June 2011 No Buy Thread- Keeping our summer spending in check

No buy days: 8/15
June 1: $1.00 soda
June 2: $0 spent, made $.40
June 3: $0 spent
June 4: $2.16 for 2 movie rentals, $5.00 for antibiotic eye drops. I know I said I wouldn't count medicines, but since I lost the first bottle I think I should count this. BTW, found the eye drops on 6/15 in a sweatshirt pocket
June 5: $0 spent, and this is pretty good because I was at Walmart for groceries
June 6: $0 spent
June 7: $0 spent
June 8: $9.40 @ McDonalds (lunch for the friend who had the baby), $22.01 @ Diner - took the kids out to dinner, too hot to cook
June 9: $0 spent
June 10: $205.43 - bought my kids bunk beds
June 11: $139.32 - mattress for the new bunk bed, $2.16 redbox movie
June 12: $2.98 - father's day card, $65.40 at Walmart - cat food, rope and stakes to tie down my trampoline, sheets for the new bunk beds, pullups for my almost 5 year old who still needs them at night, and a white t-shirt for my older DD to decorate for flag day at school.
June 13: $0 spent
June 14: $16.10 Target (father's day gift)
June 15: $1.29 drink at Rite Aid - this was stupid, I should have just had free water at work :headache:
June 16: $0 calling it early, should be able to hold out today

I have to say this board is really making me think twice about my spending. I was about one click away from spending $135 on legos on the TRU website (maybe I shoudn't be tempting anyone, but great BOGO half price sale, with free shipping and a silly little lighthouse set thrown in)
I thought about writing it down on here, and realized it was a stupid expense. Yes, I could pretend it was x-mas gifts for my kids, but really it's me that wants the Harry Potter lego sets ;)

So now I will take that $135 and stash it in my savings fund for my Universal trip coming up in September

I know what you mean about this thread helping me spend less- it really makes me see where the little things add up. Yesterday I wanted to buy more at Target but was lucky to get out with just a father's day present (a CD on sale) and some soap with a coupon.

This board also works the other way though- I wouldn't have spent the $33 at Lands End if I didn't read about the sale on here! :)

Another gorgeous day here. We are expecting rain later this afternoon, and on and off for the next few days so I am happy we got all the yardwork done this morning.

I picked up a Jersey Mike's Sub for dinner as I have a meeting tonight and am too tired to cook. But I had a $2 off coupon so that works.

I just figured a great gift for my dad that won't bust my budget!! He has an iPhone 3, but has a bad habit of leaving his phone in the car when he comes home. I'm going to buy him a case for the phone, and one of those clip-on phone holders that you can hook to your belt.

Wow...McDees sure is cheap! I got 2 burgers and an iced coffee for less than $4!!

My spending yesterday was part of the wedding budget, so I will call it a no buy. Get this- DD tried on an amazing wedding dress that was a sample. It was $1000 marked down to $500. I cried when I saw her in it- she looked so beautiful.

She flips the tag to see who the designer is, and it is marked down to $99!!! We ended up trying on about 10 more dresses, but she picked the $99 one. It will need about $300 in alterations, but what an amazing buy. :-)

Wow! That is an incredible deal! :cool1: And you got tears, that's even better!

Hello No Buy Friends! After a few months off I'm back. We're in our new house, all unpacked and ready to move forward with this phase of our life. I'm still a little iffy on my budget because I haven't gotten a set of utility bills for the new house yet. We're in a much bigger house in a new city with new providers, so I have no real idea what to expect. For this month, I'm hoping for 7 no buys and 7 days under $10. I'm so glad to be back!

June 1 $20 Dh's PT, $35 groceries, $7 took the boys to the movies- tickets were $1 each and I got us all a water to drink, $15 Subway after the movies.

June 2 $6 took the boys bowling- the games were free but I had to pay for shoe rental.

June 3 $40 groceries- had dinner with my parents, they wanted me to bring a few different things so I had to stop at the store and get a few misc. groceries.

June 4 $55 race fees for DH and both boys, $40 celebratory pancakes after the race.

June 5 $90 groceries. I'm hopeful tomorrow will be a no buy day. Getting back in to the swing of this is tough!

June 6 $25 gas- DH didn't know it was a no buy day and he put in some gas. Oh well! $11 car wash-since Dh ruined the no buy day, I figured I'd get my car washed.

June 7 $56 pet supplies, $40 Target, $20-took the boys to ride a local train, tickets are $.75 each, and then out to dinner

June 8 $175 groceries, $57 date night

June 9 $0 :cool1::cool1::cool1:

June 10 $45 supplies for oil changes in the cars. We actually bought enough to cover the next set as well, so we should be golden for awhile on oil changes. Tomorrow should be a no buy day because I have my nephews and DH has to work and there is NO WAY I'm taking 4 little boys 5 and under out of the house by myself.

June 11 $0 :cool1::cool1::cool1:

June 12 $0 :cool1::cool1::cool1: Took the boys to the local swim beach with a picnic. We had a great time and it was totally free!

June 13 $0 :cool1::cool1::cool1: We are starting to get into serious Summer sport season. Starting today, the boys have some type of practice or lesson 5 days a week. The good news is that I might not have the time to spend money!

June 14 $40 renewed my Sam's Club membership. I wish we'd get a Costco up here, I hate Sam's. $40 in Sams, $15 groceries, $17 took the boys to the theater, $20 gas, $55 my cleaning lady came today, YAY!

June 15 $12 took the boys to a local water park, $18 McD after swimming, $175 groceries (holy cow can the men in my life EAT), $25 new t-ball bat

June 16 $0 :cool1::cool1::cool1: Took the boys to our local story teller in the park and then fishing for the afternoon. Great free fun!

5/7 No Buy Days
1/7 Under $10 Days

:flower3: I think i might borrow your $10 days next month i have been so disappointed on days where that is all i have spent and wishing they were $0 days:goodvibes
I added it in as an incentive to keep me from thinking "oh well, it's already a no buy day, why not just buy it". It's not working out very well this month though, I either spend nothing or a ton.
My spending yesterday was part of the wedding budget, so I will call it a no buy. Get this- DD tried on an amazing wedding dress that was a sample. It was $1000 marked down to $500. I cried when I saw her in it- she looked so beautiful.

Congrats on tears for the dress and WOW on the price!

Ugh, I can't wait for this week to be over so I can try again! Although I did save a little money yesterday. I was taking the kids to a place called Outdoor World that is about 1/2 hour away. With my huge car that's a lot of gas. Right before we left my friend told me it was a promotional day and the train was free. Well, the train happens to go right to the store and my kids had never been on a train before. So, even though we've gone way over budget all week I did save about $15 in gas by taking the train there! Once we got there I only spent about $4 because they have all sorts of free stuff for the kids in the summer. They got to do a Disney style shooting gallery, shoot archery, shoot a BB gun and make a craft all free! I spent the $4 on snacks for the train ride home, forgot it would be at dinner time.

I also saved by not letting DH order pizza. By the time we got back fromt he train I had to rush to get to dig training class. DH wanted to just order for the kids but I said no way - I did all that shopping at the start of the week we had to use it! He went simple, mac & cheese and hot dogs, but at least we didn't order out!

But, tonight is the night we go out to the fancy dinner with the kids. I checked out the menu - $15 chicken strips, $25 pasta! You do get babysitters though - there are kids rooms attached to the restaurant that are staffed with counselors to supervise the kids for free.

WEEK 2 TOTAL 507/400 (382/400 if I don't include party & dr. which should really come out of a different part of my budget)

June 13 - $30 gas, $33 Lands End (bathing suits for girls), $135 Publix, $65 basketball court rental for DS party

June 14 - $3 donuts, $60 doctor co-pay, $11 Target

June 15 - $17 Target (father's day present), $55 violin books, $35 dog food, $13 DH spending treats for kids

June 16 - $4 snacks, $12 beer, $16 CVS (DH went with no coupons!) $3 DH coffee

June 17 - $9 DH breakfast, $3 DH parking (when there are no meters about 20 yards down the street!), $3 DH coffee

WEEK 1 TOTAL 382/400

6/1-5 - $942- tons of stuff, some needed, some not
6/6- $145- groceries
6/7- $13 - Target (b-day present, lemon, chore chart $1)
6/8 - $0!!
6/9- $23 vet, $14 post office, $25 gas, $9 movie tickets

6/11 - $41 michaels, $7 publix, $12 walgreens, $17 wendys (ouch!)
6/12 - $22 publix, $7 DD shirt

WEEK 1 TOTAL 382/400

Since I did not spend my budget for the wedding dress, I'm going to help out DD with other expenses and put that under the wedding budget. I also gave my other DD $150 for the hotel at Disney this weekend, and will put that under the Disney weekend budget. I'll be leaving in the morning- too busy at work to take today off.

June 7 $56 pet supplies, $40 Target, $20-took the boys to ride a local train, tickets are $.75 each, and then out to dinner

June 8 $175 groceries, $57 date night

June 9 $0 :cool1::cool1::cool1:

June 11 $0 :cool1::cool1::cool1:

June 17 $77 Dh and I both had to renew our fishing licenses, $7 new fishing line, $22 lunch, $25 DS's riding lesson

Hmmm. Apparently I am not keeping my spending in check. Congrats on the wedding dress shopping Virgderon! This is the time of month (especially June...end of year craziness  ) that things go a bit haywire. I have to add another category! I booked my flight to Cairo for Christmas to visit with DD#1, DD#3 is not happy that I won't be around for the big day, but I have promised that we'll celebrate Christmas when I get home. I'm not really adding it to the list below, just acknowledging that I'm booked. ;)
