What were you doing in a wet, foggy Newcastle? Fortunately we were away in Orlando and then on the Disney Fantasy. Back now cold but bright!

Sadly, an unexciting 2 week course with work. Back for a further 2 weeks in the middle of May, but have planned a trip to see Dirty Dancing to save my liver!

Questions for those living in the US are you coming to England just for the cruise or are you planning to visit for a few days before, please shout if you have any questions about the UK and if you want any ideas of where to visit xx So glad we only have a short car ride this time to the port and no weight restrictions yay

SarahBeal-- We are definitely coming early, but at this point I think we might spend a few days in Paris before the cruise. We will be in London this summer, so hopefully we'll get a lot of our sightseeing done this year!

Over a year away, but we all like to "Dream" yes? It's "Magic" we might agree!

TiggerPU88, DS and I have discussed what we'd like to do in London & environs pre-coach trip to Dover July 22nd am. I went to London-area for 7 days when I was 19yrs old long time ago and saw many of the typical highlights. Also went through quickly by train 24 yrs ago via an exhilarating trip to Scotland. Wife (who's curious) and son (who's not) have never been. I worked with a "sister office" in London for 3~5 years in early 2000's but never made it over.
.
Many flights between NY/NJ/Phil and LHR, LGW and late evening "red-eye" is the typical way to go. Hope to depart Fri July 17th and arrive in London-proper exhausted the next am. Not ideal to plan too much, but hopefully we will stay in an interesting area (via Marriott points!) and explore a bit that first day July 18th. Any places to buy Diet Dr. Pepper?

We live right next to NYC so we are trying to rule out things in London that we don't do anyway. I used to work near Times Square so we will do our best to ignore what's in common.

We will have Sun, Mon, Tues - July 19th-21st for plans. I would like to see "Speaker's Corner" again - fascinating! Probably a Harry Potter-themed tour and maybe a day-trip out to Cambridge (where so much of Princeton University's architecture was based on). My wife loves Agatha Christie so maybe something connected?

We are catching up on "Sherlock" now (this trip inspired me!) so we will have some other thoughts by then. Spending more than a couple of days in London & England was a key reason why we desire this cruise.

I would welcome thoughts from our British friends. I think we know the woman who helped develop the "Oyster Card" for London Transport, so we'll have the transportation situation thought out.

Yes, I am excited, but I am trying not to engage in too much "Fantasy" at this point. It's a "Wonder," that we're considering this trip in the first place.

The situation on our transport and Oyster we will update you closer to the time, there are many changes afoot, so many, we have tube drivers strikes next week and the week after. There is some good news that you can pay by debit card later this year by contact less payment just dab your card in the yellow big button at entrance turn styles, other good news is a lot of lines have brand new trains costing eight million pounds for each one, but the colour scheme is different to people who gave been here before.

Bad news the reason for strikes is TFL ( transport for London) is going to close all ticket offices so you have to use oyster from self service machines or debit card, a few tourist information centres will remain.

Finally we have push bikes everywhere for hire, nicknamed Boris a Bikes after our mayor, you can set yourself up to collect a bike from any bike station all over the city, tide and then drop it off at sny other docking station, for people confident to ride it's a nice alternative.

Queen Elizabeth Oylimpic park is now open to the public with lots to see, Cutty Sark has been lifted so you can go under it now as well! The Shard is currently our tallest building and you can go up and view London there, higher than the London Eye, and you can walk on the roof of the O2' this has been called the Milleninum stadium or the North Greenwich arena.

Cross rail is being built, now it will not be open in 2015 but do not book hotels near its route re building work.

The nickname contest for the cruise thread, did not provoke many of you into action...so we have two options:

1. I post the 5 names I have been sent (from 4 Dissers) and we vote.
2. We delay the naming until the end of August 2014, when most people will have returned from this years vacation and this thread will really come to life with Dissers planning for this cruise.

I will give everyone who entered so far a Cadbury's dairy milk or as we will be in the UK you can have the illegal to import to USA, "Kinder Egg's" the choice is yours.

Hi all,

We will be joining the cruise too (with DH, DS who will be 7 and DD who will be 5). It will be our third Disney cruise, last year we cruised around the Mediterranean, which we are repeating this year.

If possible, we would love to join in with the fish extenders.

I've not managed to read all the posts so far but will try to catch up.
