So my wife and I are taking our son for his first trip to Disneyland this July. Didn't even realize when I made the reservation that the first day we are there is the 17th. What should we be expecting for crowds on that day and for the week. Once we realized it was the anniversary we were concerned about crowds and when we should make sure we are in the park. We now think it would be great to be there during the anniversary and feel it is a little more special that it will be our son's first visit. Are we being to sentimental and would it be better not to use a park day on the 17th.

Im not really an expert but this isnt like a milestone anniversary so I dont think it would be too bad especially since they are celebrating last years birthday til September

Exactly. :)

That day is a Sunday, during the summer, so expect a plethora of people. Couple that with Disneyland's birthday that will add even more bodies into the parks.
I visited last year in July, even though I swore I would not ever do so in the summer lol. Anyway, it wasn't the 17th.
Disneyland had especially good business that day. I was pleasantly surprised tho at how horribly crowded it was not. And the weather was not nasty. Of course in the morning as usual, the park attendance isn't nearly as high as it will be later in the morning and particularly by the afternoon and beyond.
I suggest being there at rope drop and getting FP and doing SRL when stand by isn't fee and clear or may not be.
Enjoy your time there. If crowds begin to get on your last nerve, then perhaps visit DCA or visit DtD, have lunch or visit Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar. Tell Sam I sent you. ;) Tasty food and drink to find there. It's a real cool and fun place to be.
Another option for dealing with crowds is to take a nice rest back at your hotel. Then returning during the evening.

Enjoy!

Have no idea why the font is two different sizes......again! Lol. :faint:

We will be there the same time and were planning on that being a park day, thought we would take Saturday off instead. Hope its not anymore crowded than a Sunday in July!

We were there on the 17th for the 57th and thought it was pretty nutty crowds wise. So it was not a milestone but very busy. We went again in July two years later and purposefully avoided that day. But no disrespect to those who go specifically to honour this day. We love Disneyland. We just want to visit when crowds aren't overwhelming and we found that day was. Up to you whether it's a sentimental day for your family or not.

We have been there on other non-milestone birthdays and it was a bit crowded but I didn't think it was too bad. We are missing it this year by a day due to travel, but weekends seem to always be busier.
