July 2010 Check-In

So my oldest son gets to join us on our trip!!! :cool1: That brings a total of 10 of us hitting the parks in late July!!!! Can't wait!!! :yay:

That sure is a group!! One day I'll know what it feels like to travel with more than just 1 person. Hopefully it doesn't scare me too much!

I can't seem to get the 35% DLH or the get-5-for-3 package deal for the DLH for mid-July. Do you think if I change dates it will work or do you know what gives? I would REALLY appreciate a discount!

Alternatively, I can seem to get the discount for GCH, but it's only $140 less than the regular price at DLH where the rooms in the Dream Tower are renovated. Unless, do you know of any refurb for the room at GCH? I am so used to the refurbed Poly and Grand Floridian rooms that I "need" that :rolleyes1

I'm still so unsure what we should do...will be in Anaheim the 27th of July-7th of August.

Hojo...we're in the kids suite, so that means we're on the freeway side? How noisy is that?

We also have a kids suite at the Hyatt booked...this is a Disney package--so ends up being about $200 cheaper than Hojo plus get a character dining.

Anyhow...no new news...just unsure and have to book by end of day tonight!

Here's something from a recent Press Release that I didn't see until this morning about 2010's Summer Nightastic:

“Summer Nightastic!” Returns
Beginning June 11, “Summer Nightastic!” returns to the Disneyland Resort, featuring exciting evening events that will electrify the night. "Summer Nightastic!" runs through Aug. 29 at Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure theme parks.
Also coming this year is the new nighttime water spectacular – “World of Color” – at Disney’s California Adventure park. Surpassing all previous water productions, “World of Color” brings Disney animation to life with powerful fountains that are the stars of the show, forming the world’s largest projected water screen. In the making since 2005, “World of Color” combines hundreds of magnificent fountains, LED-produced dazzling colors, and an all-new kaleidoscope of audio and visual effects to take water-infused entertainment to a new level of artistry.
Located in Paradise Bay, Disney’s newest production features an unprecedented infrastructure of water effects, larger-than-life projections, lasers, fire, fog, surround sound and stunning images. This technical wizardry, combined with classic, animated Disney and Disney•Pixar film sequences, creates an emotional experience for guests as jaw-dropping effects sweep across the lagoon and soar into the sky.
Meanwhile, at Disneyland park, “Fantasmic!” ignites the night with thrills, life-like creatures including a fire-breathing dragon, and spine-tingling adventures for Sorcerer Mickey. Also, in the skies above Sleeping Beauty Castle, “Magical” sparks to life with a dazzling fireworks spectacular in which colorful choreographed pyrotechnics burst and soar to a soundtrack of celebratory Disney songs. “Magical,” which premiered in summer 2009, features both Tinker Bell and Dumbo in flight over the castle.

Too bad I'm completely underwhelmed by it. The removal of the DEP this summer is still depressing. World of Color, while I'm sure it will be amazing, is not the same draw for me that the DEP was. And I really am not a fan of Magical.

Why was I so set on doing the summer thing again?

I totally agree - can't help thinking about what we are NOT gonna see (DEP again after 20 year gap!) instead of all the new stuff (which, just to remind myself) was why we are coming to DLR this summer for the first time instead of WDW:lmao:

We'll find a way to make the most out of it! I'll feel better when we all actually get there and are immersed in the fun. When you've been planning it and had your heart set on something and then you get that news, it's hard not to be disappointed, you know?

We are booked!

I couldn't go back and forth anymore and just had to do it...so...

We will be staying 6 nights at the Hyatt. Booked through Costco so got the Premium Dining as a bonus.

We're so excited!

:)

Guess it's time I jumped in. VGC studio July 11th-17th. It's our first July trip in about 50 or more trips the last 12 years. I'm interested in seeing how busy it will be with most AP's blocked out, although crowds don't bother me a lot especially if you go to the park early enough. It always amazes me how quiet the park can be until about 11am even on the busiest of days.

You'll have to let us know how you like the Villas! I'll get you added now.

Bumping this up again! Any other July travelers?

My trip's future is looking rather dim once again. My friend's work schedule got changed so she doesn't think she can get the time off for us to go. Now I'll just wait to see if the HoJo will have the ET rate or not.

Maybe I'll just go camping with my little sister before she leaves for college instead.

:confused3

Giving this a little *+*+*BUMP*+*+*!!

Jessica......I really hope you get things worked out so you can go to DL!!!!

I am getting sooooooo excited...it's April...which means our trip is only 3 months away--while technically more as we don't leave until the 27th!!

I'm happy with my decision to stay at the Hyatt, the new kids suites look nice.

With the Costco deal we get a premium dining...would you do AG or GK?

: )

Are they into the princesses?? My kids are, so we make sure to include Ariel's.....but we are die-hard fans of Goofy's Kitchen!!

Ariel's will be more "formal" with a presentation of the princesses who will then go table to table to greet their guests. We haven't had the lunch or dinner there for a couple years, so can't help on the food. We did the breakfast which was served family style & it was very good.

Goofy's is louder & more action for the kids to join in on. We like doing the breakfast/brunch over the dinner....but that's because we've seen more characters for the breakfast then we do at dinner. The food is always plentiful & good here.

Not much help was I........:rotfl2: Choices, choices, choices!!

I will be going July 26 - 29th with my son, a good friend and her son. I go several times a year (in fact will be there in June at a 2 bdrm VGC!) and my friend and I usually try to take an annual trip with our boys (I say boys but they are teenagers). We are staying at the DLH concierge.

Both my son and I did the GADGADD. We are in the east bay (NorCal) and our volunteer day was at the silent film museum in Niles Canyon. It was really interesting because I never knew that Niles Canyon was once the seat of the silent film industry! In fact, Charlie Chaplin did his early films there! We are going to exchange our vouchers for the Fastpass option when we go in June.

There was a glitch for several days that people reported when they were trying to book the 5 for 3. Have you tried again?

The rooms at the GCH are not up for refurb but personally, I don't think they need them. We go back and forth between GCH and DLH and my last stay in Feb was in the new rooms at the DLH. They are gorgeous!! The Dreams tower should be completed by July which would increase your chances of getting a new room but there is no guarantee - but if you book DLH, definitely note in the ressie that you would like the Dreams tower.

Thank you Laurie!! I'm keeping everything crossed that I possibly can that this will work out. I hate it being so up in the air with everything so "iffy". GAH!

It depends. The character interaction is going to be a lot better at GK, but if anyone in your family absolutely loves the Princesses, Ariel's Grotto is awesome! We did breakfast and I loved our food, and getting the chance to see the Princesses, but I definitely preferred Goofy's Kitchen as a whole! Just watch out for Balloo if he's there, he liked to sneak up on my friend and I and scare the you-know-what out of us!

How cool for your GADGAD stuff! I'm getting you added :thumbsup2

The HydroFamily is going July 27-31. First time at the GCH. :cool1:

:cool1: Awesome HydroGuy!!
