July 4th Week or Week After?

We have avoided the summer figuring it would be hot and very crowded. We've been going in October and it has been well... hot and very crowded, so maybe we should just do summer instead.

Do you think there will be any discernible difference between the 1st and 2nd weeks of July? I figure the 4th might be a bit more crowded than the 11th. Anything we should know or take into consideration in picking between the 2 weeks?

I went one day this past July. It was very hot but not very crowded. We had a great time. It was less crowded than the days we've visited in October.

Last summer the D23 expo was sometime in the middle of July...it may have been the 12th? I’m not sure about the date. I think that may affect crowds if they do the expo in July again. I haven’t been on the fourth, but I’ve been in the park up to July 3rd and the crowds didn’t get heavier close to the 4th. I personally can’t say about the 4th, but I’ve read on the boards it isn’t too bad for crowds.

We always go between during those two weeks. It is always hit or miss for us. We try not to go on weekends or Mondays. This past summer we went the first day of D23 and the park was pretty empty because everyone was there. We also always get hoppers so we can leave one park if it gets too busy. We also used MaxPass which got us on all of the rides.

From what I've read in the past, the D23 Expo happens every other year. I scanned the list of upcoming 2018 D23 events and the expo isn't listed, so it seems to reinforce the idea that the next one will be in 2019.
