Trying to keep up:

DH is almost packed! He still has formal clothes to put in but everything else is ready. I don't pack until the night before I leave, but on this trip I'll be packing that day because we don't leave until 11:20 pm.

When you say 259, I'm assuming that's people not families. Do we know how many families?

Does anyone know how many are participating in the:

DisMeet
Fish Extenders (gift giving)
Fish Extenders (contest)
grab bag at disMeet

If we could get a count that would be great. I'll have to rethink my DisGift for the Fish extender if I have to bring 259 of something. It may have to be post cards:lmao: :lmao:

259 people would be way too much for the Promanade Lounge. Where is there on the ship that so many people can meet without disrupting other cruisers? (pardon the pun, I couldn't resist).:rolleyes1

We just got booked on the Coda Cavallo Beach excursion. We had LaCinta beach but wanted Coda Cavallo so we are happy. Now just the elusive Palo to keep trying for.

Still no room #. I like everything to be organized and finalized and not knowing is driving me crazy. I'm obsessed with checking out the DCL website about 15 times per day between the room number and Palo and the Beach excursion.

I'm sure there is more to respond to but I have to make dinner.

I keep checking my reservation too for a cabin number:rolleyes1 . I'm ready to give DCL another call, I think.

I just booked the LaCinta Beach. The Coda Cavallo was full yesterday, but I see its not today. Not sure what the difference between the two, but I think someone said the LaCinta Beach was very nice.

Looks like I'm alone here on this lonely thread by myself:scared1:

And 25 posts behind Laura:mad:
Well, thats not so bad I guess, it could be worse. Wonder where Laura was all this weekend.

Well, I can't think of anything to say. No updates on the current cruise that I can find except funnybunny's blog. I think I will go post on MrsG's post and see if anyone has done the Create your own Perfume excursion.

Ok, did that, now I'm back. Well, I need to go exercise. Be back tonight.

I also read somewhere that La Cinta beach was beautiful and they enjoyed it. We are also on this morning one.

I have been checking the webiste for early Pisa availability since Sat. morning. Nothing available for 5 of us. I have also emailed at least three private tour guides in LaSpezia. Starting to communicate with them.

I know my family does not want to be on a bus that long and we do not have to do Florence so I was going to cancel it a few minutes ago- while doing this - Pisa morning excursion became available so I grabbed it for now. I was willing to book the afternoon one - but prefer morning so I reserved.

I feel better already - I have someting and it's not 10 hours. I can relax - wether or not I decide to do a private one does not matter as much now - I am happy.

We have heard that Coda Cavallo Beach is nicer than LaCinta beach. When we were origianally booking our excursions the DCL customer service person said that Coda Cavallo was the nicest beach. The photos of Coda Cavallo looked like there might be some shade, while CodaCavallo didn't have any trees. Who knows which is better! We'll all find out when talk about it at the end of the day.

Congrats, Anna.

I'm glad you got what you wanted. It pays to be persistant!

Sandra--if Gerry is thru packing he can start rolling TP!:lmao:

We got our flights today and we fly out of JFK on the 26th at 5:20PM on Delta. Anyone else on that flight?? I was happy to see Non-stop, but return flight leaves at 10:00 am the 8th....should have had the good sense to book a day after cruise in Barcelona as well.:rolleyes1 I told DH I was going to stay up all night the last night because I never want our cruise to end anyway and this will really be bad with an early flight home!!:rotfl2:

Have more to ketchup on and we have not eaten dinner yet....that is how it is when you spend the evening at the baseball field. I had cheese fries for my dinner, but I don't think that counts!!;)

We were originally booked for Florence on your own. But decided that we didn't want to be on a bus that long. We switched to the Wine Tasting and Sarzana.

Overall we are happy with the excursions we have now. Just the elusive Palo reservations and room # to look for now.

Harole Ann,
Did you book your flights through Disney? We originally did but when we added the extra night in Barcelona Disney couldn't or wouldn't change our flights so we cancelled them through Disney and got them on our own. We saved $500. I didn't like not knowing our flights ahead of time. It's a control thing.

Cheese fries count as dinner as far as I'm concerned:thumbsup2

Sandra

Heads up:

DCL website is showing new availability for personal fitness trainers (Looks like maybe they brought on another person, cause it seems to be one spot per time slot). I was able to move mine later in the day to avoid conflict with both the Dismeet and some other stuff (great timing on posting the Navigators! Of course, they might change by then, but still...). Meanwhile, for those who wanted to do this, there are even sea-day slots available!

Congratulations on getting the excursion you were looking for. I was quite surprised this afternoon when Coda Cavallo became available.

I was willing to do the wine tasting - but two of my kids are not 21 (19 and 14).

I've been reading on the various blogs and Dis threads about excursions, and it occured to me that it's very important to consider one's own priorities in evaluating which ones to take.

Some things are clear:

  • Full day excursions are exhausitng no matter how you do it.
  • You can save money and potentially do more if you plan/reserve things on your own.
That said, I'm sticking with my DCL excursions (though I did make one switch based on the reports to date). But that's because my priorities are possibly different from that of others.
  1. I'm not trying to see as much as possible. Though this is my first visit to each of these ports, I've traveled enough to know that I can come back. The purpose of the excursions is to get a quick taste/survey of each place to help me decide which ones I want to come back to one day.
  2. I'm on vacation. If it's "exhausting" it's the wrong choice for me. So with the exception of Rome, none of the excursions are full day.
  3. I'm on vacation. If it's stressful, it's the wrong choice for me. That means I want to make as few decisions as possible - I want someone to tell me where to go and describe to me what I'm seeing in as entertaining a manner as possible. I want to know that if the bus breaks down on the way back, somebody else will be worrying about how to get me back to the ship on time.
I know I'm going to miss seeing a lot, and miss a lot of great experiences. At the same time, I figure an hour nap on deck is arguably equal to seeing yet another 500 year old cathedral.

My point in this, is I think in evaluating excursion choices, it's important to first set ones own priorities. "Best choice" really depends on one's individual perspective.

:thumbsup2
I could not have said this better myself. Perfect.

I also do not like to schedule many excursions, activities, meets, etc. because at home I am on a schedule almost every day of my life. Working part-time and always running around with children's (now just dd) activities, games, practices and appointments is very stressful. I don't want to have to be somewhere all the time while on vacation.
