June 16, 2007 MedHead Cruisers

Thanks so much for planning this get together!!!! I will not know our flight times until the 1st of May. We booked through Disney and they said that was the earliest we could find out. Keep me updated with the time...I know we are flying overnight so we should get there early on the 16th!! I don't know in what shape we will be !! Ha Ha!! But hopefully we will be able to make it!!

Thanks again,
We are counting the days!!!

Caroline

Caroline - no need to worry, we are having the meet and greet on the 17th which is the 1st sea day. It's too hard to plan on embarkation day because of people arriving at different times and some DISers have excursions planned that day. So no worries!:cool1:

Jim - welcome home! Glad to hear you had a great time. Those Grand Villas are sweet aren't they! We had one for spring break at Saratoga Springs this year and we only ended up with 5 people in it so we had plenty of room. Everybody had their own bed!::yes:: Of course when we go back to a 2 bedroom for our next trip I am sure the kids will be wondering why we can't have the Grand Villa every time!

Teresa - I know what you mean. Some days I feel so prepared and then other days I'm like so much to do and so little time!:scared1:

I called DCL this morning and got the voicemail of course, so I am waiting on a call back. I'll let you know what I find out.

Who else is starting to get in panic mode? Or is it excitment mode? :rolleyes1

Teresa

For me right now it's definitely panic mode! I just made a list of everything that I need to do before the trip. It's 2 pages long! :scared1: A little overwhelming, but I'll just start working through it one item at a time....

With a heavy heart we are sending out our prayers and sympathy to family and friends of those killed or wounded in the Virginia Tech shooting today. I am not a Hokie parent yet, but my daughter will be going there next fall so it has hit our household pretty hard.

It is not only a sad day in Virgina Tech history, but a sad, sad day in US History.:sad1:

Please keep the families and friends of those killed or wounded in your hearts and prayers.

LeiLani, I can't imagine what it was like to be there or having family member or friend that was there @ that time. What a blessing your daughter wasn't in attendance yet.

Is a Hokie the nickname for a student @ VT?

Yes, it was a relief that she was not there this year. I would have been frantic.

A Hokie is the mascot for VT. We were told on the campus tour last it stands for nothing.:confused3 But their mascot that they use is a turkey!

Okay, I got a call back from DCL and here are the answers to the questions we had.

1. What time does the port open and what time is embarkation?
Port opens at 10am and embarkation should be around 12:30pm or 1pm.

2. What time is the lifeboat drill?
As stated earlier, the ships services will be suspended at 5:15pm and the
drill should happen between then and 5:45pm. DCL will know those
individuals who are off the ship and it should not cause a problem. But
they suggest you make sure that anyone who misses the drill knows
where their lifeboat station is located.

3. When will documents be sent out?
DCL is planning to get documents out earlier for the Med cruises. They
are trying to get them out around the 30-60 day mark. But as she stated,
they also still have to get documents out for the cruises that are still
going out between now and our cruise date.

4. Will we have rotational dinning, and what happens if we have a late
excursion and return after our dinning time?

Yes, there will be rotational dinning just like normal and if you miss your
dinning time due to a long excursion you will have the option of Topsiders
or the places on board besides the dinning rooms.

Hope this helps. Again we will really have to see what the cruisers have to say once the 1st 11 day goes out.

If you have any more questions let me know and I will see if I can get answers.

Thanks for all the info... puts me at ease a little more. I am not so worried about the cruise, that seems to be done, just worried about getting all my work done and the house taken care of before we go. once I have those 2 situated, I will be ready to pack and get out of dodge!

Hi Everyone,

We here in the NY area, have had a ruff couple of days with rain & floods. Yesterday, my DH & I went to Broadway to see Wicked (it was great) Coming home we saw the water from the Hudson River flowing onto the West side Highway. Once home, for the first time we had water :scared1: My sister's family had to be rescued, from her house by boat. I am glad to escape all of this & come on the boards.

I have been clothes shopping, & I think I am just about done. I have even started to pack. LOL. I am so.....excited. Now I have to shop for my DD.

LeiLani, I have been so busy in my basement, that I haven't watched tv all day, this is the first I am hearing about the news. How sad.

I am off to watch CNN.

Good night everyone.

LeiLani...thanks for calling and getting some answers for us. Those in Virginia are certainly in my prayers.

Patricia....so glad your sister is okay, that much have been so scary!!

Does anyone know if you miss your dining time due to an excursion can you show up to the dining room anyway and just see if they are able to fit you in? Also, my reservation says main seating for dinner. Does anyone know what time this would mean?

One more thing...I'm just full of questions! If it says that your excursion is over at 5:45 is that the time it concludes or the time they have you back to the ship by?

to add to laurens questions...do you have to be on board for the lifeboat drills? I was planning on going off the ship shortly after getting on, it would stink if you had to stay. It's not like we can walk around to do the final excursions we had planned with all our luggage!
Leilani- It's so sad about virginia. I hope all turns out well. I work at a school and it's one of our biggest fears. We were talking about it all day, going over our evacuation plan etc. My thoughts are with you and all the families from virginia tech.

We send out our thoughts and prayers as well.

Main seating is the early seating, something like 6:00, 6:15,6:30 seating. They started this staggered times awhile and I'm sure of exact times. I have always been late seating and my reservation this does say late seating. This time I glad, less rushing. About the excursions, I believe its the time you are suppose to be returned to ship. I did hear a rumor the first night might be open dining which I think would be a good idea. LeiLani - If you do ask any more questions, ask what time the sailaway party would be. I heard 10 p.m.

Patricia - glad to hear your sister's family is okay. Sorry to hear about your basement also. Our thoughts and prayers are with those on the East Coast and in the North East tonight also. DD was flying home from Virginia Beach today and her 10:45am flight was cancelled. She was supposed to get in around 2:45pm today but instead she got into the airport about an hour ago. I am just waiting for her to get home.

Okay, thank you. I think most of our excursions get back around 5 so that should be fine especially since that's when we'll be back to the ship. I also second your question of when sailaway party will be.

Lauren - from what I was told today you would have the other options already mentioned. But I don't suppose it would hurt to check and see if they have an open table that you can sit at.

Main seating for dinner is at 6pm. Late seating is 8:30pm. You might see on some other thread that they have staggered dinning times but this does not apply to the Med cruises. The two dinning times are 6pm & 8:30pm.

One more thing...I'm just full of questions! If it says that your excursion is over at 5:45 is that the time it concludes or the time they have you back to the ship by?

Usually if the excursion ends at 5:45pm that is when they will have you back to the ship or pier. But you do need to keep in mind that sometimes delays do happen.

to add to laurens questions...do you have to be on board for the lifeboat drills? I was planning on going off the ship shortly after getting on, it would stink if you had to stay. It's not like we can walk around to do the final excursions we had planned with all our luggage!

Steph - from what I understand DCL realizes that they will have cruisers on excursions or just off the ship since you can leave once you check-in so as long as they know you are not on the ship everything is okay. DCL should know who is or is not on board because you have to scan your KTTW when you embark and then if you get off you will have to scan it again so it will show you have left the ship. Maybe we'll learn more from the 1st 11 day cruise. We'll have to post lots of questions on their thread once they take off.;)

Linda - I will try and double check the time for the sailaway party the next time I call, but I have also heard 10pm.
