Jun 3, 2011 Disney Dream

We are excited to be going on the Dream---June 3,2011---I'm ready to go now!!!Hope to meet you all there!!! My husband and boys all think that I am nuts for planning all of this so early.

Okay, there has been some interest in getting together a fish extender for this cruise. I am happy to head this up, just let me know what you think. I figure that we should start by starting to compile a list of everyone so far and add to it as the thread hopefully grows. I did not start this thread, so I am not able to post all of this in the first post.

I thought that this would be a good starting point. Please feel free to put what you want and to add anything to it!! I will keep it compiled and post an updated list every so often. I thought that this info might inspire some of us to meet up to do stuff. As we get closer to cruise time we can set up a time and place to meet once on board to say HI! I am thinking of setting a deadline a for fish extender participation. Maybe after the 75 day mark?

If you have questions about Fish Extenders please post away and we will try to answer them. We can make our own set of guidelines for the cruise.

Princessduck-can you explain what a fish extender is? Thanks! :confused3

What is a Fish Extender, you may ask. Hopefully the following will help.

The following is borrowed from the DIS DCL FAQ - Fish Extenders

Fish Extenders - FE 101 Basics, FE Info, Directions to make a no-sew FE

The following explanation is from a fellow Diser, GoofyIsAsGoofyDoes:
A Fish Extender Primer

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So just what exactly is a “fish” and just why does it need “extending”? Well… The “fish” is a combination wall decoration/ornament and message clip that is attached to the wall outside every cabin on the Magic & Wonder. The CMs (that’s “Cast Members” for the newbies) use them to leave messages, official forms or invitations for the occupants of the cabin as needed. It’s kind of like a glorified fridge-magnet and it looks like this: (click on the image to enlarge)

A “Fish Extender” is any thing that you care to hang on the fish. Literally anything will qualify, but in general, they are usually some type pocket organizer similar to a shoe caddy or mail organizer. They can be as simple as a canvass bag or as complex as your imagination cares to stretch. Here are a couple from our last cruise: (click to enlarge)

We’re are not very good with a needle and thread, so we engineered ours out of a couple of small cotton bags, a Disney themed bandana and some chain from a light fixture and ended up with this variation on the idea: (click to enlarge)

So, what’s it for? Well… It’s become a kind of “Secret Santa” game played by the folks who roam the DIS Boards. The idea is that every DIS Member who is on the same cruise will go around the ship and leave a little “nick-nack” or “whats-it” in the pouches for the other members that are playing along. The generally agreed rules are that you give out gifts to each participant once per cruise, and that the gifts should be very inexpensive trinkets that either fit a cruise or holiday theme and/or show off a little taste of who you are or the place that you call home. Here’s a link to a continuing thread on the boards that discusses the subject at length:

I really hope everyone is going to participate in the Fish Extender. I have already started on my gifts. :thumbsup2

I am so excited. This will be our first cruise ever. I have been reading everything I can about the DCL and have gathered a lot of info.

I haven't posted much over here because we are still trying to decide if we are going on the Panama Cruise trip in addition to this one. DH and I (yes DH as well) are super excited about sailing the Dream. DH says we cruise DCL too much :sad2:. Is this really such a thing?

Hello all! We just booked this 2011 cruise on our 7/30 trip. It was a wonderful trip that might be our last on the Wonder and therefore a little sad, so to cheer us up, we booked the Dream. We had a small, but super group on this last trip who met the first day and exchanged fish extender gifts. Definitely want to sign up for that again!

Welcome aboard :cheer2::cheer2:

Every time I check in to see if there's anything new posted, I see the description of your husband being a Marine with a fanny-pack and I get a chuckle! You seem to be pretty in the know, so can I ask if you've seen that they will have the same space/set-up for FE on the Dream. I am hoping so as we only used ours twice and my Mom spent hours and hours on it. Just wondering... I'll look on the main board when I have a chance to see if this tidbit is there.

Thanks PrincessDuck for Heading the Fe.

We Had a great time on our last Disney Cruise with the FE.
MY DW Spent some relaxing time making the Fish Extenders for each Cabin.
kids and I had fun making the gifts.
Once on the the ship we had a great time going around and dropping the secret gifts and were very surprised every time we found something dropped in ours.
It made the sailing very special.
We still have some of the gifts(Non Edible) and Had enjoyed others( Edible Kind!!!).

Thanks

Waiting to hear from TA......

We will be changing to the June 7 cruise in order to take advantage of the Free Dining the week before. :cloud9:

I hope you will all have fun.

We are booked and excited ! 1st time cruisers. Me, wife, dd15, ds11, dd 8. We are a 4c verandah, don't know the cabin # yet. Going to spend a few days afterwards at Universal to see the World of Harry Potter as well as the rest of the park. We have never been there. Killing 2 birds with one stone and I can't wait !

We booked this yesterday as our very first cruise. We had help deciding on this one by some friends that are going with us with their kiddos. They have been on several cruises and cruise lines and we picked their brains and decided DCL would be best for all our kids.

Being so close (relatively speaking) to departure, of course there were no inside staterooms left, so we had to get a class 5B room (room 8552) and our friends got room 8548. Maybe we will try to get inside staterooms for a 2012 cruise when they release those cruise dates - since we now know you have to book very early to avoid the big $$ cabins. :)

We are AP holders (this was our first year to try the AP) and they expire on June 3rd, 2011. Therefore, we will be flying in a few days early to take advantage of APs before the cruise.

Here is the data for us:
