June 18-20 dilemmas

We are checking out of our resort in Carsbad, CA on Friday June 18th and the plan was to leisurely drive to Anaheim that day, stopping at some beaches along the way like Newport or Huntington.

We had planned to do DL/DCA on Saturday and Sunday. Now due to what I am learning about the rush to get use out of the annual passes before the summer blockout, I am wondering if we should do Friday and Saturday instead? Do you think Friday will be less crowded than Sunday?

So if it is true we should choose Friday over Sunday, how is the traffic from Carlsbad to Anaheim on a Friday? What time would we have to leave to make it to the HoJo, park the car, check-in (room probably not ready!), walk to DL, get tickets (we have the GAD vouchers we want to upgrade), and make it into the park at opening time?!!

I really wanted to avoid having to rush on Friday like that but if Friday will be much less crowded than Sunday, I am thinking it may be worth it! Then we can just use Sunday to hit the beaches, enjoy the HoJo water play area, and maybe to a dinner at Goofy's Kitchen.

Easy question. An AP blocked Friday in June will be way, way, way better than an unblocked Sunday. On top of that, Friday is not a Magic Morning at DL while Sunday is. So the early morning hour at DL will be better too.

There will be a lot of traffic on a Friday morning from Carlsbad to DLR - especially once you get into Orange County. If it was me I would bite the bullet and leave really early from Carlsbad. 6AM. At the latest. Maybe 5:30AM. Leave early and if you make it to DL without traffic by 6:15AM do not tell yourself you should have left later but realize the 45 minute drive could have been 90 minutes if you left later. Then stop and get some breakfast near DLR once you are there early or just relax. My two cents.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I assumed the SoCal pass would be blocked sunday too for some reason!! I definitely agree that friday-saturday would be better. See you there!!!
