June 22 Magic (Western)

I just wanted to add my mother and myself to the June 22 cruise list. I have been lurking on this board for over a year now, but have never posted. I just paid the balance a week ago. My mother and I are big Disney fans, but have never taken a Disney cruise. We did go on a Holland America Alaskan cruise in the summer of 1999. We have stayed on-site numerous times at Disney World and at Disneyland since 1978. We haven't decided on any excursions yet. My mother has trouble walking so we will probably just stick to the less strenuous ones. We are staying in a handicapped cabin on deck 7. I am treating myself to a cruise in honor of my 40th birthday! We are looking forward to meeting other Disboarders on the cruise.

Hi everyone! We are scheduled for late seating too! Too much rushing around to be ready for the early seating! We haven't received our excursion info yet either...went on DCL and got all the info. from there!

Can't wait for June!

Beth

Hi everyone, and welcome to HockeyHeather glad you joined our dis family for June 22. Well, we had our Caribbean party last with the other 2 families traveling with us and our Travel Agent and her hubby came too. We had a great time (Coronas, Margaritas, Strawberry Dacquiris, Mexican Pizza, Chicken Quesidas, Shrimp, Key Lime Pie just getting our taste buds ready for the cruise. We are only opting to do the Cozumel Catamaran boat for the adults and teens do the teen one. KW and GC we will do things on our own. We have early seating and Deck 6, other 2 families deck 5. Can't wait to meet everyone in June. It looks like a lot of us are going to be at the Radisson the day before. Keep in touch on the disboards and by email. Can't wait for June!!!:bounce:

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: Just wanted to say hello to all of our future "cruisemates". We, DH, DW, and DS 17 & 13. This is our second Disney cruise, but our first 7-day Disney cruise. We will be staying at Port Orleans riverside for two nights prior to the cruise. Hope to see some of you there or later on the cruise. See Ya!!!!!!!!

Hey Grumpy's Crew, send us an email any time. I have two teenagers going, DS 17 DD 13. Drop me an email and we can chat. We did the 4 day and the 7 day eastern, now the 7 day western is 62 days!!!! Can't wait!!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to share with everyone if you haven't booked your rental car. Discount code with AVIS (USA) really is a good deal.
We rented a Chevy Venture van for about $52 each way to Radisson. This saved us over $30 from previous discount code I used.

Looking over the excursions still haven't finalized which ones will be best for us. Looking forward to the margaritas at Jimmy Buffet's in Key West. Also read a post on Carlos & Charlies that said this was a good place in Cozumel.

Roberta, Party sounded great, I have been looking at cardboard cutouts for door to jazz it up a bit. So far I'm leaning towards the pink flamingo and green palm tree. Magnet idea is so easy and won't take any room in suitcase.

Sounds like there will be (3) seventeen year old boys just from the posts here.

Hi, everyone!!
It is so much fun to be getting to know all of you. It's a shame we couldn't all crash Roberta and Ralph's party--it sounds as if it was so much fun!
Found out we can book excursions on 4/23. Also found out there are 2 formal nights on the western itinerary--they fall on Monday and Thursday. This is interesting since with a 3 restaurant rotation, we eat in the same restaurant Monday and Thursday.
2 months to go!!!
:p

Grumpy's crew,

I also have 2 boys going. 13 & 16 They are getting excited since we have been talking excersions. I am signing them up for the teen cruise and the teen day at Castaway Cay.

61 days and counting.

Joanne

Hi everyone, tomorrow is the day to call for excursions. Hopefully we can all get the excursions that we want. Looks like Cam found out that the formal nights are Monday and Thursday which are days at sea, thank God. Anyway our party went well and it was a little crazy too. Can't wait for the cruise to party there!!! Keep in touch and take care!!!

Hi all you Junne 22 sailors! I originally posted on the cruise critic board, and now (finally) on this one. Were flying into Orlando from San Diego on Thursday night (June 20th), staying at the Radisson. We'll be sight seeing at Kennedy Space Center on Friday, then back to the hotel Friday afternoon and evening.
Here's a few questions?
Any tips on the KSC?
Where's a good place to eat around the Radisson?

We sailed on the May 25th Magic, Eastern last year. Know a few of you were on that same cruise. We made the decission to return pretty much the same day they announced the Western itinerary. The Eastern cruise was the best family vacation we've ever had! We've invited some friends to go with us, so we'll be sharing the magic this time ;) ;)

Please let us know when you are all meeting on Friday at the Radisson, and/or at the sail-away party.

There are 4 adults (43 & 42) and 4 kids in our party (2 Boys/11, 1 girl 13 and 1 girl 8). We are in catagory 5, deck 7; aft, with connecting rooms. Some of the things we did last year that were fun are: "cabana massages" at Castaway Cay (glad we did it, but probably won't again: took up too much of our time), we enjoyed the "Surial Bath" in the Spa on our anniversary; an obviously fun time for couples only, "wine tasting" on board: fun, "napkin folding class" (did this with our then 10 year-old son, really a kick. . . he spent the remainder of the trip having folding contests with our servers)! "Tea with wendy"; fun for our then 6 year-old, but would be boring for any child older. We live at the beach and have a pool in our backyard, so the pools on board weren't really a huge draw, our kids did like the slide though. This time we don't want to miss the walking tour of the ship. We had a blast at all the deck parties, and our kids loved the Oceaneer's Lab. Prior to the cruise, we purchased the minolta "walkie-talkies", this was a very good idea!

O.K. well, it's getting closer!!

