Zoomommy, Chase just had to get over his fear of going under on his own. It wasn't anything I did. Last summer he took swim lessons and would get his face wet just for a second, but didn't really enjoy going under. I really think it was us going 3-4 times a week to the pool this year that did it. There's a large shallow end where he can touch bottom but still swim around if he wants to. We've always gone to the river all summer, but only on weekend afternoons. By the end of the day the kids would be more adventurous, but it was like starting over the next time we went. By going to the pool so often, it seemed like he retained more of his confidence from one visit to the next and was able to build on it rather than "start over". My oldest, Conner, pretty much did the same thing. One day he just decided he wasn't afraid to go under and from then on he's been a fish. So don't sweat it, I think they do it when they're ready. I don't think there's much you can do except to take them swimming as often as you can and encourage them.
About this weather, do we get to look forward to cool ocean breezes at least? It's been so hot here, we've been having severe thunderstorms several nights a week. DH and I are getting tired of cleaning up limbs from the yard!
Two trees and an air conditioning unit in our neighborhood got struck by lightning this week! So I guess we should be thankful we just have fallen limbs. Check ya later!
