Howdy all! I am new to the group. I am running in the Disney World half in January with my Hubby and best friend. We are all from Houston, TX, and right now I have missed a week worth of runs because of this nasty rain sweeping across Texas. Can't wait to have the great support of this group and provide what ever support I can.

Hi All (sorry this got a little long)

Luggagelady- Welcome to the group.

Carrie - Congratulation on the Tri

Jim - Here's hoping the weather breaks for you. Hot here up north so I can't imagine how bad it is down there. Although We've had about 3 cooler days this week.

Amanda- I hope you are feeling better. My dad had food poisoning one time and it took him a few weeks to get over it. But he wasn't good at trying to control the symptoms early on and ended up also getting dehydrated.

Boy it's been a long and at times worrisome couple of weeks. As you might remember, on June 16th I started taking blood pressure medicine. The good news is that the meds have seems to regulate my blood pressure pretty well. Other than at the Doctors, my blood pressure has been 104 to 120 / 60 to 84.

As for the worrisome part, that Monday and Tuesday, I had some discomfort in the Sternum and Shoulder that would come and go. Tuesday after work, even though I wasn't feeling anything at the time, I decided to go to the ER and get it checked out. Over the next 4 hours, I had an EKG machine hooked up, chest x-ray, and a pair of blood tests for cardiac enzymes. All of the results came back negative. They kept my most of that time because of wanting to run the second blood test 3 hours after the first one as the cardiac enzymes can had a couple of hours after a heart attack to show up in the blood. The ER Doctor recommended I contact my family doctor to get a stress test run to make sure it wasn't something activity related.

I went to my family doctor a week ago Friday and He told me to take a baby asprin as a preventative measure and scheduled my stress test at the hospital for the past Wednesday. I went to the hospital on Wednesday and so far the results look good. I had the stress test where they injected the radioactive dye into my vains and take a scan of my heart. Then did the treadmill test where they injected dye again. Finally, they took another scan of the heart. The cardiologist said the EKG during the treadmill test looked good. And right now, all I have left is a followup appointment with the family doctor to review the findings of the heart scans.

At this point, I'm fairly sure It's not the heart even with results of the heart scan still out (you would think if it was something real serious someone would have contacted me by now). So, for the past week or so, every little twinge would have me thinking is it the heart or is it nothing. But in doing that, I noticed for example the discomfort in my shoulder, which was bad again this Tuesday, started in the top of the shoulder and not the chest part of the should. I'm left handed and was teaching for 8 hours and for at least the first 6 I was writing on the board all the time. On top of that, I'm carrying around a book bag that is heavy, and when I lay down and watch TV it on the left hand side (which I was doing because the doctor told me to rest). So, I'm thinking it really is something with the shoulder and the discomfort would come and go with certain positions. The stuff in the center of the chest I am wonder if it was just something like acid reflux agrivated even further because of the worrying. Since Tuesday/Wednesday I've been feeling alot better. And yesterday worked out, slowly for the first time since this all began. I did 3 miles average about 17:00 mile and my max heart rate was only about 120bpm (at the stress test the goal was 153). The last time prior to the was when I did relay for life on June 18th.

My biggest take home is when it come to the heart don't mess around. Nobody has made me feel like I was wasting their time. When I told the ER doc I wasn't having any pain right then his reply was that's Ok that's what were hear for. I'm sure he was thinking It better for you to come in even if it's nothing than to ignore it and it end up being a something major. At the hospital, the techs in cardiology said that this stress test would provide a good baseline of cardiac ability of the endurance training I've been doing if it didn't find anything wrong.

In other news, my weight got down to 303 with some of that was not feeling like eating for a couple of days. I'm back up to 305 which is still a bigger weight loss than I've been having.

I'm sorry for the scare Jeremy! Sending lots of healthy vibes and prayers!!!

Amanda

Can we have your name so I can add you to the list?

Hi all Warriors and a Happy 4th of July

Luggage Lady welcome to the Warriors

Jeremy - glad that the medical issues are getting under control

My husband(John VN) and myself just finished our first official week of training of the 14 week program. On Tuesday and Friday we did a walk with some quick sprints for me. Today we did our Sunday walk. We did a 3 miler but I kept up an average pace of 17.37.:cool1: Than the rains came. I left hoping to miss the rain at 5:45 AM. John left earlier this morning and before getting with me had in 13.1 miles. Then he walked additional miles with me and his average was 13.54:banana:

I can now tell my own average. I purchased the new forerunner 110 and the Fit 2 Run took back my FR60 to my surprise. It was just great they did this for me.

