We are taking 2 boys 13 & 16 on their first cruise. Is there alot for them to do? Will they eat dinner w/ us or should we expect them to dump us for new friends?

Any one else w/ teenager on this cruise?

Thanks.

Hi, Joanne--
Welcome aboard!! DH (KeenHo) and I are going on the 6/22. Our children are not going this trip (we sailed the eastern itinerary 5/26/01), but I sent your post to rcdisneyfam because she has a DS about your older son's age and a DD about your younger son's age. My DD13 loved the ship last year--lots to do, but fun even to just hang out by the pool. Look for the thread called 6/22/02 western roll call or something like that, and you will find out lots about some other families that are going. I think we are up to about 13 DIS families going that week. Looking forward to getting to know you and yours. Feel free to email me at keenercam@aol.com if I can be of any help.

i am 18 and have done a few DCL cruises...

as far as kids ditching parents for dinner... most kids go to dinner wtih their family, but occasionally take a night off... I chose to be on my own one night on this last cruise, but the food is so much better in the restaraunts. In all honesty, my mom just expected me to go to dinner with them. It was just about the only time that I saw her on the cruise, besides quick stops in the room wtih friends during here and there.

Of course your kids will meet new friends, but i guess its up to you about setting rules about dinner. i liked dinner wtih the family on all my cruises... but there are certain nights ya just wanna hang out. let me know if they have any questions about the cruises... im always online to chat to... and talking about disney cruises makes me happy. my friends were joking that if the fire on the boat would have been much worse, I probably would have cried. The funny thing is they are right.

Like i said, either you or your kids can feel free to email or im me.... stang02@aol.com

Joannel, I emailed you. OUr kids eat with us at dinner. The only night they do not is when they do the Teen boat excursion which is on Cozumel night at 6:30. It will be our third cruise and our kids love it. They tend to eat breakfast and lunch with the newly found friends and we do make them eat dinner with us. They enjoy that too. We kind of catch up on what we all did that day. They usually are in the room by 2:00 a.m. as that is when the teen club closes. Email me and we can chat there.

rcdisney i am impressed...

your kids made it up for breakfast? woah. haha, we have done the 7Day Eastern twice now and some on the wonder... i think the earliest I have ever been up was for Customs on St. Thomas morning, but I went rightttttt back to bed after that and slept in until 11 or so.

The teen club opens at noon and closes at 2... i usually got into my room around 3 or 4 or 5... it depended on what we (my "group") was doing that night. sometimes we would just go hang out on deck and talk and other nights we would order crazy amounts of room service and pig out... ahh, how i miss room service.

Matty--
You sound like a fun guy! I too, get very happy when I get to talk to anyone about our Magic cruise. Only 94 days to go!!
I agree with a lot of what has been said by Roberta and Matt. Our kids had dinner with us every night on last year's magic cruise, but were pretty free during the day. DS7 was in the clubs a lot or with our friends that we were traveling with. Our DD12 hung out with her friends most of the time, but we all had dinner together. Often the kids left before dessert, either to meet up with friends (DD) or to go to some activity at the OC (DD). Dinner really was a great time for us all to catch up, and we definitely spent most of our port days together, unless DD was hanging out with friends at the beach. DS had a reasonable "vacation week bedtime"--around 10:30 or 11:00pm. DD usually was in by 1:00, especially if she and her friends went to a late movie.
