July 9th 2005 - West Coast Cruise.

I am cruising with my DS8 (I already picked up some of the lingo) and DH40. This will be our second Disney Cruise. We did the land and sea last August. I promise that if I find out anything about the cruise I will let you all know. I have a friend who works for ABC so I am going to try and pick her brain. Don't know if she will know anything but maybe...I also used to know someone who worked at Disneyland. Its been ages but I think I still have a number floating around.

As for the question about the beach, Huntington Beach is fairly close by. Its not the "in" beach, that would be Newport but that's farther away.

What is this I am reading about some lime green Mickey card at Home Depot or Lowe's??? I was trying to explain what I had read to my DH and he gave me a look so I think I wasn't explaining it right.

I think I am going to like it here. I have seen lots of really good info. I wish that I had found this last year before our first cruise.

By the way, my name is Lori.

Lori welcome to ... what ever this is.

To explain the "mickey heads" tell dh this,
Disney has a line of paint that is sold at Home Depot the color chips are in the shape of Mickey's head . Lime green is the color used by people on the DIS boards so we can spot each other at things like this cruise, or a day at the parks.

Anyway again welcome and hope to see you on the Cruise

Welcome aboard Lori!

Happy Saturday everyone. Hope you have a good weekend. We're supposed to finally have some good weather.

Welcome SWCruiser!!! Glad to have you on Board!

Val -- sorry to hear you are still in tile limbo! I am still waiting on my bar! I am begining to think the cabinet maker is cutting down the trees himself!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Well it is another rainy weekend in Maryland -- although they are predicting sun and temps in the 70s for the workweek -- yea!!!!

Hey guys - a lot has happened since we decided to go up to Hershey, PA for a couple of days!!! Welcome to Lori, it is a GREAT name by the way!!! I'm all paid in full, so I'll be booking our one DCL excursion next weekend. I'll also continue bothering my TA trying to get me some sort of room assignment, and someone on deck 8 prefereably..... I'm not holding out too much hope until after the 60 day mark, since I know a lot of people have until then to pay off their balance. We booked after DCL changed the rules, so we had to pay our balance off by mid April.

Welcome Lori! I have a DD who will be 8 next month, so your DS and My DD will be in the same group. We live in Santa Clarita.

Chris (Soccerdad-Chris) has a list he has compiled with all our individual information so you should PM him to get it.

This is a fun group of people. We're all going to have a great time on this cruise!

Karen

Hey Lori (jelo511) -
Some people don't have to pay off the cruise until the 60 day mark? :confused3 Then how come we have to pay off ours next week? Sara, oh great Moderator, any ideas?

I've seen the paint chips at Home Depot. I think getting t shirts that same lime green color would make us all very easy to spot. I saw this on our last DIS cruise and it was cute. Just a silly idea. What do you do with the paint chips anyway - pin them to your shirt?

Sorry to hear about the rain in Maryland. I won't brag about the :sunny: and warm temps here then (oops :rotfl: )

:earseek: CALLING ALL OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE PLANNERS:
You must check out post #7129 on the May14, 2005/14 day Panama Canal "cruise meets" !( I think this link will work ... http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=561746&page=1&pp=15 These people are or-gan-ized! Lists of who is doing what (and what time) for each port and a bunch of other cool looking stuff. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm having a very hard time keeping track of who the "happy horse" people are, etc.

Any OCP's want a challenge? :rolleyes1

Cheri - I look at that thread every once in a while. It's pretty scary, huh. I've decided that that cruise is going to be at least 50% DIS people. They're doing scrapbooking classes and a scrapbook exchange. I wanna play! Oh well, we have a fun group too and we're going to have a great time.

Acutally, I do know the answer to this question (more because I do a lot of reading about Disney than because I'm a moderator, per se). Sometime last summer, after we put down our deposit for this cruise (we don't have to pay til 5/10/05), Disney changed it's final payment terms to 75 days, to bring it more in line with the rest of the cruise industry.

That doesn't make it any easier to come up with the money next week, but it does give you a reason.

