jump starting labor..

I heard the eating Chinese food tip also and tried it... 3 hours later, I was in labor.

Hmmmm, power of suggestion or power of the chow mein?:scratchin

I've heard playtime with hubby will do the trick too.

I was told the same thing about DH helping things along. Between that and taking some really long walks I was able to motivate my first DD into joining us. Oh, and for the walks, we would go to Sams Club or Costco and I would walk the cart around every aisle. It was fun and air conditioned - very important in Phoenix and Austin!!

I think I have tried all of those, including the Christmas tree one, lol! Nothing worked for last 3 and I had to be induced with them. Yuck, piggyback contractions!

While I never tried cod liver oil or an entire box of mac and cheese, I have 4 kids and we did try everything else (including DH) and NONE of these worked for me. My first 3 were all late, and DD #4 came on the due date. I was never induced, my doctor did not believe in doing it if me and the kid were doing okay, and thankfully we always were. I had 4 BIG healthy babies, and only the first labor was long and tough. If I were you I would relax and let God chose the baby's birthday!! JMHO, and I know not many agree with me. Good luck, and let us know how things go.

Another cod liver oil user here. DS was going to be induced if we didn't have him on his own. I was having alot of little contractions on and off for about a week, it just didn't evolve into anything. After the midwife said I may have to be induced I mixed about 2 teaspoons of cod liver oil into some chocolate milk and 1/2 hour later I was in labor!

While I do agree with what laceemouse said about Gods timing, I was having this baby at home with a midwife and I really didn't want to go to the hospital and be induced. My first 3 were no trouble at all. One even came a little early. This one was just stubborn...still is actually! LOL

I would say if you don't want to be induced, try the other methods.

Yes, I have heard that your DH can help jumpstart things too; but it won't happen if your body isn't ready. We tried it both times and it didn't work either time. Walking does help, and I like the example of walking through Costco in the A/C! Smart! plus you can kinda lean on the buggy if you get tired.

And right now they (costco) have those awesome Carter's sleeping bag sleepers for only $6.99! I feel like I need to grab one just for the heck of it! To either store for a baby shower gift or to keep in case we get lucky this month or next with our baby #3 goal. :p

Well, without getting too descriptive, your "husband" does contain prostaglandins, which help to soften the cervix. And, "completion" on YOUR part (I really hope you know what I mean, if not, PM me! LOL!!) releases oxytocin, which causes contraction, BUT if your body is not ready, labor will NOT happen.
Good luck!

Ok, since 6_Time_Momma already put this here, I'll just agree. It worked for me with both my babies:blush:

my personal favorite so far is Chinese food...yummy...I could go for some right now!
Well, I went to the doctor today and zip zero nada is happening with my cervix. My actual due date is Sat., and the concern in my situation is that I am at the ancient age of almost 42 years old. Apparently, statistically that puts me at higher risk of things going badly in the end. But dr says I'm fine, so hes not gonna rush it just yet, and he'll check me again Fri. Both my other kids were late, but they were born 10 and 20 years ago. I thought maybe my body was over that by now. I wish I was in a more romantic mood, then I might approach DH, but this beached whale feeling is not an aphrodisiac, let me tell you! Thanks for all your well wishes, I'm feeling like I really need them! Eileen
