July 4th trip--CS only?

OK, so I am a crazy disney planner like the rest of you and never go during holidays and always have my ADRs the minute I can book them. Well, DH found out he can only take vacation 4th of July week. I was lucky to get a room at OKW, but now I'm wondering about meals.

We have done the dining plan the last few trips, but we are seriously considering only counter service meals this trip. Restaurants will be crowded, we'll be a little overheated, and I expect we'll spend the bulk of every day near a pool or in a waterpark.

Have any of you done this? Will I miss the restaurants? We go at least once a year so this isn't the trip of a lifetime or anything. I'm just nervous about wandering around wondering where to eat every day.

I guess if it's 100 degrees we won't be that hungry anyway.

I have done this. Whenever we are going for just a 3-4 day break and there isn't the time I can put into like I do for the annual 2 week trip, we jsut do CS. If I were going for one week, I might do the same, especially if it is a super crowded time of year and I wasn't planning for my trip to take place during that time-making ADR's difficult to come by. If I were you I'd feel out the possibilities before commiting to the DDP. Make a phone call and see if places you traditionally enjoy have openings that suit your time preferences. If not I'd plan to be spontaneous for the majority of the trip with one or two TS's off the beaten path for lunches--Try LTT for lunch, Kona is nice for lunch as well, a bit of a break from the heat and crowds, etc. You will not hate it if you do just CS, it is just different. Kind of fun in a way to be completely spontaneous.
