - trying to do something cruise-plan-wise every day.

Even if there isn't anyone to translate, Lisa is a very "go with the flow" kind of girl and does very well with reading body language and gestures. Many of her friends are not proficient signers but they still get along great. :)

If this were Facebook, I would push the "Like" button! :)

For those of you not on Facebook if you are booking excursions on Friday and you need times for them let me know.

dumb moment right here, im booking on friday, why would i need times for them??:scratchin

If you want more than 1 per city and you have the times you can book it faster than wasting time figuring out when you can do what.

There are lots of Palo's times available -brunch & dinner.

Working on plans for Naples today post-Pompeii Half Day excursion. We get back to the ship around 1:30 and all aboard is 5:30 so there's time to dash into the city for some traditional neapolitan pizza. According to TripAdvisor, Pizzeria da Gaetano is the #3 rated restaurant in Naples (and the #1 pizza place).

I was hoping to also get to Sfogliatella Mary's to try some sfogliatella but it appears to be closed on Mondays.

I was talking to the sign language people on the last cruise I was on with them. There is a family who generally goes on the inaugural cruises and that is why they end up on these particular voyages. They told me at the time that they were booked for the June 15 and 29 cruises. So unless that changes, they should be on board.

Booking tonight and still unsure about what to do in Malta and Croatia. Any ideas? Thinking about doing the beach excursion in Croatia. :scratchin