Hope everyone else is doing well

Kathy

Hi All

Kathy - Good luck on your program

I just got back from the Dr. and everything from the stress test was good. He's put me on Prilosec because he thinks it might be acid related. The blood test came back and the only thing out of the ordinary there was high cholestorol. The over all was a little high at 245 but the LDL was 191. He wants me to take Fish Oil and watch my diet and see if we can get it down naturally over the next three months before putting me on prescription medication. He would also like to see me lose another 10 lbs in that time.

This weekend was beautiful and I ended up getting out walking both Saturday and Sunday. I did three miles each time. My pace was slow but I havent done much working out for 2 weeks and I've heard that's a possible temporary side effect of the licinipril I'm taking for High Blood Pressure.

This week is supposed to be the first week of training for the Columbus Half Marathon in October. It's supposed to be terribly hot all this week with highs in the 90's and low's in the 70's. I haven't officially signed up for Colubus yet and I still have until the end of the month before the price goes up.

Thanks again for all your prayers and good thoughts during all of this.

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July!

Welcome LuggageLady!

Jeremy - I'm glad everything turned out to be okay!

Kathy - WTG with the miles!

I got in a nice 16 mile bike ride on Saturday & 6 mile run and another bike ride on Sunday. The weather was beautiful! I need to cross train on my bike a little more, I was a little saddle sore from Saturdays ride.

Have a great week!

Devon Welcome to the wonderfullist team in the whole WISHy world!!! (i'm not at all biased and yet wonderfullist is definitely a word!).

Jeremy so pleased to hear your tests went well, can't imagine how scary doing those examinations must have been. Great work again for the weight loss.

Kathy You and your husband are doing amazingly! Great work, especially with that super early start!

Me did a long run 8miles on the treadmill in sunday because of wind and rain- although wish I hadn't because they'd turned the air con off!!!! hmm not pretty. This morning, up to do my speed work around our triangular green again- managed 4 lots of the longest sprints this time so getting there. Bit snowed under with uni work, but i'll try to keep up :)

Welcome Devon good luck on your program having people to "talk" to really helps!
Jeremy~ glad everything is ok and your work back to some workouts!

Things here have been slow- turning 55 mid June seems to have reminded my body of all the years I didn't take care of it and I've been plagued with minor issues- pulled hamstings one week- cramps in my calf so bad the next it's taken 3 weeks to feel better.
and I did something to the wrist I broke a few years ago (scrubbing the floor of all things) that has made it feel very week (so far I'm just wearing a brace for my classes I may have to do planks/push-up type moves in) and slowly it's starting to not bother me as much.

I'm running less distance right now than I would normally being until the calf feels 100% again. I should be on week 3 for the Fort4fitness race in Sept but will got 2-3 miles today (indoors because of heat/humidity) depending on how the calf feels.

I hope the rest of you have been having a better training time than I have.

Sorry for the whining!

I did sign DD#2 and I up to be a team for the Princess in Feb since I won't be at the WDW Marathon weekend this year!

Hi everyone, I'm new! My name is Sarah and I'm planning to run the WDW half in January, as well as the Athens GA half in October. The decision to run the WDW half was what got me back into running mode for the first time since my kids were born (DS 4.5 and DD 1.5). Prior to kids, I had run several 10-milers but these will be my first half-marathons. In January, one of my friends mentioned on Twitter that she registered for the WDW Goofy, and it started all the gears turning in my head. I figured, if I had 11.5 months to plan, even a slacker like me could get ready for a half-marathon! ;)

So, I'm taking it slow and steady, and I think I'm going to get there. (Pretty much, my entire running style ever has been slow and steady - but whatever gets me to the finish line!) The bonus is, if I can do our hilly local course in October, I think WDW will not be a problem.

I'm looking forward to having a team to share the journey! :cheer2:

Happy HOT July Warriors!!

Been gone a while.

Training is difficult due to the heat. Went on a cruise last week. Managed to get 8.4 miles in on board + about a 1500 m open water swim. Ship lost power for almost 5 hours the last day at sea. No water, electricity, a/c, bathrooms, etc.. The crew very graciously set out water and lemonade to drink. In 1 place. On a 850' long ship. Anywhere else ya' had to pay. Very nice. Not.

Needless to say, probably my 1st & last Carnival cruise. I am officially a DCL snob & proud of it.

