Thanks Deb. We're so excited for our trip. We are going to Disneyland Paris for 4 nights and 3 nights in London prior to the cruise. Can't wait.

We have been to DLP a few times, we stayed at the hotel New York twice which was very good and a small walk to the parks. We got the direct Eurostar train from St Pancras.

That is super exciting! We went to DLP several years ago and had a blast. We stayed onsite and took the train into Paris to sightsee.

We spent time in London before our 2010 Baltic cruise and really enjoyed walking all over the city. This time, we plan to see some of the outlying areas. Can't wait! :)

Hello and welcome.

I live in London but your post has limited information.

Are you coming in by plane to Heathrow or Gatwick are you staying in London pre cruise?

This shows connections from Heathrow to Central London, either, Heathrow Express to Paddington- fast but expensive, comfortable ride, or Piccadilly tub line longer and cheaper more crowded.

Then to Dover.

So train is your best option to Dover from London.

The fastest route is by St Pancras in London with a direct high speed service.

The train station is Dover a Priory from there it's a short taxi ride.

You can also get there from Victoria and Charring cross in London they are stopping services and will take a bit longer, trains are not stopping at London Bridge this year so avoid.

Taxi from London direct is very expensive Your looking at £150 minimum one way and you will encounter traffic say close to London and that will take a lot longer.

Coach there is an infrequent coach service and it doesn't stop at the cruise terminal but stops in Dover town or the ferry dock, so a walk and or a taxi again it's cheaper but far longer.

This cruise meets has good cruisers Celestine and Paul who gave organised a coach from London to Dover, they may have places left.

In summary apart from the cruisers bus the best way is by train and a small taxi from Dover priory.

There is a taxi rank outside the station and its five minutes to the port.

Now shore trips.

Firstly St Petersburg.

It's important to plan here.

You cannot just walk off, one you would need a visa to just walk off and two it's in the middle of nowhere on reclaimed land.

You need to either.

Book a DCL tour.
Or
Book with an authorised agent in St Petersburg like
http://anastasia.travel/
And then there is no need for any visa.

Anastasia is cheaper than DCL either just your family or a small group, you cut lines so no 55 people held outside the Hermitage and tailored to your needs, you can add evening events so no going back to the ship post a day out then leaving again later for the evening and same guide for two days.

There are a lot of ships in each port do do plan now and book ASAP as some will sell out.

I would say on all other ports you can just walk off and go DIY but a DCL tour is better.

Copenhagen, we are there two days we dock just to the North of the city and the mermaid statue, and it's an easy walk or taxi into the city centre. The castles of North Zealand are worth going to.

Mine.

Stockholm, again we dock in the city centre, you can go DIY or book private tours such as with,
http://www.stockholmourway.com/guided-tours-stockholm/shore-excursions/

I would say avoid Stigtuna tours it's not worth it, but Vasa museum, the old city, the Royal palace and city hall and Abba museum are worth going to.

Mine.

Helsinki, there should be a shuttle to the city, but worth booking private tours or DCL tour including Porvoo and the Rock church as well as the city centre.

Tallinn it's very close to the city, an easy walk but you need a guide as its a maze and to point out watch you are seeing and explain the history.

Are very good and good value, we are there a limited time endure you get back on the ship on time.

We went on the Disney Magic in 2010 and had a great time, it's a fantastic cruise, to enjoy it to the full you must do some research time is limited in some ports.

For example before I went to St Petersburg In 2010 I didn't have a clue, there are so many misconceptions about Russia and getting off and concerns, I was do do pleased I used

http://anastasia.travel/

I found out about the fabulous places like Catherine's palace, the Amber room, and the Peteroff, They then used the hydrofoils connections that DCL have now copied but didn't use then, this saves a lot of time and Is fun.

I have added so much in on my private tour, the Faberge museum, a private canals tour, and as Anastasia had a 50% off offer for my family off four it's far far cheaper than DCL we do more see more and can change it on the day, staying longer, moving on quicker, choosing what and when we eat, and not going to places with 55 others on a bus, and having a guide speak on a whisper system.

Plan and you will enjoy it more.

Welcome! We also booked a private tour in St Petersburg with Anatasia Travel - much cheaper than DCL and getting to see much more in those 2 days.

We are planning on doing the rest on our own, but we are still researching and planning. In Copenhagen we have pre-purchased a 2 day pass for the Hop On Hop Off buses from their website and it was cheaper than the DCL excursion.

We also bought Rick Steves Northern European Cruise Ports book and that has been very helpful too.

Yes often if you do your own research and book direct you can save a lot and maybe in places not be with others.

In 2010 many cruisers on our ship went with Anastasia, we all met up in a restaurant in the Peteroff, and 100% all agreed it was the best thing we booked and the highlight of the cruise.