Have a great day,
Tami

Hi Tami,

I posted the Cruise Critic thread that you answered. This is THE place for June 22 cruisers. Welcome, I am looking forward to meeting you, your friends and family at the Radisson or at the DIS sail-away party.

Following our May cruise last year we went to KSC on Sunday before returning home to Wilmington, Delaware. The most important tip I can give is to take the bus tour as soon as you arrive, or very soon after. We couldn't take it because we ran out of time. :o( It takes several hours and is by far the most imformative activity to do at KSC. We missed out and won't let that happen again.

We did the Astronaut Encounter and my DS (7) was chosen to do the activity up on stage and meet Capt. John McBride. He received an autographed photo and some other items as souvenirs. This was my son's favorite part of the day. We also toured the grounds, went aboard a space shuttle, saw the astronaut memorial, and took in a movie or two at the IMAX theater.

As far as places to eat near the Radisson, there are a few. There is a pretty good Italian place just next door called "Kelsey's." You can find a pretty complete list of restaurants near the port (and Radisson) on Dave's website listed below. "Dave from Marietta" was on our cruise last May 26-June 2.

Looking forward to counting the days with you and everyone else!!!
All the best!

Howard

All done. Booked excursions today. I am so looking forward to this. Some of the banana boat times are sold out already. We are doing some snorkeling, Dh & DS(13) are doing the jeep safari,
kids are doing the teen cruise and the wild side.

Can't wait 60 days to go. I am working on my tan now so the hot sun won't fry my skin.

We are booked with DCL this morning for the Four Hour Tropical Jeep Safari Tour in Cozumel. The tickets will be in our cabins when we board. According to the woman my DW (Cam) spoke with, changes can be made up to 2 days before sailing without penalty, but the written confirmation says cancellations must be done by 7 days before sailing.

We also booked the Stingray City and Snorkeling through Captain Marvin's for Grand Cayman. We have reserved 4 spots on our the 11:15 trip on June 25th. We will have to meet the Capt. Marvin's crew at their NEW office in the Waterfront Centre, 2 blocks to the LEFT of the cruise ship landing. We'll need to be there by 10:45 that morning, with towels and sunscreen.

This is really getting exciting!! Mike & Caroline are taking the same excursions as the ones I have listed here!!

Counting them together....

Howard

Well, called first thing today and we have all the excursions we asked for call confirmed. No problems. Now just winding down the next 60 days until the cruise. Hope everyone else got what they wanted on their excursions.

We're on the 22nd cruise! Me(41), , DW, DD (8) and DS (10). Thanks for the assists of two folks, we've found our way to Disboards and likely to the Raddison, too.

Looking forward to this adventure...our first cruise, but it sounds like you all with experience will help us along! One question we've got now (among hundreds we won't ask) is: How formal is the formal night? We understand that the semi-formal night is ladies dresses, but does my DW need something really formal for the formal night?

Thanks for your help! We look forward to meeting you all!!

Welcome to the DIS Boards and the activity center for what we affectionately call the June 22 cruisers!! I will leave it up to the ladies to answer your question about how formal a dress your DW should wear on the two formal nights of the cruise (Monday and Thursday). I will be wearing a tux for each of the formal nights, but men also wear suits too.

Please feel free to ask any of the 100's of questions you or your family may have. This forum is the place to ask it and there are many experienced cruisers here more than willing to help you. Or you can e-mail me directly (keenho@aol.com) with questions.

I hope you all stay at the Radisson and can meet up with the gang who will be staying there on June 21 (as we are). If not, we'll be sure to see you at the DIS sail-away party on the Magic. As of today we have 57 days to go!!!

Have a great day and week!!

Howard

Hi Tom, & all who care about packing/what to wear
We sailed last year on the Western cruise and I belabored over it as well prior to our cruise. In retrospect, I WAY OVER PACKED!! I packed 2 outfits per-day for our children, and the same for myself. Took one suitcase with only shoes. In reality, my son wore the same thing over and over till it was dirty, and our daughter (then 6) went through all her clothes. I over packed for myself, packing things for "just in case". I also took along a "stain stick" so I could spot stains ahead of time for when we got home. At one point I had a crazy idea that I would put in a quick load of laundry. I filled a pillow case with a light-load and headed to the laundry-room. There were 7 women ahead of me! Three hadn't even gotten to a washing machine yet! I asked the last one in line, who was reading a book, "How long have you been waiting?" She replied 30 minutes. I took a glance at my watch and quickly came to my sences, fleeing quickly back to the state-room with same dirty clothes! ;)

As far as formal night. I did wear a long gown one night and my husband wore a nice dark sportcoat and Tommy Bahama black silk pants. The other night I wore dressy black pants and a flouncy silk blouse. Our kids wore: (DS/then 10) dockers kahki's with shirt, tie & sportcoat & (DD/then 6): last years Christmas dress. There were many people dressed less formal than us and a few dressed to the nine! It's way fun to get dolled up and they take your picture everytime you turn around! The night my DH and I went to Palo, I even went to the spa and had my hair done in an "up-do". Really fun and a special night.

One great idea I read on another post. . . buy an inexpensive over the door plastic shoe organizer or any organizer to hold shoes or other essentials, ie: walkie-talkies/ cameras/ etc. . . folds very flat and if it's way cheap, you can leave it there!

Getting excited!
Tami

Hi everyone, glad to hear that everyone got the excursions that they wanted. Now it is checking lists and making sure that we have everything to pack in the next 2 months. A little shopping every week. Happy shopping to everyone....
