June 10, 2012 Dream 5-Night Double-Dip

baddog576: me (Piya), DH, DS 5, DD 2 (3 in July)

I just spent the last hour+ reading all 19 pages of this thread... I'm so excited, we just booked this cruise today. My DH turns 40 on June 9 and we had been trying to figure out what to do. We just did our first DCL cruise on the Magic last month for spring break and had a blast and booked the Fantasy for July 2013 (for my 40th) but that is so far away.

We got a special Verandah pricing so I won't get my stateroom assignment for a while. Will that be a problem for doing the FE? I plan to research that now as I saw them on my last cruise but don't know much about them or what kind of gifts or how much to spend on them. I'm sure that will take another few hours to wade through all the posts!

For those thinking of going to Star Wars weekend, we went last year and had a blast. We are all SW fans and are going again May 18th. Don't miss the SW Hoopla at night. That was a good show!

I plan on running the Castaway 5K on both days. I don't run very fast so it's not too hard although maybe in June it will be too hot. We'll see, I liked the Mickey medal they gave us last month. :)

Piya

Hey Piya--I'm planning on running the Castaway Cay 5k on the first day. Maybe we should start a roll call for that! I think there are a few others that said they were planning on running it.

That's a good idea! I don't know if they do it both days or just one of them. I definitely plan on running (slow). We will have to drop our kids off at Scuttle's Cove just before the run.

Hello everyone! I lucked upon this site from researching online all things Disney related and was in awe of all the information available. My eyes are burning from being fixated on my computer reading thread after thread. I'm still navigating my way throughout and figuring out things here and there (like the abbreviations). Silly me, had no clue what all the DD, DH, DW, etc. was all about! Anyway, myself and DD16 will be sailing on our FIRST ever cruise! We are so excited and so ready for a fun, relaxing vacation. I definitely need one.

:cheer2:

Welcome to the DIS!! What part of Texas are you from?

Well I just found out we can't go to SW weekend. My daughter has a soccer tournament the 9&10 so we will be skipping one day. Driving down the morning of the 10th. Then she plays a tournament in the Orlando area the 16-17 so maybe we will hit SW weekend on the evening of the 15th. I need to see if it is still going on.

Welcome to the group, baddog576 and TexasPrincess73!!

It looks like we have 25 families that have checked in on this thread, plus a few more that signed up on the FE thread that I haven't seen on this thread, so by my guestimate we have about 30 DISer families on our cruise! WOOHOO! (please let me know if I have missed anyone in the roll call on page 1).

Our FE signup has officially closed this week. There are 16 families participating. :cool1:

Thanks for the welcome MissDaisy!

I am also planning on running it during one of the days. My husband will do it the other day.. :) Do you think there would be any problem with pushing a stroller during the run?? If not, we can both do it both days.. :)

I think that would be fine. I would just let runners get ahead of you then go. You'll probably pass me as I'm really slow. It's not an official timed event but they do have a timer clock that gets started but you have to look at it when you're done to know your time. No timing chips or anything. :)

I'm not sure how old your child is but Scuttle's Cove is open where you can drop the kids off and do your run. That's what we did and picked them up after we changed.

I'm running it on the first day as well.... Count me in! :) Sis in law is too (ngneer98), so count her in too!

Hi--would someone like to volunteer to organize our DIS board meetup on the cruise? It would involve picking a time/location, communicating it, and showing up to greet others. It seems like on other cruises the meetup has been on the first day, around 3 p.m. or so. Not to say that's when ours has to be.

Thanks!

Thanks.. I have 3 children (ages 7,5, and 2). My 2 oldest will be in Scuttle's Cove.. they actually love it and despise the thought of spending more than half a day with us at Castaway.. However, Kate is too young.. :( I was hoping it wouldn't be an issue, but I know that strollers are typically no-nos in all the races I've done before...

This is more of a fun run. I think you'd be fine having the baby in a stroller as long as you wait for the 10-15 runners go before you. Like I said before, you'll probably pass me!

FYI - The Atlantis *Shallow* Water Dolphin encounter just opened up and I was able to book DH, DS (5) and myself for this. I'm so excited as both that and Blue Lagoon had been sold out.

Does anyone know if DD (2y11m) will be able to join us? The Blue Lagoon one said we would have been able to and she would been FREE with a paid adult. :) I can't find info for the Atlantis one. I really hope she can join us.

If anyone notices Blue Lagoon Shallow Water open up please let me know. I've been checking weekly.

Hi All - I wanted to let you know as of yesterday there were a few openings that came up on the Blue Lagoon Dolphin Encounter - I was waiting for it to open and just ended up booking the Seal Lion Encounter at Atlantis directly through the hotel - but did see (of course right after I booked the other excursion) that the Blue Lagoon option became available.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

This is the one I really wanted since it's cheaper and I know i can take DD who won't be 3 yet. So glad we can do something the whole family can do together. Thanks again!

Baddog - I have done both the Blue Lagoon Encounter, and Blue Lagoon swim - loved them both - was on a business trip (can't really say it was a work trip since it was to Atlantis!) and we did the Deep Water Dolphin swim at Atlantis and I liked the encounter at Blue Lagoon better that the deep water swim at Atlantis - so you are making a great choice!!! Have fun! I would even do the Sea Lion Encounter at Blue Lagoon but they have a minimum age requirement and Atlantis' age requirement is much lower!!!

Good to hear! I did read reviews and BL was my first choice for the experience and cost, plus I knew I can take DD for free with us. She will be so thrilled. Looking forward to spending time on the beach too afterwards. :)

Thanks again!

Hear ye Hear ye!!!

The Facebook group for our cruise has decided on a DIS group meet-up time and place.

When: The first day, Sunday, June 10

Time: 4:15ish p.m., immediately after the lifeboat drill and before the sail away party.

Where: Deck 12, near the top of the Mickey slide

The group decided that this would be the best time & place to meet, because earlier in the day there are DVC things going on and other things going on. So come to the meeting place as soon as your lifeboat drill is over and we'll hang out and watch the sail away party together!

What's everybody doing in Nassau? We never booked any excursions and had planned to just stay on the boat, but now I'm thinking we should at least get OFF the boat while we're there......anybody know of something we could do??:thumbsup2
