July 28, 2007 - "Rome-ancing the Mouse Cruisers" -11 days! Part 3

I so wish I had been on that cruise! I was with the group of people who were waiting in San Pedro the first time the Magic came into port. I got pics of it in the distance, and then went down to Ports O' Call & heard the greeting & saw everyone standing there. I did take some pics, & posted them on whatever thread was going on at the time. :)

The 2005 E/bound repo was a really great cruise and my best holiday ( vaction) ever, thats why I am booked up again for 2008.

Passport Watch -- I keep forgetting to answer this -- I just made it up. It just means that I am on watch for the passports to come in. I wish there was something that would track passports - like FedEx.

Holy Cow! I've done something like that before. I was supposed to meet a fellow DISer @ Disneyland, and when we came down to it I was too shy to go up & meet her. Can't believe I did that!!

Anyway...

Here's some pics of the San Pedro Harbor & a map that shows where it is in conjunction to the airports & Disneyland:

Here's a pic that I took of Bill, Tracy, Jenn, & Peter, and then later the Magic as it leaves port.

Looks like the other pics disappeared, so I'll put them here, if you don't mind:

This is taken from a vista point near Pt. Fermin, looking south. The Magic is getting ready to pass through the breakwater.

I remeber so many people waving us off in their lime green dress! it was so good, and nice to see again today.

I know I said I'd be away for a bit I've popped in today because I need to chill. I've had another bad day today.. I must say Andrew's toilet paper form made me roar with laughter:lmao: :lmao:

Spent last night in Eastbourne at the hospital, we had a call that my aunt was going down fast so we drove there 2 hours, she died in the early hours of the morning, it was quite distressing she had decided she wanted to go, she has been a diabetic for 46 years and she decided to no longer have her insulin she refused all interventions except pain relief and she stopped eating and drinking, she didn't die easily and I was pretty shaken...............sorry if this is a bit graphic but thanks for listening.
2 more days to Ofsted another 2 and they will have gone!!!!!:woohoo:

I am very sorry for your loss and glad in a small way to have cheered you up for a few seconds during this difficult time.

Well, I hadn't expected to visit here at all for the next few days (no chance at the 10,000) - as I'm up at Evergreen Lodge in Yosemite for a wedding. Haven't been here for a while - I should have known things have changed. In addition to the obligatory old games, jigsaw puzzles and hiking/nature magazines, the recreation room has wireless.

Now, I was a good boy, and left my laptop at home. But darn if they didn't also have three public terminals, so here I am. Of course, you're only supposed to use them for 20 minutes at a stretch, and the connection speed is slow, but I figure it's better to drop in now and then instead of dealing with 200+ pages on Sunday night or Monday:)

Anyway, good luck to whoever snags 10,000. Condolences to Lynn. And everyone enjoy your weekend.

Trivial pursuit is calling (how non-tech)....
Wish I was there

Ahhhh ... you're at my favorite place in the whole world! Where is evergreen lodge? Say hi to Half Dome for me. :)

It's a bit outside of the park on the road to Hetch Hetchy. Got the wedding stuff tommorow, then on Sunday I'll stop in the valley on the way home. One of the people I'm traveling with has never been there, so I get to vicariously enjoy that first experience.

Strange, I was sure by now you'd be up to 10K. I guess I'll have to leave it for Andrew to do it on his own.:)

Wish I was there

It's pretty nice - haven't been to this resort before. Very luxurious actually. There are some tent camps, some cabins, and some very nice family cabins. Nice restaurant, bar, some recreation stuff.

It's up the road from a place called Camp Mathers where there is a lake, pool, tennis, volleyball, etc. (for a nominal charge, of course).

Still, if I had my choice - I'd stay in Curry Village (which is nearly impossible during the summer without planning months ahead of time).

Good morning to you, though it's still Friday here.

Yes, I will say night soon!!

I have been there for a day trip only and it was so beautiful! Have a good one.

If you missed it elsewhere good post on Flights home:-

They have a special process for anyone with flights prior to 10 am, you can get off the boat at 6:30 am. But you have to show your itenary! They give you a special sticker, etc. My brother and his family did this, caught their early flight home, no problem. Everyone has to be off the boat by 9 am!! I dont know why you are getting such bad info!! There are a bunch of people who made early flights, they announce it during the cruise numerous times to get your pass to disembark early! Anyway, it is no big deal, would make your plane reservations for whatever time you need to, and enjoy your cruise!! (I know for some that there are no other options, either fly early or leave the next day, for people like my brother, leaving the following day was not an option, again, no problem making an early flight!!!)

Hope this helps...

Just be sure to allow plenty of time, because the airport was mass confusion. We were dropped off at Terminal A where Continental usually has it's counter. It was no where to be found. We ran through throngs of people....it was packed and no one knew ANYTHING. There was no one to help or ask questions about ANYTHING. We got bad information twice and finally found the counter in terminal B...not even labeled. Crowds were pushing their way onto the escalators to. We had to show passports and ticket to go up the escalators to get to security. THere was NO control at all. I will have to say it was scary for little people. We left the day after the cruise, and I am glad. But, even then, we had issues at the airport and probably would have missed our flight had it not been delayed.

More.................

Well since I started this thread I guess I should answer my own question now that I'm back. I was worried that our early flight (9:50AM) would be risky when I started this thread.

Some facts about our experience.

  1. We had plenty of time to catch our flight.
  2. Bags needed to be out side your cabin around 9:30PM the day before.
  3. We got stickers to wear indicating early departure guest.
  4. Had to get up at 5:00 AM to get breakfast and make the departure meeting in the night clubs.
  5. They did NOT prioritize us into early and very early so if you have very early flights before 9:30 AM then you might want to make sure you are first in line .
  6. Getting off the ship was slow. Check out and single file down the gangway with your carry-ons.
  7. The luggage was in rows in a large hall. If you need a porter then get one quickly as they did not have enough.
  8. Our bags were not in one place and it was a zoo going up and down each row to find all of them. Good Idea to personalize your bags with some bold markings.
  9. Bags went out to the busses where we picked a bus and helped the driver load the bags.
  10. Make sure you have your tips ready to go. A lot of people were fumbling around for Euros, even asking their kids if they had any left.
  11. At the airport they dropped us off about 200 meters from the terminal and there were few porters and no rental carts.
  12. if that is the case when you get there send someone to get a Porter or some rental carts while they/you unload your bags.
  13. Swiss air was really sticky with weight for both checked and carry on bags. I strongly sugest you HIDE your large and heavy carry-ons from view and fib when they ask if you have any. Security, boarding agent and flight attendants didn't pay any attention to oversize or heavy carry-ons but the check-in agent sure did.
  14. Security was typical and not too slow.
  15. Our flight may not be typical but we had to take a bus from the terminal to the plane and walk up flight stairs.
  16. Good luck

I've never been to Hetch Hetchy. I would like to go there some day, just to check it out. Lately, when we go we stay at the redwoodsinyosemite because it's easier to stay there, however, I would rather tent camp along the Merced - Lower Pine campground, maybe. We used to stay at Upper River campground every year until the floor of '97 washed it away... sigh ... I really want to go, even if it's for the weekend (done that before). Since Yosemite is so hard to get in - campingwise - we usually camp in Sequoia - love it there, too, but not as much as Yosemite.

Your Vacation begins in 34 Days

Thanks for all the tips, Andrew.

OMG! These are great! I  the balloons - did you know who was responsbile for that? I think I was still asleep when it came in.

I remember Pt Fermin - my dad used to take us there every other Sunday when we were little. We lived in Compton at the time. It was free and a way to take 6 kids and get out of the house. Course - he'd scare me half to death pretending to drive over the edge. I hate getting close to an edge to this day because of that. :sad2:

OH MJ! Thank you for sharing. Who'd of thunk that 2 yrs later - I finally get to see the Magic sail in to the West Coast for the first time? ::yes::
