June 18 points for reservation Dec 18

New to these boards and new DVD owner. I am trying to understand the use year and what points will be used for a reservation. I have 0 points for 17 but have points coming in June 18. If I want to book 11 months out for Dec 18 will I have to borrow points into 2017 or will I just be using the 2018 points that are coming in June?

A December 2018 stay will fall inside your June 2018 UY.

If you think of it this way it may help - your June UY points are good for stays June 1, 2018 thru May 31, 2019. If the reservation falls any time within those dates, your June 2018 points can be used to book it.

Points need to be banked during the first 8 months of your UY. Your UY is not a calendar year. Points need to be available during the dates of your stay, not when you make the reservation. Banking moves points one UY forward, borrowing moves points one UY back. Banking and borrowing are final transactions and can not be reversed.

Rule to remember when making a reservation: when you call or go online to reserve is irrelevant to points used;thus to determine points to be used from a reservation, wipe from your mind the date you intend to go online or call to reserve, think only of the dates you intend to be at WDW; it is those dates that determine how points are used. A December 2018 trip falls within your June 2018 to May 2019 use year; thus the "current" use year points for that trip are the June 2018 points, any June 2017 points would need to be banked to use them, and you could borrow points from the June 2019 use year if needed. And you can make the reservation in January 2018 for your home resort or May 2018 for another DVC resort.
