July 28, 2007 - Romeancing the Mouse in the Med Cruise Reunion thread!

Wicked is spectacular, so you can't go wrong with that. Let me look into what it would cost depending on where you sit, and get back with you about prices.

The theatre is beautiful! Thx for looking into this!

Thank you so much for doing this Julie.

I am so excited about this holiday - I have to make some hard decisions medically these next couple of months and its great to have some thing positive to focus on.

I really appreciate it

Thankyou:hug:

Hi all,

Thanks for your well wishes it means alot.

Julie suggested doing this http://www.spiritofnewyork.com/ny/di...d=dinnercruise

Dave and I are thinking about doing this on the Saturday night. I am really excited about this trip.

Julie if the aboard time is 6.30pm could you give us some advice on what time to leave the hotel and how best to get there thanks?

Could you guys let us know some ideas of everyday prices -We are only used to WDW and I take it that food and drinks are expensive there -How much is a starbucks grande capachino for example? Also transport -

Sorry for all the questions - hope you don't mind.
Thanks:grouphug:

The dinner and dancing cruise (Spirit of New York) is at Chelsea Piers, which is notoriously hard to get to via public transportation (you would either have to take a subway then a bus, or two buses)--therefore, I would recommend you take a taxi. There is a taxi stand there as well for getting one back when you return. A taxi from your hotel to Chelsea Piers on a Saturday night will probably run you about $12 plus tip (so $14-15), maybe a little more if you have trouble with theater district traffic. I wouldn't leave any later than 5:30 -- maybe 5:15, since even once you get to Chelsea Piers you have to find your dock, and that place is fairly large and confusing for even people like me that have been there many times (in addition to boat slips -- several -- there are bowling alleys, a gymnastics and sports center, an ice rink, private party areas, etc., etc.).

As for the cost of of a starbucks grande cappuchino, about $4.25 or so. Venti is closer to $5. The costs of food and drink in general really depend on where you go - there are fantastic places that don't cost much, but most places catering mainly to tourists overcharge quite a bit.

I see you also asked about transport -- a Metro card, bought from machines at any subway stop, can be filled with $20 (plus $3 bonus) or $40 ($6 bonus) or really any amount without the bonuses . . . then you use it for buses and subways ($2 per ride, with free transfers between lines). Taxis really depend on where you are going and the traffic situation. My favorite way to get around whenever you can is free -- walking!

I looked into tickets for Wicked for our date in July . . . basically, if we spring for the top price ($126.50 per ticket) we could get very good orchestra seats in row K -- I'm assuming no one wants the $300 VIP seats! That price is also for all of the first mezzanine, and the first half of the second (top) mezzanine. Then there are several upper rows in the second mezz that are $91.50, and the very top two rows are only $66.50. Now, I will say this -- I think if we get tickets soon, we should either get the $126.50 ones and sit in a good spot in the orchestra, or go for the least expensive and sit in the top two rows for half the price -- the middle price just isn't worth it, I don't think. I can't guarantee that when I go to get tickets, I could get 9 or however many we end up wanting at that price, but I could try if you wanted. I have seen the show 4 or 5 times, and have sat in the top two rows as well as close up in the orchestra -- they are different experiences, but both good. I do think regardless that we should decide and get a final number ASAP, though, since the summer is a big tourist time and Wicked is still very popular.

Think about it, Helen, and let me know!

Thanks for doing the research Julie! I'll go with either ticket. It's up to Helen. Tom & I will be in WDW until Sat. so if you need to make the decision, don't wait for us. Then just PM me with how much and your address to send you a check.

How exciting!! This makes it feel real!! :yay: :yay:

My opinion is that this show should be seen in the orchestra if possible. The colors of the theatre are best experienced there. Please, Helen, let us know what you guys want to do! Thx Jul for checking into this!:goodvibes

Thank you so much for doing this - any seats are fine with us. As Joann said the orchestra ones would be fab.

Do you have a paypal account Julie so I could send you the money that way?

I agree I think we should get this booked asap.

Helen x

Well, first we should check with Sallie and Jimmie to see if they can make it -- we have 7 confirmed at this point but I don't want to get the tickets just to find out that we left Sallie out!

Helen, if you can, I would like to you just send me a close approximation of the cost of the tickets in pounds (in cash) -- I have to take my oldest daughter to the UK in June to look at colleges and it would get great to have a little money when I get off the plane. We can work out the details once we have the tickets . . .

No problem we can work that out.

I have emailed Sallie this morning to tell her about this and that she should contact you .

Which colleges are you looking at?

Hey Julie, I can actually pay in person next Saturday! How cool is that? This is going to be fun, I can't believe we're this close to it. I remember when Helen first said she was coming to the states............I think it was two years prior..........looking forward to seeing you, Helen!:goodvibes

Hi Guys I had an emails back from Sallie - She is not going to get the wicked tickets as she is visiting Izzi this summer and they are not sure when they get back.

She did say to keep her up to date with our plans as she would like to meet us if possible - ie if we go for a meal etc.

Yes Joann this trip has been 2 yrs in the making!

It's a week from Saturday -- the 28th -- right???? But you are right -- you and Maryann could just pay me then! I will probably go to the box office this week and get our tickets.

I think we are planning to eat before the matinee on that Sunday -- or was it afterwards???? Too bad Sallie can't come to the show, but I hope she can see you while you are in the city.

So, just to confirm -- 7 tickets, right? Helen, JoAnn, Maryann, plus 3 husbands, plus me -- correct?
