that does have a striking resemblance to those two butt-inskies. Like I tell my kids: if you ignore them, they'll go away.

Help! My DH is now having second thoughts on going to the Med because of our young DS.

We just returned from a week at Atlantis in the Bahamas, and my DS who is going to be 3 in September, gave us such a hard time. We brought him to Cali last year which was a 6 hr flight and we even drove to San Francisco and we had no problems. I guess the terrible two's has kicked in. Our flight to the bahamas was only 45 minutes but it was the longest 45 minutes of my life. So my DH says there is no way we will be able to do a 10-12 hours flight to Barcelona. Is there any of you that have very young children having fears of this? Normally, my DS is very well behaved so this was a shocker for us. Help!!! I told my DH that we still have a year. My DS will be almost 4 by the time we leave for the Med (alot can change by then) :worried: .

Here is a butt-inski advice:

11 months is a LONG time in the 3-4 yo world...They become more human..er..normal..er...you know what I mean. Less childlike-toddler and more preschooler. Their ability to handle greater amounts of stimuli is much better as a 4yo. I wouldn't cancel yet..you still have PLENTY of time to assess his development.
(HA! There Cherize! Didn't know I was edumacated!!)

you take your kids out of school every year? DS would flip. Way too much to make up - and last Oct he wasn't allowed to make up tests he missed.
Just so you know we have February school vacation week up in the North East. However we do leave early & yes take them all out of school(I know we are terrible parents) :furious: I find that the week prior to any vacation is a wind down week I give the teachers plenty of notice & my older childun complete all necessary work before vacation! Both of my older ones were on the honor role all year :thumbsup2
However as my son will start High school in 2008 I will have to see how JV or V Hockey's schedule is an adjust vacations accordingly Hockey first you know! ;)

My neighbors have done RCCL a few times and have reported that the lines for the water rides just keep getting longer and/or the reservations are harder to get. But, seeing as how you have the Royal, Bow-at-his-Feet Suite, I'm sure you won't have a problem. (The Roy, the Walt, must be good to be you :rotfl2: )
Dont know never been, still have to see what DCL is offering in 2008 and as I travel in a party of 6 :grouphug: I find that suites are just as economical & have more room than 2 adjoining rooms! And unlike others on this thread I rarely fly first class Cheri! :rotfl2:

Do not despair! :goodvibes When I went to WDW & DCL last Febuary my DD's were 19 months & 4 1/2 had a 3PM flight to MCO 3 Hours it was the horrors! :furious: Has a 2PM flight back to Beantown they
both were great & then fell asleep. :thumbsup2

Tell Hubby to tough it out the flight is only a small fraction of the vacation & very rarely does anyone like being on a plane for 12 hours! :3dglasses Besides you can always use the old stand by flight medication (Vodka & Juice in a sippy cup) Boom Boom out like a light! :rolleyes1

On long plane trips with kids...

Barcelona will be the longest flight we've taken the kids on since my daughter was 1 years old - and she'll be 13 next year. But we do long car rides, and I have some suggestions

1. Video ipod filled with his favorite shows.
2. Benedryl. Dramamine. Any medication your child can use that has drowsiness as side effect.

It was very important with my kids that if they had any congestion, to give them a decongestant, preferably with a drowsiness as a side benefit. Those little ears get ear pain otherwise- and nobody's happy. Having experienced it as a kid flying myself, I tend to get very unhappy if the kids experience ear pain-it flashes me back to two hours of circling NYC on the flight from hell.

Now that my kids are older (13 and 10) they get playing cards, paperbacks and madlibs, and addition to my oldest daughter's ipod. I'm really hoping our flight goes smoothly.

When DD was 4 we took both kids to Jamaica. It was a red eye from LAX. They both slept wonderfully especially since they were small enough to fit in those seats, had a blankie and an "friend" from home. Aren't there some overnight flights to Europe?

I also always packed a backpack full of things (and snacks) she'd never seen before. It bought me a few hours anyway.

Oh, and if you go the Benedryl route - try it at home first. It has the opposite effect on some kids. The last thing you need is to try and keep a hyper 4 year-old quiet for 10 hours :sad2:

Ray - vodka and juice in a sippy cup? There goes your Father of the Year award :rotfl2: everybody knows too much juice rots the teeth. Coke helps settle upset tummies.

Thanks all for your imput. I am telling DH we are still on, but we might have to wait to buy airfare till we are sure.

RJAYL - If it gets to that point, we will all be taking a swig out of that sippy cup. :drinking:
