June 22 2012 New York here we come!

Hi! My son is 6 and looking forward to meeting friends too! This is our first cruise and we live on cape cod, Mass. and will be driving in with my mother from CT

J: where do you all live? We are in HdG. Are you going up the day before, or day of? Are you driving? I think we are going up on Thursday and staying overnight, then driving onto port in the AM

We live in southern Carroll county, just north of rt 70. We are driving up the day before too. My brother lives in Bloomfield NJ which is only about 15 mins from NYC. We are leaving our car at my brother's and taking a car service to the port in the am. We have an 11:30 boarding time.

So, then, I guess my new signature should look like this. :thumbsup2

Welcome - I am a first time DCL cruiser and it took me a while to figure out all the abbreviations too- in fact I think I ended up googling them to figure them out (then I found them in other non-disney forums!)
but a DD is a Disney Daughter - or Darling Daughter
DS - Son
DH- Husband
DW - Wife

there are more ... but you get the idea ...

Welcome! I too am interested in the 5K - from what I have gathered, they gather you in one area around 8 or 9 am, you walk off the ship together ... run ... there are some posts on the main DISBoard site but I am planning on doing it.

Cool, my DD was checking this morning to see if you responded with your daughter's names. This is the first time she is excited to potentially find and meet other kids on the ship, as she is very shy. So whatever I can do to encourage her to actually DO all the activities is awesome!

I also like the Purex sheets, esp. when they are BOGO! Laundry rooms are on the 2nd floor, so good for you! They get really busy, though, and often times you can find an empty washer on 7, but not 2 or 6...

Edie, my 10 yo, is a tad shy but opens up really quick when a nice potential friend approaches and introduces herself. Would she do the introducing? Probably not. But, that is how things are when they are younger. I couldn't have approached a stranger when I was younger.

Jesse, my 7yo, is a very social creature. She'll blab your ear off and is very friendly. Again, though, she's not going to walk up to a girl and introduce...but she will talk away once a girl approaches.

Maybe they can exchange a photo? They would be more comfortable meeting, or emailing, if my girls had a visual. My email is mtquinn1@verizon.net Feel free to send something, and I will do the same back.

What fun!
Michele

Hi, everyone! We are on the 6/22 sailing out of NY. It will be myself, DH, DD10 (turning 11 while on the ship...hooray!) and DD7.

We live in southeastern PA and are SUPER excited for our first Disney cruise.

Anyone out there sailing with daughters similar in age? Would love it if my girls could make some new friends and play while on the ship and in the clubs/at the beach.

Just cannot wait for these next few weeks to pass. Got our passports, sunscreen, SafeSea for the icky sea lice, just have to get some laundry sheets and we are good to go.

The washers/dryers don't take quarters, right? How do you pay for laundry again?

So glad to be on this board!

My daughter is 11 (She'll be 12 in August), and it will be just the two of us cruising together. She's really excited and also can't wait to meet new friends.

You just use your room key for charging laundry purchases.

I am new to this forum and I need some kind of a key to what all the letters mean. Why do people use so many abbreviations now-a-days. Does it really take that much more time to write out the whole word. Maybe I am showing my age (I am NOT that old), but I'm just saying that it is sooooo frustrating when you don't know what the abbreviations stand for.

I am cruising with my wife, and my three daughters. Their ages are 11, 7, and 5.

I just finished reading all the posts in this forum (Took me a couple of days) and I realized that we missed the cut off for the "Fish Extender" (Not that I had a clue what the hell it is ;-)

Sorry in advance if this comes out the wrong way, but I am just trying to figure this all out. This is our 1st Disney Cruise (So Exciting.!!!) We went to Disney World in November of 2010 and stayed in Port Orleans.

Welcome. Can't wait to meet everyone. My daughter is also 11.

It took me a while to grow accustomed to the abbreviations as well as even though I know what a lot of them, I still write in complete sentences with punctuations in texts.

KTTW - Key to the World (Room key)
FE - Fish Extender

Can't think of anymore right now, but feel free to come back and ask and I'm sure one of us will jump in and help you.

Hi! We are on deck 2 in an inside cabin. But, you never know with me. When we get to the port and if there is an upgrade...:lmao:

My almost 11 yo's name is Edie, the younger is Jesse (Jessica).

I prefer the Purex sheets myself. So easy.

Where is your cabin located? We live in Oreland...which is southeastern PA, outside of Philly.

As mentioned earlier, my daughter is 11 and we're also in an inside cabin on 2. She's currently trying to decide between going to the Lab or Edge.

And I LOVE the Purex sheets when traveling!

My daughter is 9 and will be 10 in September. She's an only child and this is our first big vaca without her cousin so I am sure any buddies she can make will make the trip even more fun. Her name is Eva. If anyone's kiddo would like to email with her ahead of time just shoot me a PM. Can't believe we are just over 3 weeks away! :cool1:

My son is an only child as well, he is only 6 but would be happy to find a friend.

I also have a daughter who is 10, and a son who is 6. They have been on a Disney cruise before and loved the kids play area. They usually stick together to play around. Since our native language is french, they speak just a little english. They are willing to make friends, but communication may take a little effort... !!

Safe Sea lotion is a sunblock that also protects against the stinging of most jellyfish, Sea Nettle, Sea Lice, and Coral.

We have seen guests have trouble with sea lice at castaway but I think it can happen anywhere

I don't think it happens often, but i hear it's painful. Saying that we've never bought anything like was mentioned here. For our first cruise I did but motion sickness med, but never used it and never take it with us now. I would not worry too much
