Hi To All,

I have been lurking on this board for a long time but I am now jumping in. I just purchased a Canon S5 and I am trying to learn how to use it. I'm the type of person that needs someone to show me how, so I am finding it a little hard to follow the instruction books. The reason I went with the S5 was for the larger LCD and no other reason.

Thanks to this forum's info I was able to pick up the camera at Best Buys at the beginning of last week.

I only hope to be able to take the kind of pictures I see posted on this forum.

Arlene:)

Welcome, Arlene!:wave2: Glad to have you with us!

I think you might be the first one here with an S5, so be sure to post your pictures as you learn the camera. The S5 sounds very similar to the S3 that I and a lot of others have, so be sure to check out the S3 thread - I'm sure there are some tips that will work on your camera, too.

Wow.. You're going to have some jealous people! The good news is the S5 is going to be very close to any other Canon camera, especially the S2 & S3. If you need someone to show you how to use some of the functions, it should be pretty easy..

One idea would be to look for a photography club or class at a tech school!

I'm still loving my S2, and would love an S5!

get busy posting so you can post photos:lmao: ;)

yeah - what she said!

Welcome to the forum - you will LOVE it here. Some of the nicest people I have ever met on a discussion forum.

Hi,

Thanks for your well wishes. I have been playing with the camera but I don't have anything that I would want to post yet.

My biggest problem is not being afraid of the camera. I don't want to break or hurt it (I was the same with my kids).

I haven't really used a more complicated camera in a long while. My last camera was a Canon PowerShot S400. I haven't used my SLR A1 for many years, too heavy and too hard to focus through the viewfinder, but a great camera that took great pictures. I know if I could use the A1 I will get the hang of the S5.

:welcome: I agree with DVC Jen there are some great people here.. :)

Can't wait to see pictures with the S5!!!
We were going to get a new camera a couple of months ago and Dh backed out...;)
Then I saw info on the S5, hoping to see if he'll let me upgrade from the S2 :teeth: !

I've been lurking for a while too and just jumped in yesterday with my first photo post. Welcome, Arlene. I'm glad not to be the only newbie. :D

Welcome to you both Arlene and Suburbanmom!
I am still learning my S3 Canon, so I'm very much the novice! I look forward to seeing your photos from the S5 Arlene. I bought the online guide for the
S3 (A short course). I am getting through it - it might be helpful for the S5 as well..?? Maybe someone more versed in these matters could help you there, but if the camera features are similar it may help you.

Hey Suburbanmom :)

I grew up not far from you - just north in Mercer county. I have a sister who lives in Dayton and a brother in Tipp City. Welcome :goodvibes

Thanks to all the welcomes. This has been a chaotic weekend and I have't been able to work/play with the camera.

I hope to get a chance during the week after work.

Special Hey to Suburbanmom glad there is someone new too.

Arlene