Put in 4.5 mile run yesterday morn & a 23 mile ride in the afternoon. My goal is 19 mph under all conditions. Got a bit of a way to go yet. I have to get out of the "comfortable" frame of mind & into the "train & push" frame of mind. I am trying to be more conscious of my RPE.

You all are doing great!! Keep it up!

Next up for me - the DL 1/2 in Sept & the Wine & Dine 1/2 in October. See ya there??

Early Good Morning to everyone. Pretty sure as I type this you-all are snoozing.:rotfl2:

Welcome Devon and Sarah. Jeremy-:thumbsup2 Great support group here.

81 degrees right now according to weather channel and I am getting ready to start my birthday ride. 2 miles for every year=120 miles :cool1::cool1:today. After about 60/70 miles on my own I'll hook-up with a group of guys that I can pace behind for 40 miles to make things a little easier then finish up on my own.

Kathy and I did a quick walk before dinner last night and she did great! Another longer walk tomorrow early AM before the sun comes up.

Well, I have the pb&j, banana, dark chocolate chips, raisins, nuts and water ready to go so out the garage door we go. BTW, lights and helmet are on:).

Have a great day everyone.

Welcome Sarah and Devon!
John - Happy Birthday!!!!

I'm struggling in this heat! We've had several days with 100+ temperatures and some black-outs due to excess energy consumption in our area. Not conducive to training! I feel like it's not possible to drink enough water to keep up.
Probably good training for our August trip to Disney though.... :lmao:

Amanda

Hi All

Amanda: Hopefully the heat will break soon. We had it hot here in Ohio but not that hot. The last couple of days the heat has started to break. It was 60 outside when I started working out at 8:00 this morning. The highs today are supposed to only get into the low 80's

John: Good Luck on your ride and Happy Birthday.

Jim: That's pretty lousy of Carnival Cruise Lines. I hope the rest of your trip was good.

Sarah: Welcome: Are you going to follow a training plan for the 1/2 or do something on your own?

Pam: I hope your pains are subsiding. This early in a training plan you can hopefully make up the distance quickly.

Katie: Glad to hear it continuing to go well dispite the weather.

AFM: Either the Prilosec or time is taking care of the pain in the center of the chest. They are not nearly as often or as painful. I actually started running again today. I'm looking at doing the Marathoning for Mortals Walk/Run Plan with 2 extra weeks added to the end because it worked so well last time. I did the 8 repeats of 3 minutes walking and 1 minute running with about a 1/2 mile warmup and finishing 3 total miles with the cool down. Not counting warm up and cool down, my walking pace was 15:40 (just about my 1/2 marathon pace) and my running was at a 13:02 Pace. For a combined 14:58 min. mile. I'm about a 1/2 a week behind where I was wanting to be at this point (today should have been my first long 3 mile walk/run) and today's workout should have been Wednesdays. I will probably to my long walk/run Monday morning and then start back on the schedule. I'm still tentatively training for the half at the Columbus Marathon in October. The price jumps $10 on August 1st so I have a little bit on time to decide if I want to do it, and if I want to sign up as a walker or a runner.

John - Happy BD!! I can only dream of doing a 120 mile ride. Hopefully I'll be there someday................. :-)

Amanda - I hear ya' with the heat. It's just brutal here. It's ok in the shade. If you are not moving. Otherwise it's sweat city.

Nothing yesterday due to the heat. Over 100º locally, with high humidity.

At work today, but hoping to go out of service for a while to get a long ocean swim in.

Hey all you sweaty guys! So sorry the heat's uncomfortable, hope it does ease off for you all.

Marcia I missed you when posted last time, :( great work getting your bike rides and cross training time in. Hmm i know the bottom pain..... spinning!

Pam :woohoo: for signing up to the princess half- you'll have an amazing time with DD. Take it easy - it's much easier to make up time now than be injured in the run.

hey Sarah welcome to the warriors- you've got some brilliant races planned and we'll be here to cheer every step of the way!

Jim that is shocking that for the ENTIRE boat they had 1 drink stop! Man! You still had a wonderful cruise though right? Well given the heat and your advice- i hope you're sitting in the shade... very stilll! :rotfl:

John happy birthday!!!! 120 miles?. in one go? as a birthday treat? What do you have to do if you've been badly behaved?!?!?!

me went to running club on thurs and was a bit shocked that with 2 new members the main leader decided to do a 6.57 mile route!!!! The new ones walked a lot of it, but were very proud of their achievement. I just hope it wasn't too much! Got out to do my long run this morning 8.5miles, nice breeze going today which was lovely. Head down, essay time again!
