looking for personal experiences here. Is it true that dh can help "jump start"" my labor? I am not really up for that, but if I thought it would really work I'd give it a go. I think my dr is planning on inducing if things don't start on their own pretty soon. Thanks!

I have heard of a couple items the jumpstart the labor. One is the dr can help by 'breaking the membrane'...I think that is what it is called but I could be incorrect. Another I have heard is a pedicure with an ankle massage.

But I've heard people tell of eating Chinese Food with MSG doing the trick!

Good Luck!

I've heard that a couple can get things going (labor!!!), so it may be worth it to give it a try.
A woman at my dd's preschool made a laxative milkshake (yes, true), to start her labor, which worked, but there is no way I would go that route!:earseek:

Go shopping!! Lots of walking can generate labor. The day before my ds was born I went shopping at the outlets with my sister all day and then went to bell choir rehearsal. While playing "The Alleluia Chorus" my water broke!!! It was only a slight tear that didn't generate too much water leakage (only when I bent over, etc.), but it got me to the hospital. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough though. I had a good night's sleep, had a shower in the am, and then the dr started the pitocin to induce labor (was induced with first one). The only thing with my water breaking first was that there was no momentum. With my first son I was induced and after things were progressing well the dr broke my water and my labor really took off. Not so with ds#2.

My sister had an Independence Day baby boy last Sunday at 1:24 (he WASN'T coming out any sooner - was face up & caused much back labor pain). I was her labor coach (with her husband also at her side, but only there to hold her hand). Her 4 yo daughter cut the umbilical cord!! She was a pro, having watched "Baby Live", etc. almost daily for the past several months.

Praying that things go well!

Well, without getting too descriptive, your "husband" does contain prostaglandins, which help to soften the cervix. And, "completion" on YOUR part (I really hope you know what I mean, if not, PM me! LOL!!) releases oxytocin, which causes contraction, BUT if your body is not ready, labor will NOT happen.
Good luck!

A big spaghetti and meatball dinner did it for me! ;)

Some things my nurse friends have done that helped but I would not advice is to ride a bike, walk around the block at a fast pace and hot foods.

The laxative thing might backfire, we do advise pregnant women to avoid laxative for that very reason but the consequences might be unpleasant.

Good luck.

With DD #3, I had a massage...then went into labor 4 hours later! Not only did it jump start the labor, but I was so relaxed from the massage...that the pain was managable throughout the labor!

A local radio personality swears this works:

Philips Phile Surefire Birth Recipe

(Directions must be followed exactly)

1. The pregnant mother MUST be past her due date.

2. The father* of the unborn child MUST purchase a newbox of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese (the original elbows with the powdered cheese in the blue box), and a bottle of A-1 Steak Sauce.

3. The father* MUST make the entire box of Mac. & Cheese while the mom-to-be sits on her butt (umm I changed the wording there, he used another word).

4. The mother can add as much or as little (the more, the better) A1 Steak Sauce to the Mac. & Cheese.

5. The mother MUST eat as much of the Mac. & Cheese as she can, preferably the entire box.

6. The proud father* should start packing the bags and warming up the car because mom will be in labor within 24 hours.

7. Send us a picture of the rug-rat.

* Note: Any male figure will do if the father is in prison or in the witness protection program.

The surefire recipe is guaranteed to work, (at least 9 out of 10 times) And if it doesn't, it means YOU screwed it up!

It was probably just good timing, but the chinese food thing worked for me. However to be on the safe side I would combine that with lots of walking!!!!!!!!!

Spoken from experience, your DH could play a part in inducing labor! :earseek: My youngest was due in mid-August and...........ah.................due to circumstances...................attempted to arrive on the 4th of July! They did manage to stop labor and ironically, she was born on July 26th, DH's birthday!! :D Talk about 'placing an order' for your birthday present!! :daisy:

Yes, it is true (what Kristy says). I didn't *get* to try that, DD came a few days early.

There's a way to induce pitocin in your body, but I like Kristy's oxytocin example better.::yes::

I have heard that cod liver oil will do the trick. It is tough to swallow, but a friend of mine from Scotland says it is used widely over there to jump start labor. She did it with both PG's.

Yes, it's true you and your DH can do certain things to jump start labor. It might not work for everyone.

If you're not up for what I think you are suggesting, you really don't have to do that to jump start the labor.

There are other things your DH can do that might really work.

;) I guess you have to PM me if you want to know what I am talking about.

Well, what worked for me was some "alone time" with my husband. A day later and my DS was brought into this world.

So I do think it helps. I also hear spicy food helps too!

My OB told me that my husband would help labor to begin by my due date. My daughter was born exactly 2 weeks early so I guess it worked! Also, I ran 2 miles each of the 2 days before she was born (I had been running about a mile a day before that) so that probably helped too.

I took all the Christmas ornaments off the tree, took the Christmas tree and tossed it out the door, then vacuumed the needles...labor started that day, 2 weeks early.
