June 2013 Car Rental When Best Deals

Rates for my dates (June 4-11) have dropped a bit at Alamo and on carrentalsavers.com. Car Rental Savers has an intermediate for $142 all taxes and fees included with Enterprise. Not too shabby, though last year was cheaper.

For now I'm keeping my Standard at Alamo for $153. I got that rate using our Insider's code, plus the Visa discounts (Coupon Code AD7394SDJ and ID #7015504). We've used Alamo the past few trips, and I've never tried Enterprise. Unless another company's rates fall more than a few bucks, I'll keep with Alamo.

Swimmergirl,
I have a question, is the "visa code" a specific type of Visa card or just any card with a Visa symbol? Also where did you get the ID #?

Thanks!

Thanks for that! Can you tell me where that code comes from? Gets me a better rate for a bigger car, but wary of mysterious codes!

it came from an email i got from alamo.. clicked the link and it took me to a page describing the offer and then that page took me to the reservations page with the code already typed in. the deal said

Free Day with 5-Day Rental

Available for the rental of a Standard size car or higher for a minimum of five days, with a Saturday overnight stay. Valid at participating Alamo locations in the United States and Canada; not valid in Manhattan, NY. Offer valid for rentals April 28 through June 8, 2013.

i started getting emails from alamo when i signed up for the free insiders program. my thanks to one of the previous posters...

I just reserved a compact car for June 7-14 for $200. This sounds high to me, but I'm trying the posted codes and not getting anything better. Is this what I should expect to pay?

i just ran your dates through
http://www.carrentalsavers.com/florida-car-rental.html
and the rates are much lower.

also, does it have to be a compact? because you can use the alamo code i posted previiusly and get a standard or full size for pretty cheap, too.

For anyone who has a Costco membership - I just rebooked a full size car through Budget for 11 days (6/20-7/1) for $264!!

Nope, doesn't have to be a compact! It will just be DS and I, so it doesn't really matter what it is. Thanks for the info. I will check alamo and the other site again.

It came from the Visa website. You just need to use a Visa (any kind) when you pay. Here's the link: http://usa.visa.com/personal/discou...tegoryName=CarRental&categoryId=15&pageId=197

Click on the Alamo link for the corporate ID and coupon code. You might want to play around using different combos of the Alamo Insiders corporate ID (which is automatically applied if you log in with your insider info) and the Visa one. Sometimes the insider ID gives you a better rate, and you can use the Visa coupon code by itself. The coupon is for $ off, the ID is for % off.

Also, as of yesterday, using the coupon code AFD5426JAK (from the Alamo website itself) and my Insider ID gave me a better rate than the Visa one. So be sure you try all the combos for the best deal!

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. By using the posted link, I'm getting $157, which comes to $189 with taxes etc. Using the Alamo code I'm getting $262. The $189 is slightly better than my $200 rate, but not much.

Just booked June 9 through June 22 through Alamo, got a full size for $291 total using Alamo Insider 7015135 and Visa code AD2338FDF. Keishashadow got a good rate with this code combination a couple wks ago and I've been watching and waiting. Best price I've seen in the past 2 months, had a Budget rental on hold but will now cancel that. Would rather use Alamo. I'll keep checking in case it drops more.

Thanks Keishashadow and everyone else for the money saving info!

If I remember correctly you can reserve a standard with Alamo and pick from the fullsize cars so you might save a few bucks more.

Don't forget the Travelocity SUV deal with Avis. Use coupon code MUWA130 for an extra $35 off. It should come out to approx $200 including taxes and fees for 7 days. SUV must be picked up by 6/15!!

:thumbsup2the monthly rental car threads really are helpful! Make sure to post 'when' that rate drops so we can all jump on it!:)

Can someone tell me about the process of renting from Alamo as an Insider? Do you go straight to garage, or need to wait in line?

I have always used Dollar Express, which has a separate line inside or if you complete all info on-line you can go straight to garage kiosk.

How about for Alamo?

I know you are asking about Alamo, but I was hoping to get your opinion on Dollar as you mentioned you use them normally. :) I have a ressie for a minivan from Dollar for June 17 to 26th for $411 (I still have my fingers crossed the City Specials will get better before our departure). Did you find Dollar good to deal with? The vehicles in good condition? I signed up for Dollar Express but was wondering if that was more of a marketing thing than actually something to speed up the process.

if you have a coupon associated with reservation typically you cannot check in online and need to stop at the kiosk in terminal, then you walk across and pick your car off the appropriate aisle.

haven't rented often thru dollar but the few times i did via express, that line was longer than the regular lines and they only had 1 person servicing it:confused3. It's been almost two years since i rented thru them 2 MCO...chiming in to ask if it's still the same set up jik they turn out to be the lowest priced for upcoming trip.

Im thinking of trying to bypass the counter as I have heard a lot of bad stories when trying to get your car. If I sign up to be an alamo insider, do I provide my CC info and can I bypass the counter and long lines this way? When you mentioned using a coupon, does it include e coupons too? im not sure what the difference between a kiosk and a counter is.

sorry for all the questions. not very familiar with car rentals. any help will be very much appreciated.
