June 2013 Car Rental When Best Deals

Is there any reason that I shouldn't use Priceline if I'm sure about my dates and times? I would really like to be able to use a rental agency where we can pick out the car. Would I have any control over this if I use Priceline?

you get one of 5 companies and they tell you which 5 before you bid but you have no control over which one so you have to be prepared to go with what you get. so if picking out your own car is important, don't use priceline.

the times i've used priceline i've had very good experiences. i find the lowest rate i can through the codes posted on these kinds of boards, etc. then i see if i can get priceline to take it a little lower. sometimes the rate i have already is so low (thank you all you wonderful code-posters) that my attempts on priceline don't get me a better deal.

you can retry the same car size every 24 hours. plus if you have a few car types you would be ok with you can re-bid on the different car sizes right away.

one time my husband was using a car rented through priceline and, while the car was parked outside a hotel with just our daughter sitting in the car, another car hit our priceline rental car. we always decline added insurance, and i was all set for bills to come our way but we were not responsible for any of the damages and were never asked to pay a penny more.

Yay!!!! Thank you both so much! I reserved a standard-size SUV for $350 for 10 days. I am so happy! Thank you for your help and saving our family so much. I never thought I had a chance of getting an SUV for less than I budgeted!:goodvibes

Looking for a nice mini van code for June. Dates not booked yet... flexible based on rental car and flight prices. The KLM code is the best so far. Looks like my old stand by for mini vans, x474200 at Budget is a dead link.

Budget seems to be the cheapest for our trip so far. I got an SUV for $194 for our dates June 14-19 thanks to this board. I owe a big things to the person who pointed me here. I have been on the DIS for several years now but this is the first time to use this board....we usually drive.

I am just checking in to see if this is the norm or not. I have a reservation with Dollar for a minivan from MCO airport for the June 17-26th time frame for $420.82. I obtained this rate a few weeks back using the "City Special" on their webpage. I have been checking the rates each day since then to see if I can get anything lower from them. Yesterday I noticed they had gone up about $60 and today they have increased again. I am a rental newbie and had been thinking the rates would drop, but now I am wondering do they start to increase again as you get closer to the rental date?:confused3

I know this doesn't answer your question but thought I'd let you know that you can do a little better through National with Contract ID 8572130.

Thanks for the info. I knew about the KLM Code and would love to go through them but was a little nervous about renting through National (even if it would save me $30). A few people have told me that they had previously reserved minivans through National, but there were none available when they got there. It may be rare for that to happen, but I have not received feedback to the contrary. :sad2: I cannot risk that happening to us with five people and associated luggage.

I have kinda a dumb question but the old if its too good to be true thing is making me wonder. I need to rent for 6 days in June. National is over $100 more than Hertz or Avis. I have only used National and Alamo. Both have been great so I am nervous to use someone else. Is Hertz or Avis a good choice, or are there hidden fees that make them so much less? I don't want bad service or to have to pay more than I planned on....
Thanks!

Looking for a good rate on a minivan for the end of May (10 day rental) and beginning of June at MCO. Anyone find a lower rate than about $450 (on-site only)?

hertz and avis are well regarded, as long as you qualify for whatever code/coupon you used to book the reservation and you're looking at the final post tax price and don't add on any optional services at the counter, there's nothing to stress about.:)

re AVIS not sure if this code was posted here or not, it's direct promo from them for two types of SUV Rentals @ $169/week+ or $23/weekend day. Enter AWS code H876503 for rental pickup by 6/15/13. Final rate quote was in area of $240 for 7 nights for rental i checked beginning 6/8.

"For $5 off 1 dayæuse coupon code MUWA236 Note: i couldn't get this to work on a 7 night reservation, odd.

I am coming up with $492 for a compact for 6/25 to 7/2 using these codes... I am booked already with Budget for $279 but am hoping to get something lower as my trip with DD gets closer.

For my trip two weeks ago with DH for the same amount of time I went from $279 down to $121 with Alamo a couple of weeks out so I am hopeful!!

I copied and pasted it from carrentalsavers website

NEW! Alamo Discount, up to 20% off nationwide! For up to 20% off use Alamo contract ID 7014926. Valid for rental pickup by 12/31/13. No printouts required, blackouts may apply.

Just checked Dollar for my dates again and the rates have dropped a little below what I had originally booked it for ($412 versus $421), so I made a new reservation. Thankfully, it looks like the price increase that I posted about on 4/24/13 was short lived. Hopefully it will keep going down from here.:)

So far I have dollar booked for June 23-30. With fees , 253.00. Just booked at ez rent a car, total with fees 185.00... Anyone have comments on the company? Both are same category car.

I will need a compact car (just DS and I) June 7-14. Can anyone offer tips or information on where I should start the search process? Also, can anyone comment on what I should expect to pay?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Over the weekend I booked thru Alamo on Visa code with pickup at Tampa on 6/16 and drop off at Dolphin on 6/20 - FULL Size - $60.24!!! :) If I kept it for 2 more days over weekend rate jumped to 161....Seems like they want it back before weekend. Sicne we are staying over at YC easy walk to dolphin...

WOW! Can't believe how high the prices are for Alamo and National for June. I am used to getting some good buys but can't seem to find any this year :(.

Yeah, I haven't seen any awesome deals out there. Previously was going to fly in and out of MCO, and had found a minivan for around ~280 for 8 days. That's after months and months and months of searching every day. :) Had a change of plans and we'll be flying out of TPA, so the prices are higher. Currently have a res for 297 at Alamo for a minivan. Used the VROOOMVROOMVROOM code and the $30 off coupon previously mentioned, along with my insiders login.

The last couple days though, I've checked and the rates have spiked.

I can not get Alamo to remove the Visa code I was trying. It allowed me to remove the coupon code, but not the contract ID. Am I doing something wrong? I am just trying different combos but will not remove it. :badpc:

I hate the new Alamo site it was much more user friendly before. I had the same problem and had to keep going out and back in. It was a pain! try the National site with code 8572130 it's for Air France and you can sign up for free on their web site. I found National to be much cheaper than Alamo this year with this code.