Sara

Lori (SWcruiser)...I have a DD who will be 8 on the cruise, so she will be in the same group with your DS and Karen's DD. Does your daughter go to school in Heritage? My DH does a lot of substitute teaching there...maybe he's subbed in her classroom!

Karen...after going over some of the navigators with DD, I think we've decided that she likes the activities in her own age group (8-9's) rather than the 5-7's group...so she'll be in the same group with your DD. Now that DS has started preschool, I think he'll do OK in a group on his own.

Soccermom-Cheri...the lime green t-shirts would be cute. Did they wear them to a certain DIS event (like our brunch or party) or when they got on the ship? We have really cute personalized family Disney shirts that we were going to wear when we first get onboard.

Sarangel...our final payment is 5/10/05 too, since we booked last May before the change went into effect. But I paid it off last week !!!! :cool1: :cool1:

Hey...I thought I had read on this thread before (though it could have been another thread!) that one of you or a few of you had used the LL Bean Boat and Tote bags before. I'd appreciate advice from anyone who has used them. Here's the deal...

I'm looking into ordering one or two...but I'm not sure about the sizes. I want a big one to use as a beach tote to carry towels, snorkel gear, etc. for the family, and thought the extra large might be good for that. But I want a smaller one (but not too small) to use when we go to the pool (not just the DCL pool, but any pool in the future!) for coverups, pool floaties/toys, towels, etc...would the large one be good for that, or would the medium be better?

If none of you know what I'm talking about, I must be crazy  and must have heard or read this somewhere completely different!

Lori (jel0511)...I remember Hershey, PA. We lived in PA from the time I was in 1st grade to 4th grade...my dad was stationed there for the USMC. I LOVED Hershey Park and remember a little about Dorney Park as well. I loved the snow in PA when I was little, but I don't think I'd like it much now that I'd have to get to work and run errands in it! ;) DH keeps talking about moving out of CA, but I don't know if I could actually handle the weather anywhere else! :sunny:

Kim,
My son goes to Upland Christian but if he went to public he would be in West Heritage. It just made more sense since I work with the kindergarten thing a few years back, it was cheaper than straight day care. We fell in love with the school. I work that way so it works.

Lori (swcruiser),

My daughter goes to Western Christian! And DS goes to First United Methodist Church of Upland preschool...right across Euclid from Upland Christian! What a small world!! :flower:

Good morning everyone!!! Is everyone tired from that one hour sleep deprivation!!! I know I am!!

Kim - We have the Extra large Beach and Boat tote from LL Bean. It is HUGE and is GREAT to hold towels, snorkle gear, etc. If you really need to tote 4 towels to a pool, with other items, I'd still suggest the extra large size. I don't think the large size would work with 4 beach towels and other items. I love mine!!!!

Cheri - it seems like Sara answered your question, but she did forget one thing. Those booked in category 3 or above have to pay off their balances 90 days in advance, and since you and Chris are in a cat 3, this is why your balance is due next week. This was also part of the new rules that went into effect last summer.

So, tomorrow is the end of Spring Break here and it's back to business as usual.... Bummer!!!!

Sheila,
That group is scrapbooking? Now I like my pictures, grommets, tags and the hundreds of others things I have for my books, but I wanna play outside .... And, you're right. We're gonna have just as much fun. I do kinda like the lists of who's doin' what though. Anyone want to throw a quick web site together and compile the info? :cool1: pretty please ? Chris will buy you another sailaway :rolleyes1

Thanks for the "payment" info, Sara and Lori. Are there any other new rules I should know about? :confused3 Is the diet Coke still free? That would be a major bummer

 I  am  so  ready !!!

I agree, I would never give up my valuable time on a 7 day cruise, but on a 14 days cruise with lots of sea days other activities would be welcomed.

And I agree with this too!!!

I was surprised at the number of pages they had! Imagine if Chris had set that as our goal!!!

I agree that we will have just as much fun -- and perhaps relax more! Besides -- how do they pack for two weeks and scrapbooking!! I know I have a large suitcase for my scrapbooking stuff and would not want to waste my suitcase allowance on bringing it!!

Hopefully they will be as organized with the trip reports!
