Jumping the Poly ship (construction anxiety)

We are staying there in August(earlier in the month of), and are just going to make the best of it. Still debating what longhouse to choose. It is myself, my husband and our teenager, so, we shouldn't have major sleep disruptions like a younger child would.

We have wanted to stay for years, and this year worked for us for a Disney vacation, as we only only every 2-3 years, and this might be the last for a very long time. We love the deluxes and have stayed WL previously, and enjoyed it, but the two others in our party wanted to try the Poly. While the GF is beautiful, it does give off the stuffy feel to me, though I am sure it isn't. With our room discount with the military, a standard view at the Poly, makes it affordable for us.

We are just going to go for it!

Good luck with what you decide.

We are planning to stay at the Poly this summer, and I too was a little worried about the construction at first but I think I am just going to go with it. I was able to get a discount that made it affordable for us and I have always wanted to stay there so I am going to give it a try. If it's horrible I'll ask to switch to another resort when we get there.

That being said, a vacation is supposed to be relaxing. If worrying about construction is giving you anxiety I say definitely switch. You can always save the Poly for next time. Even if next time is far away, it will still be something to look forward too. And you are right, you can still walk or monorail over from GF and visit for tonga toast or trader sams or whatever.
Good Luck!

FWIW, I have friends who just stayed at the Poly last week and they had no complaints about the construction. These are seasoned WDW folks who have stayed at most of the deluxe ones and were concerned about the Poly. They were also dealing with accessibility issues and had no problems whatsoever. They were in the longhouse which starts with an R. Raratonga maybe?

I chose to ditch WL last year during pool construction for AKL and was VERY glad for my decision. My whole neighborhood is in a construction zone - I sure wasn't flying to Florida for that! So I'd say look at the pictures and decide what you think will work best for you.

For a once in a decade trip, I would stop worrying about Poly construction and stay at GF. I've stayed at Poly 3 times and absolutely love it, but we have not been back to stay since the major construction started. We have visited several times during the construction including a trip to Trader Sam's and Lilo's Playhouse in April. We also had a bungalow booked for November which I cancelled when they announced the construction at the quiet pool. I just don't want to risk the possible noise, construction sights and inconvenience. WDW vacations are too expensive to run the risk. Though there are many reports of people not being bothered, there are also many reports of people who are bothered by the construction. I don't know which one I will be, so why run the risk! We just stayed 4 nights at GF in February and it was fantastic. The rooms have been recently rehabbed and they looked brand new. Service was impeccable and the resort was gorgeous. Stop worrying, switch your reservation and enjoy a resort that already went through it's major construction and rehab!

Why not price out Club Level at the Beach Club to compare to GF? The rooms have recently been renovated and are beautiful! Stormalong Bay is so much fun for the kids! We haven't stayed at Poly, but we visited in March to dine at Kona. I just think the construction takes away from the experience at Poly at the moment. I'd wait to do Poly when construction is done. My DH loved the food and convenience of CL at BC when we stayed in Dec. That's our family favorite now. We have DS age 4 and DD age 10.

I originally had us booked at BC. Then all the sudden a Poly showed up, with the RO discount....so I jumped on it. Only to freak out all night, didn't sleep. Tried and tried to get BC back for 3 days. Finally this morning BC showed back as avail..so I switched back. I love the Poly, and it wasn't just the monorail disruption or the construction possibility, but also MK closes very early during September so we will be spending our evenings in World Showcase....which is a 5 min walk from BC. I am sad about not staying at Poly, but I will save that for a split stay in the future!

A few months back we went to the poly for breakfast and I was stunned how much of a mess it was. In my book I wouldn't stay there for more than 30 cents on the dollar. Even when fully operational we have had better stays at the CR then the poly hands down.

Thanks everybody for your input! To all those recommending going back to the Beach Club, I really can't wait to stay there again....someday. But honestly SAB is kind of a downer when it come to my little kids, I envision a lot of crossing the walkway to get the the little slide and kiddie pool area. I know my dd (almost 3 at the time of the trip) will love the newer splash areas at the other resorts.

But...I bit the bullet, abandoned ship, and booked at the Grand Floridian. I can hardly believe it, I am SO excited :)

Meggers628: I think you made the right choice!! If I had a 3 year old, SAB could be a nightmare!!! It would be OK if they only played in the sandy bottom area, but the back and forth for the slide....not fun for mom.

GF is such a beautiful resort, you will be very happy there.
