Thank you, I have a rare blood 'issue' which is being investigated, the anomaly can cause problems elsewhere in the body. It investigate, I will have an investigation on my bone marrow on Monday.

This is to see why its producing blood with a anomaly in certain parts, its it causing this or reacting to something else.

Andrew praying that all will be okay on Monday. Sometimes it's good to have a diagnosis so we can start working on a solution - did I say that right?

Keep us posted and will be thinking of you/praying for good news.

Joann - again, I hope all is well with your dad :grouphug:

Julie, thanks for the great pictures. We did have a very warm day today, a bit too warm but not complaining.

I took my two youngest to see Santaland today at Macy's (the 15 year old decided she would rather sleep in!):

Nice picture, neither of mine would go to see FC, unless bribed with an X-BOX 360 or WII

But isn't the entire point of seeing Father Christmas to get the X-BOX or WII???

If they don't go ask, how does he know what to give??

Good news to those attending the Dec. 8 NYC Dismeet . . .I just read that the "Disneyland of bathrooms," the Charmin experience in Times Square, did re-open on Nov. 20! Believe me, this is a photo op tailor made for this particular group . . . we will stop there after John's and before we take a slightly more dignified photo op at the Rockefeller tree . . .:santa: :santa:

Hi all,

Joann, glad to hear your dad is doing better.

I spent the summer in Germany - but that was a long time ago -- way before the Berlin wall came down. :-) We had an exchange student from Germany & I spent the summer at her house when I graduated high school. Her parents totally spoiled me, and we spent 1 week travelling West Germany, 2 weeks in the Alps, & a weekend when Berlin was still separated by East Germany... a summer I'll never forget.

I only know the western part of Germany, but places I enjoyed visiting:

* Taking a boat down the Rhine
http://www.hhog.de/2971.html

* Rothenburg ob der Tauber (medieval town enclosed by a wall) -- nearby you can take a gondola up to a lookout that overlooks miles of vineyards & the Rhine (you can think of us when you go up -- ha ha)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rothenburg_ob_der_Tauber

* Ramsau (spent 2 weeks there in Bavaria)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramsau_bei_Berchtesgaden

* One of Ludwig's castles: Neuschwanstein (the one that WDW is modeled after), Linderhof, or Herrenchiemsee (I forget if there is another one) - but any of these are very interesting (I visited Herrenchiemsee & Linderhof)
http://www.tompgalvin.com/places/de/bayern/koenigschlosser.htm

* Berchtesgaden
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berchtesgaden
Drink Spezi

* Munich
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munich
Try the Hofbrauhaus while there - eat weiss wurst

* Salzburg, Austria (they filmed Sound of Music here & Mozart lived here)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salzburg

* Kelsteinhaus (I think it's referred to as Eagle's Nest - Hitler's retreat -- I felt odd there, but it's worth visiting)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kehlsteinhaus

* If you can, go to Bavaria & visit the Koenigsee & take the boat across (When I went, the conductor stopped & played part of a song & then we heard that whole measured echoed back from the Alps -- I can still remember the song)
http://www.ddavid.com/alongdesire/germany1.htm
http://www.salzburg-hotel.at/en-salzburg_sightseeing-lake_konigsee_berchtesgaden.shtml

* Heidelberg (make sure you visit the wine cellar & taste the wine)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heidelberg

* Lübeck up north, if you go north -- one of my favorite cities -- another medieval city & where IG Niederegger marzipan comes from (yum)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niederegger
-- and visit the Holstentor (with its torture chamber)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holstentor

* There are so many places to visit there -- I really love it.

* Black Forest (get a cuckoo clock)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Forest

* Oberammergau -- where they hold the Passion Play every 10 years (next one 2010)
http://www.oberammergau.de/ot_e/index.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oberammergau

Things to look for as souvenirs

* Hummel figurines
http://www.hummelsatadiscount.com/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hummel_figurines

* Meissen porcelain
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meissen_porcelain

* Cuckoo clocks
http://www.black-forest-shop.de/cuckoo-clocks_aol.htm
* marzipan
http://www.globalgourmet.com/destinations/germany/luebeck.html

* Wooden figurines from Oberammergau
http://www.oberammergau.de/ot_e/artsarchitecture/woodcarving.htm

* Christmas candle carousel "Christmas Pyramid"

My oldest, Elizabeth, and I were in Germany in March of 2006 . . . we were in Berlin, Leipzig, and Dresden before heading over to Prague. So we were in a vastly different part of Germany than the northern Hamburg part . . . my favorite thing was exploring small villages and towns like Potsdam (and seeing the palace San Souci nearby), Meissen, etc. And actually we loved Prague -- I don't know if you would be able to head over to the Czech republic or not, but Prague was virtually untouched by the war (unlike most of Germany, unfortunately) and beautifully medieval because of it.
