I'm not is the same situation, but if I were to go to another country with my daughters, taking a cruise would be the way I would go. Multiple places to see without renting a car, taking the train.... I haven't explored all of the options that DCL is offering for port excursions, but I've seen the excursions that drop you off and let you explore for a set amount of time, that don't cost much. Plus each place we are going has great websites so you can plan places to go. No matter if you do a port on your own or with DCL, other people from the cruise will always be around! I think the more you plan and read about a place, the more comfortable you will be!

I think the more you plan and read about a place, the more comfortable you will be!

You can also get the ship's number in case you get lost, delayed, etc and they won't leave without you. Might cost money for a cell phone but you can purchase a VodoFone before you leave and put their number in it. For emergencies that is, if that would make you more comfortable. Guided tours are good too. That way you are with other DCL'ers and with a tour guide. I would do it in a heart beat and just be aware of your surroundings, locking your room door at night with the extra locks and being aware of who is at your door as if you were in a hotel. We have never had any problems on DCL or with shore excursions. You can also look for other single mom's going and plan outings if that makes you comfortable, but then you might run into a scheduling issue and feeling pressured to do something you aren't interested in for the sake of not being alone with your daughter. You will be fine and the cruise line is very good about safety. You may even talk to the customer service folks when you leave the ship and where you are going if you aren't taking a DCL excursion.

My lovely husband surprised us with a cruise booking for Christmas, so we'll be joining you for Greece & Venice.

This will be our 6th Disney cruise (so finally gold castaway!). We're from Australia, so it's a bit of a trek to get to Venice, but we're going to stop in Dubai to break the trip up.

We will definitely join the FE. We took part in our first exchange this autumn on the Fantasy and loved it. Have requested to join the FB group too. Sorry about the user name I have never got around to joining for myself so always use my DH's log in. We are a family of 4 from the UK, DH and 2 DD who will be 10 and 7 when we sail. We are in Brisbane, Queensland. It's the middle of summer here right now, so Christmas Day was spent in the pool! Glad to hear you enjoyed your visit here - there's still so much of my own country I've yet to see.

We are coming from the states and we have been reading the Rick Steve's travel books. He is a really practical and funny author. We are thinking that since in time is so limited at some of the ports, we need to have a real good handle on what we want to see before looking at excursions. Our airfare is not booked but we do know what flights we want to take, so we are just waiting for the price to come down a bit. Welcome to all who had this cruise gifted for Christmas. We did for my brother last year for an Alaskan cruise and he said recently that was one of his best Christmas presents ever. We are starting to get real excited

I booked this cruise for my DD and I...but I'm having second thoughts and I am afraid of doing it by myself... We'll be flying out of Florida

If you're crazy then I must be too, my DD will turn 11 during the cruise and it's just the two of us. This is our 3rd DCL cruise. Our first was in summer 2010 Med cruise, which got us hooked. Taking this one because we didn't get to Venice last time.

DD is also a Percy Jackson fan and excited about Greece.

Just learned about FEs. Would like to join if I can figure out how to pack everything I want to, and FE presents too!

Can you be more specific in how they are wrong? I know autocorrect gets me some times. And doing this in iPhone doesn't always give me best view. I may have abbreviated too on long ID's too since you can't insert a nice neat excel table like I wish. ��
