Pre-trip WDW/USF/IOA July 2003

Cast:
Me—over 40, Disney lover goes 3-4 times per year; like USF/IOA and ready for this trip
DH-over 40, SWEARS it will be 5 years before he goes to Disney after our trip in December (said the same in Jan. 2002...5 years before he’ll go again—maybe math isn’t his strong suit???); likes USF/IOA better
DSis-under 40 over 30, SHE STARTED IT
DBIL-over 40, not as free with his money as I am (with his money)
DBIL’sDB-over 40 (I think) known him for 15 years but not sure of his age, never been to USF/IOA (oohhh goody—fresh meat!!!!)

JUNE 2003: It’s a Sunday. I’m feeling lazy. Just chillin and watching Travel Channel on the tube. I see a show where they do some USF/IOA stuff about the roller coasters. Whine a little to DH when he passes by. See another show about USF/IOA. Whine a bit more to DH. DSis calls. “What can you tell me about Fastpass?” HUH? In the middle of my explanation (which is very detailed and full of vital information) she interrupts and says ‘What is it at Universal?” Umm….okay—I go into a not so detailed explanation and end with “I’ve only heard HOW it works for most people--we stay onsite and use the FOTL for onsite guests”. Seems DSis got in a mood, went surfing on the internet and booked a package for her, DBIL and DBIL’s DB for July 10 – 13. They will fly in the night of July 10, do Universal July 11, IOA July 12 and fly out July 13. Just a nice long weekend.

I am REALLY WHINING NOW!!!!!!!

So I say to my DH—why don’t I take Thursday and Friday off, drive down and spend the weekend with them? Of course, I would NEVER do USF/IOA without staying onsite so I call Universal and get the cheapest room rate I can find--$110.00 at the Royal Pacific for Friday. Fine, sign me up. While you’re at it book a room for them too. (They are gonna love FOTL!!!) (Staying other nights using hotel points for free rooms)

THEN THE GAME BEGINS:
Looking at the calendar I realize that Friday is DH’s regular off Friday. “Honey, why don’t you take Thursday off and go with me?” After overcoming objections: heat, vacation time, etc. he agrees to go. YIPPEE!!!!! This works out well—if DBIL’sDB is a thrill seeker he can ride with DH since I can’t. And if he isn’t, then DSis and DBIL don’t have to worry about him being alone while they ride, he can keep me company. So we make plans to leave Thursday morning and arrive around 3:00 pm.

A few weeks pass and I say to DH, ‘You know. I have some things to do at Disney on Thursday. Why don’t we leave Wednesday night so we can spend all day Thursday in the Disney Area?” he hedges (and he who hesitates is lost!!!) and my final piece de la resistance “You know you might not be able to do Typhoon Lagoon in December—you could spend all dya Thursday there” I’VE GOT HIM!!! Yes we are now leaving Wednesday after work.

A few more days pass. “Honey, I was just thinking…(which translates to you’ve got trouble)…if I pick you up after work at 4:00 pm then we have to drive ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE CITY (Atlanta) IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. We’ll be on the road until midnight or later. Wouldn’t it be easier to leave at lunch?” His response --after several heart stopping moments----‘yes—but that’s it. No earlier.” YIPPIEE—I got a full day and a quarter at Disney added to my USF/IOA weekend!!!!!

The girls at work say I played him.…..I say he let me play him. Do I really care? NO—I’m going to Disney World (and USF/IOA).
