I did the 5K last June on the Eastern and our start time was approximately 10:20 am. It's because of the late arrival time at CC.

It does eat up quite a bit of the CC day on this particular itinerary.

I'm not worried about losing a little more time...I'm worried about the heat ;)

I'm not worried about losing a little more time...I'm worried about the heat ;)

The heat about did me in and we were there the first week of June. I had prepared for it in Denver and was doing 5k in about twenty eight minutes. I am a very casual runner. On CC day with little breeze or shade, it was challenging. I barely finished in under 30. I made a comment about it in our meet thread and two more experienced runners said it was a difficult 5K because of the heat and humidity in the late morning. They said they'd run longer runs that were "easier".

Plus the water they give you tastes nasty. If I did it again I'd carry bottled water from the ship.

I'm glad I did it and would encourage anyone to do it, but I won't do it again as it takes up a big chunk of the day and it was quite a warm run.

I'm sorry if I missed this information somewhere, but do people going on the Bernard's excursion have an idea of what time we would expect to return to the ship? The latest pirate makeover I was able to get for my son is at 4:45, and I am curious whether I should keep that appointment.

Thank you! Wow, am I getting excited!:cheer2:

Your 4:45pm should be good. I believe that tour starts at 9am and is six hours that should put us back on ship by 3pm. 4newtocruise will know the exact times.

I think I accidentally deleted betsy918's info from the Google doc. I opened it on my iPad and when I touched the screen to scroll down, it highlighted her row. I hit cancel, but it cleared the row. Sorry! ...darn iPad!

Thanks! That's what I was guessing, so it's good to have someone else confirm what I was thinking.

I don't have exact times but I thought we are scheduled for the tour at 10:00am. The tour is a maximum of 6 hours. I could make it an earlier start time (9:00?) at the groups request. Hope that helps. :)

Hello Everyone,

We just booked this cruise and are super excited. We'd like to participate in the FE! We have seven people and two cabins; we're booked GTY so no number yet. I hope it's not too late to sign up for the FE! We're also excited by the 5k discussions; haven't done the CC one yet.

Anyway, here are the people participating in the FE:

Victoria and DD Judea (celebrating her 10th birthday on the cruise on 6/17)
(Me) Angela, DH Rob, and DD Annabel; Rob and I will be celebrating our anniversary on 6/17 as well. And Father's Day, of course! This will be Victoria and Judea's first cruise!

Anyway, I'll start combing through this thread; if someone could direct me to FE's and other events, I'd very much appreciate it.

Thawing out in Chicago,

Neriberi (Angela)

Welcome Angela! So glad to have another running buddy :)
My daughter, Ava (8), will be glad to see some more girls in the group!

I went back in today and copied Betsy918's info back into the fe doc from my roll call doc. All that I have is DIS handle, names & ages, and email. I don't think she ever filled in her stateroom.

Welcome aboard from the mother of one of the many ten year olds on this cruise! Mine is a boy, though. Check the first post for all info about fe and other stuff. If you're on facebook, there's a link there for our facebook group. Submit a request, and I'll add you on there. How old is your daughter?

I keep going back and forth about the 5k. I really want to run it, but I keep reading reports that you don't actually get to start running until 10:30 or 10:45. That's awfully late, considering we're back onboard at 4:30. I'm torn. :confused3

Hi...I deleted myself. It was getting to be too large a group for us, so we opted out. I've only done them on the smaller ships, and I think the max we ever had was 18. Decided 30 cabins on a ship this large was going to be too much for us to do it justice. Hope everyone else has fun with it!

I'm actually hoping for a split, if the numbers as of now are accurate. When the group is too big, it is too much financially.

I have a friend who will probably be joining us on the cruise. They will want to join the fe as well. A split might be better.

Out of curiosity, why do some prefer smaller FE groups?

The reason I ask is that I've been involved with FE groups on 4 out of our 6 cruises with group sizes ranging from 15 to 125. Honestly, the larger groups were more fun because the entire meet group seemed more united before, during and after the cruise.

Cost/time have never been an issue for us either. On the FE with 125, we purchased customized pens with our DIS meet group name, the cruise dates and itinerary on the pen. We still have a few in our pen drawer at home. It only cost us about $60 for 400 pens as we gave one to each person in the stateroom. I know some spend more per stateroom and others spend less. It didn't matter how much anyone spent as the entire meet thread was united. And as far as time to deliver the gifts, that's never been an issue. Granted, on the cruise with 125 members, we had 7 sea days and delivered gifts on 2 separate days. It was fun to walk each hall and see all of the different and creative FE and door decorations. We did it last year on the Fantasy with about 25 participants and we were able to deliver them all in under an hour.

YMMV, but just some food for thought when deciding what to do.

I think of the meet group as separate from the FE group. In my six cruises, I've met many wonderful people from the disboards/Facebook groups because we arranged to meet, have our kids meet, etc..this had nothing to do with whether everyone was participating in the FE exchange or not. I love that our group is getting larger, and am especially excited about getting to know those doing the Bernard's tour. But toting gifts to and from this many people takes a lot of space, time, and money. I'll put my FE on our fish, just because it helps us find our door faster, and I'll bring daily trinkets for my daughter to find in it. I just dont have the wherewithall to take on an FE group this large, but am still really looking forward to meeting everyone.
