July versus August

Hey all,

now this may sound silly but I want to know the difference between staying at Disney in July versus August. We stay onsite (where else would we stay...lol) and usually book it for when the "free dining" offer happens toward the middle to end. We were thinking about doing July but if the crowds are just as bad or worse than August we may as well keep the August booking.

Is there "technically" LESS rain in July than August??
No free dine so LESS crowded?
More extended park hours?
More conventions come in?
Just some thoughts to ponder...............I'm sure others will chime in.

We went in July of 2008 and August of 2009. Our July trip was during the last week of the month, while August was the 2nd week (just prior to free dining).

I would do August again in a heartbeat; July, never again due to the tour groups. They were everywhere. I think the day we were at DHS in July I counted 10 tour groups. The day we were in MK wanting to see Spectro and Wishes, they had already lined up on Main Street 2.5 hours ahead of time. It was constant congestion. I've never been to WDW during free dining, so I can't compare the two crowd wise. I just know that the 2nd week of August was much more enjoyable for us than July of the previous year.

IMHO I would choose August. Please be aware this is just my opinion. There are other board members that go every July and seem to like that time of the year (for example, the week of the fourth of July).

Even with free dining August is less crowded than July. We go every August.

Lots of schools go back early-mid August .

Absolutely August. Have been during Free Dining, and the crowds were the lowest we've ever experienced. July is one of the few months when I haven't been. A colleague of mine described a trip during July where he said you litterally could not move for all the people in the MK.

Thats right.. tour groups...

I was thinking about July instead of the usual end of August next year but I think I will stick to August.
