On July 20, 1969, the human race accomplished its single greatest technological achievement of all time when a human first set foot on another celestial body.

Six hours after landing at 4:17 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (with less than 30 seconds of fuel remaining), Neil A. Armstrong took the “Small Step” into our greater future when he stepped off the Lunar Module, named “Eagle,” onto the surface of

Thankyou for posting this awsome reminder....something that at the time, felt like a dream!

My dad was a mechanical engineer and he worked on the space program, so it's an extra special memory for me in that respect.

Thanks again for posting this. :)

I remember it well! Our DD was just 4 weeks old, and we stayed up all night so we could video tape the broadcast of the landing live. Yes, I said video tape. We had a prototype of a reel to reel video machine that GE was testing with it's employees. There was no timer or anything as technical as all that, but we do still have that machine and that tape as well as tapes of our DD coming home from the hospital that year. Unfortunately, the machine no longer works, and we can't find anyone who can transfer those tapes to a modern format.

I was going on 12 yrs old, I can't say I remeber that particualr day but I do remeber growing up and reading and hearing about the whole event. :D

A day Marie and I will always remember. We were both so awe-struck at the thought we were looking at the moon that night, and there were two humans on it and one in orbit around it. And only a 7 months earlier, we all had listened to Borman, Lovell and Anders reading passages from Genesis, while in first manned lunar orbit, on Christmas Eve. Those were really some exciting days of space exploration. Thanks, Mark.

:) That happened 5 months before I was born.:) I need to ask my mom what she remembers about it all.:)

We drove about a 1/4 mile down the road to watch it on their new COLOR TV( it was in B/W:confused: ) .

It was and is one of the most vivid memories of my youth.

Steve

Yes - I remember it well. I was just short of ten years old, and at my grandmother's in RI for vacation. They let us all stay up late to watch. I especially remember how the adults were all blown away by this! We kids didn't realize what an amazing thing this was!
