June 27 2010 5 Night Bahamas - Double Dip

Cruising 5 night on June 27. DD-13, DD-11, DS-18 months. Any helpful tips?

Hi, I have a DD that will turn 13 on the Friday (July 1) of the cruise. She just learned of the cruise yesterday at her birthday party. Jordak on these boards made me an awesome magnet of a Mickey birthday cake and I gave it to her as a present. It was a hit! All of the adults were amazed by it too.

This will be DD's 6th Disney cruise, so she is an expert. She loves the kids clubs and activities, maybe we can meet up in the port or on board and let them start chatting. We always get to the port early (because we are so excited ), have lunch and hit the pool area. We usually start looking for kids around the same age as ours (DD has a younger sister that is 6) so they can start chatting while waiting to board. It helps pass the time and then it is fun to look for their new friend at the clubs and by the pool. If not, I am sure they will find each other at some point on the ship. Don't forget that they offer kids activities for the 11 - 13 year olds on the private island. My kids loved that part too!

I usually don't see my kids much - as they like to spend a lot of time at the clubs. We also take them to the pool some. I do suggest going to dinner as a family and seeing the shows together. The shows are great and dinner is a nice family experience. Make sure to take an autograph book too, as they like to visit the characters and get autographs - or my older one just likes to take a photograph with them. she has a ton of autographs already, but she likes to try to take a picture with the characters in their various attire for the cruise.

My other tip is that I take a white erase board for inside my room. We write down the various excursions, reservations (spa, Palo) and other "don't want to miss" activities on there after reveiwing our navagator each night. Helps the kids plan for what they are going to do the next day. I also take a note pad and write the time/place of some of the activities on there for my lanyard/pocket, so I can keep track of what's where. :thumbsup2

We first cruised when our youngest was around 18 months. Definitely a different experience with a young one that can't go to the kids clubs, but still great. We didnt use the nursery, but have heard it was very good. We just hung out around the ship with her and took her to visit the characters and such. Her and Stitch became great friends on that cruise!

Have a great time!

I have a DD who is 12 and always loves to make new friends. Maybe the girls can meet at the port? We will be there early as I am going to look into any upgrades that may be available (never tried it before but thought I would check).

Yes, we will be at the port early too! We usually look for new friends to meet at the port. I just PM you her email address. We will be staying at Residence Inn the night before, so that may be an opportunity too.

I have tried to upgrade at the port. unfortunately didn't work for me. Once they were no upgrades available and another time only for parties of 3 and we had 4! You check in and then ask if they have any upgrades available. If so, they will refer you down to the end of the desk to the supervisor's desk for details and to see if it works. the key is that you must check-in first.

We have eight in our party going - 4 kids - DD13, nephew 13 and twin nephews 10. The boys were just told yesterday of the trip. First time, they are so excited. Can't believe it's almost here!!!:yay:

^^^ Hi CarlonsofVeroBeach! Here's the most updated version of the FE list. I hope Stampinggoddes checks this thread soon to provide us with her cabin number. :goodvibes

^^^ Welcome to the Disboards! You'll have a great time on the Wonder! We cruised with our infant son when he was only 3 months old. You'll have a lot of fun with the 18 mo. old on board. If you need diapering supplies, be sure to check the DCL 'babies travel light' program.

Btw, I highly recommend Flounders Reef for him when you need a little R&R of your own (like going to the Vista Spa or a meal at Palo). :thumbsup2

Thanks, I am not sure what to expect with the baby and it keeps me awake at night. He is so active and there is so much I need to take. I looked into "babies travel light' and I'm definitely going to use them - especially for the baby food since I don't feel like carrying that around. I'm just scared that the items won't make it to my cabin.

I was able to reserve some time at the nursery but it's hard to figure out when is a good time. I thought of sending him for a little while as we get ready for dinner. I also have some time while we go to brunch at Palo. Looking forward to that experience. DH just wants to eat shrimp and crabs at least once while on the cruise :)

BTW, I don't have enough posts to send PM so here's my recommendation:
It's my favorite:thumbsup2 They have a few locations. I can't post links yet either so you can google them and check out the menus on their website.

Do you still have our info?

^^^ Oops!!! I'm sorry mommymills!:guilty: I was posting while my kids were making quite a ruckous. If it's any consolation, you weren't the only ones I accidentally left out. I'll repost with the correct updated list.

Thanks for posting the link Marshmellow86. maybe now i'll have enough posts.

anyone just planning a beach day on Nassau? I think Cabbage beach was mentioned in another thread as a free beach and only $20 per cab ride.

Are you supposed to give gifts to kids club counselors. If so anyone have any suggestions? Getting excited. far behind in all of the packing and shopping. procrastination as always. anyone staying at the radisson the night before?:hourglasspixiedust:

Thanks for the tips. We hope to arrive early at the port as well. We're driving up on Saturday and staying at Country Inn Suites. Hoping that the shuttle will get us there early. DD's excited about making new friends. It would be great if they get an early start at the port.

Some people have said the counselors love to get candy. In the past I used to give phone cards but I think now that cell phones are so prevalent that they don't need them anymore. Is there a store near the port that the cast members use when they dock that they could use a gift card to?

I did the phone call from Mickey this morning for my dd. She was SO excited!

I had to do it today because w/ school getting out I wasn't sure if she'd be at camp or gramma's next week.

She loved it. If you haven't done it yet, I recommend it for the kids. She is just really happy that Mickey and his friends are waiting to sail w/ her soon!

Now if I could set one up for my husband so he'll be excited we'll be all set!

If you set it up it has to be to a different phone number(cell) than the one dialed the first time, also use a another email address. It would not let me call the same number twice, one for each of the kids. My son flipped out a couple weeks ago he was so excited.
