Hi, I have a DD that will turn 13 on the Friday (July 1) of the cruise. She just learned of the cruise yesterday at her birthday party. Jordak on these boards made me an awesome magnet of a Mickey birthday cake and I gave it to her as a present. It was a hit! All of the adults were amazed by it too.
This will be DD's 6th
Disney cruise, so she is an expert. She loves the kids clubs and activities, maybe we can meet up in the port or on board and let them start chatting. We always get to the port early (because we are so excited

), have lunch and hit the pool area. We usually start looking for kids around the same age as ours (DD has a younger sister that is 6) so they can start chatting while waiting to board. It helps pass the time and then it is fun to look for their new friend at the clubs and by the pool. If not, I am sure they will find each other at some point on the ship. Don't forget that they offer kids activities for the 11 - 13 year olds on the private island. My kids loved that part too!
I usually don't see my kids much - as they like to spend a lot of time at the clubs. We also take them to the pool some. I do suggest going to dinner as a family and seeing the shows together. The shows are great and dinner is a nice family experience. Make sure to take an autograph book too, as they like to visit the characters and get autographs - or my older one just likes to take a photograph with them. she has a ton of autographs already, but she likes to try to take a picture with the characters in their various attire for the cruise.
My other tip is that I take a white erase board for inside my room. We write down the various excursions, reservations (spa, Palo) and other "don't want to miss" activities on there after reveiwing our navagator each night. Helps the kids plan for what they are going to do the next day. I also take a note pad and write the time/place of some of the activities on there for my lanyard/pocket, so I can keep track of what's where.
We first cruised when our youngest was around 18 months. Definitely a different experience with a young one that can't go to the kids clubs, but still great. We didnt use the nursery, but have heard it was very good. We just hung out around the ship with her and took her to visit the characters and such. Her and Stitch became great friends on that cruise!
Have a great time!
