Hi, everyone:
We are Richard and Jennie from Waterbury, CT and booked this cruise yesterday. We are seasoned cruisers having cruised about 20 times, mainly with Celebrity, but never ever with DCL. Having been to WDW three times and a huge Disney fan it goes without saying that we are super excited about this cruise. It will be a very special birthday for me (75) aboard a very special cruise line. I was so excited last night when Mickey phoned me to welcome us. I feel like a little kid and cannot contain the excitement.

Being new to the Disney boards, I'm still trying to decipher the initials used by everyone. Finally figured out FE is fish extenders but do not know what they are except for something outside the room door.

We'll be staying at one of the resort hotels, hopefully Animal Kingdom, for two or three night before or after the cruise. Not sure which would be better.

So, that's our story. Really looking forward to reading about everyone and meeting you all next year!

Jennie

Welcome Grandma Rainbow! :welcome: You are going to have an amazing time!!!! Your post had me smiling, I can hear your enthusiasm and excitement.

The FE (fish extenders) are a great way to add some fun to the cruise. The FE hang outside your door. Easiest way to describe it is it looks similar to a over the door shoe holder. the kind with the pockets. typically each person in the room has their own pocket. Then each cabin that signed up to participate in the exchage gives a gift to the other cabins. So throughout the cruise you get little presents! We've been on 3 DCL cruises and this last time we did the FE and it was a lot of fun!

:welcome: aboard the Western Jamaican Fantasy and also to the DIS. Also please feel free to also join our FB page as well. https://www.facebook.com/groups/494617903904145/ To answer your question as to whether to go to the parks before or after the cruise is really a personally preference. We always do the parks first do to the parks are all go go go and then relax on the cruise. To some people like to go to the parks afterwards since they do not want the Disney pixie dust to end so they desire a few days at the parks after the cruise. It is your call. Good luck with your decision. We are veterans of 8 DCL cruises (with another in 8 weeks) so if you have any questions regarding the ship or itinerary please do not hesitate to ask.

Thanks so much to both of you for welcoming this old lady. LOL! Now I know what FEs are. Reading all the posts from the Disney boards is sharpening my observation skills trying to figure out the many initials used. Now I now what a ressy is.

The reason we were thinking about the AKL first is that we won't be going into any parks. We were in AK three years ago and loved it. We have mobility problems, so we thought it might be relaxing to just hang out at the resort, do DtD and animal gaze at the resort. Seems like the perfect place to chill since we will probably be more active on this cruise discovering all that's new and different. We've been on Celebrity so many times we mostly chill on those cruises. Also, flying in the day of the cruise is too uncertain with all that has changed with air travel. Flying in and going to a resort won't be as stressful since time doesn't factor in.

I know that we'll have a lot of questions. I have been reading everything available on these boards. I want to buy a magnetic sign for the door. Finally found some on Ebay. Found a lot on these boards to download and DIY, but I'm not too artistic or creative.

Thanks again.
Jennie

Welcome to the group! A Disney cruise is a fabulous way to celebrate a birthday - I'll be celebrating my 50th on this trip :goodvibes This will be our 7th DCL cruise and I still feel that same excitement planning as I did for our first trip. You're going to have a wonderful time!

Welcome! Having another cruise to plan really helps ease the pain of getting off the ship, doesn't it? We plan to stay on board during one of the stops as well (want to spend a quiet day in the Rainforest Room!). I think for us it will be the Cozumel day. We've been there before and really enjoyed an excursion to the Tulum ruins, but don't need to do that again and nothing else is terribly appealing. But there's still plenty of time (too much time!) to decide. :)

It does ease the pain. :-). We kept on saying that on the last couple of days. We loved the rainforest room!!

Last cruise was our first time in the rainforest room - and we were hooked! Now we are planning an entire day around it :)

59 weeks to go! So nice to see that number dropping but it's still soooooo far away.:( I don't think we've gone a year between cruises since we started cruising (lucky us, I know) so this feels like a really long time. We need to pick up the chit chat here to help make the time go by faster! :surfweb:

First time Disney cruiser here with questions:
The pirate show and fireworks look amazing. Since we cannot stand for long periods of time, are there seating options? in all the pictures it seems everyone is standing.
We fully plan to go on Aquaduck. Since you seem to start and end in different areas, are you able to take your personal belongings with you in the raft (like shoes)?
We are staying at AKL for three days pre-cruise. What time can we expect to be picked up by the Disney bus?
Thanks and keep those posts coming. I feed off them and my excitement continues to escalate.
Jennie

During the fireworks you can pull up some chairs and sit for the show and the fireworks. Just don't put the chairs on the pool (it is covered). As far as the aquaduck goes, you can leave your stuff at your lounge chair or you can put them in the cubbies at the beginning of the ride. The end is not that far from the beginning. I would not bring them on the ride because you get soaked!!!!!
