I have stayed away from this board due to the length of time between trips to the fort and the depression that sets in when your trip is over. Our last visit was in June 2014 and we have to travel from AZ so every other year makes more sense for us. I had been kicking tires on a new RV and did pull the trigger late last summer so this trip will be in a larger motorhome which will be more comfortable. I tried to sneak a trip last October but the weather was not right so June 2016 it is. I still have to sell my 32w Bounder before we go. Our plan is to leave Phoenix Tuesday, May 24 @ 12:00 and spend Wednesday late night through Sunday at Camp Gulf in Destin Florida, then head over to Disney and stay through Father's day. I don't have great pictures of the new RV but will post what I have.

2015 Discovery 40g bunkhouse for this crew

Then new RV is at the dealer going through the punch list right now and should be ready for May.

Any updates on AAA discounts? or any other discounts? the savings in diesel is used up in the higher campground rates...

Wow, motorhome and mobile garage. That looks like it's 200 feet long.

Steve, I remember your trip report.

I also remember the pictures you had of the MEAT cooking on that smoker. I STILL remember how good they looked. Weren't you in 600 loop on that trip?

Boy, it looks like a beautiful new RV and with the trailer in back, you might need a CDL to drive that thing. <jk> :o

Nice to hear you are coming back.

Steve,

Good to hear from you again. Great looking rig you got there, although I thought your last one was great looking too from what I saw on the last TR.

(Don't see too many trees in your pictures...where do the squirrels live?)

It was the 600 loop, 608 if I remember correctly. Ed brought up the man's smoker and some of his pictures. For those of you who missed his trip report here's a link.

Glad to have you back around for a while. Good to see a June trip report thread up also.

Anybody else going in June?

What a memory Ed yes 608 is correct. I requested same loop for June and will try to check in early online to select a waterfront spot. No cdl required in AZ.

Those pictures were taken at the imperial sand dunes Buttercup Valley. Some people refer to Glamis dunes. This area is located right off Interstate 8 near the border between AZ and CA. This is where Return of the Jedi was filmed.

Well, that was tiggerdad who got the site number (he's a lot younger and his mind is sharper). I just remembered the loop.

But I remember food. I remember your meat in the smoker so I am gonna brag on ya. Here is a picture from your trip report two years ago I HAVE to share:

It's just enough to get me started. I like the look of the sauce but I need a stack of Wonder Bread, a pitcher of sweet tea, a roll of paper towels, and a box of Handi-Wipes to clean up afterward. I would top it off with a piece of coconut cream or lemon meringue (had to look up how to spell it) pie.

Oh and a big bib!:worship:Alternatively, you can just hose me down afterward. I'll eat in my bathing suit.

Hope you are planning to show us some new photos like this in June 2016.

Steve,

Nice new rig and congrats on your semi annual Fort trip.

I'm surprised Ed and Tiggerdad didn't mention it, but there are a bunch of us meeting up at Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores AL the same time you are in Destin at Camping on the Gulf. GSP is an hour or so west of Destin. I do love Camp Gulf, but you are more than welcome to join us at GSP. You'll save several hundred dollars on your campsite, but will give up the "on the beach" camping. Tiggerdad is coming in on Thursday, May 26th. S.AL.5er on Friday and I am coming in Saturday with several others.

If you haven't seen the thread that prompted the whole DIS meet, HERE it is.

Nice looking class a, what's that thing have in it for power, Cummins?

Yeah Teamubr is right there's a bunch of us planning on GSP in Gulf Shores. I'm looking forward to it.

Steve,
Wow nice RV. We are currently in a bounder but I day dream if the Discoverys.

We are in about the same boat as you. Leaving MN May 20 and will be at the Fort - June 6.

It seems this is the year of resurrections on dis boards. Our last trip was in 2014 and I am just coming back. There was at least one other TR I saw here of a 2014 trip who stayed away and is just coming back.

Have a great trip. The countdown is on!

Great lookin' rig and family. Sure bet it's nice havin' the extra space. Tiggerdad, you mentioned no trees, would seem to me the trailer would be plenty comfy for the squirrels. Teamubr, "unfortunately" I might just be in the area of Gulf Shores for a "business trip" the week you guys are there. I'm hoping to get over there during your stay. I'll keep in touch

Had a little issue with the smoker but the manufacture stepped up way out of warranty and it is ready for some work at the fort. I might try a brisket on one of the fort days...

Cummings isl9 , my face cramps up every time I drive it from grinning:).

45 days or so until we leave. I had the rv warranty items repaired and did one more trip to the dunes and everything is working :). List of things I need to do before we leave

1. one year service on the Rv (debating freightliner vs speedco)
2 purchase small freezer possibly to fit in basement storage
3 bicycle headlights ( last trip cast member said they were required)
4. Finalize meal plans. We will shop in Phoenix for most of the meats and for Memorial Day weekend and trip out. We will then shop in Orlando and plan one gardn grocer delivery. We will not have a car so Uber is our only transportation And dis buses

5. Test my wifi system in the rv with 4g phone and wifi input. Not sure how it all works but in theory the system should balance the load based on speeds between the hotspot and park wifi.

6. purchase park tickets , I think we are going with 6 day with water park. I still have one park and one water no expiration left from last trip

7. Camping world fix.... I might have a camping chair addiction, need to go check this years chairs out

8. estimate beer consumption and multiply by 1.5 just to be safe.
