July 2010 Check-In

Hi

I know a lot of folks would say that was too long but we are using HoJo as our base and plan to also visit Universal Hollywood, Knotts, Hollywood tour on a tour bus, Santa Monica and Huntington beaches and we are just looking forward to lazing by the hotel pool for a change.

We are buying the 6 day hopper and then maybe upgarding to a DAP when we are there - we are thinking that after going down to the beach in the day we may want to walk over to DLP to see the fireworks again or something. On the other hand we may just go straight for DAP's as I like the discounts you get on meals and particularly 'Walk in Walt's Footsteps' tour.

I figured you would be doing a lot of other things in the surrounding area. Someday I would love to take a vacation that long somewhere so I could experience more than one thing. I've done a week in SoCal and done DLR, and some things in San Diego and that was interesting minus the driving back and forth which was killer. I hope you have a great time. I enjoyed Universal when I went, but it's been more than 10 years since I've done that, lol.

Just a heads up for all of our July travelers - the Aladdin musical at DCA will be going dark in August to be replaced early next year by a Toy Story musical so this looks like our last chance to see it :thumbsup2

And bumping this thread up to see if we've got any more July'ers.

Sounds a great plan. On our first Californa trip we did San Francisco, Monterey, Hollywood and Anaheim and were shattered at the end of it. This time it's just DD and myself, and we're staying first night in Anaheim then taking the train down to San Diego, staying there for 4 nights, then coming back to Anaheim for the last 6 nights, and will do a day in Hollywood from there, and maybe a beach tour too, much more relaxing. :cool2:

Really looking forward to having more time at Disneyland, as we only stayed 2 nights last time and it was such a whirlwind I can't remember half of it, so it will be nice to take it easy and have some pool time, oh and some shopping time too! :rotfl2:

Are you flying indirect from Manchester or direct from London? We are flying with VA from Heathrow straight to LAX.

We'll be there July 19 - 23, we have reservations at Hojo right now, but may be able to get a really low rate at Sheraton Park Place, so we might switch.

I'm thinking about forgoing the whole July thing right now. Part of the reason we picked July over our other possible choices (early June or early September) was because the EP typically runs during the summer. Yeah - not happening.

Read the Disney Parks Blog post here

I'm really bummed about this. Once WOC is up it wont be going anywhere, but this was my way of trying to make it during a time when the EP was running and now that's not happening. There's no way I can get to DLR during the weeks they are planning on running the EP before taking it to WDW.

Oh no! :sad1: I absolutely love the EP and was really looking forward to seeing it in July, haven't seen it since our trip to DL 3 years ago, and the year we decide to go to DL instead of WDW they take it away! :sad1:

So what parade will be replacing it at DL? Spectro I guess? Really not hugely keen on that one.

Not necessarily.

At this time, Disney's Electrical Parade is probably being replaced by Disney's World of Color.

Right now we'll just have to wait and see. But I do know that if the only parade this summer is that Celebrate thing, then I will be rethinking when I'm making this vacation and I'll probably push it back to a slower season. Too bad it's still too early to know what will be going on this summer. WOC isn't a big enough draw for me to see it in July rather than wait a few more months. The EP was, seeing as recently it's only been offered at certain times.

:banana:We are doing the ABD Backstage Magic tour, so we will be at Disney on the afternoon of July 19-23. We can't wait; we are West Coast newbies!

Hi
We are flying from Manchester via London Heathrow with BA. The Virgin flights were roughly the same price but would have had to fly with another carrier down to London and with BA I found out our luggage is checked the whole way through so thought we'd try them for a change (usually go to WDW and fly either direct or indirect with a US carrier)

Also really miffed that we may not get to see EP - saw it many years ago at WDW and it would have been a nostalgic thing

Oh I'm really miffed about the EP too, can't believe they are moving it, was really looking forward to seeing it again, we saw it in WDW many years ago, and also saw it last time we went to DL 3 years ago, it's so much nicer than Spectro, just more traditional, oh well, let's hope the World of Color lives up to expectations!

I had some Airmiles so booked our flights down to Heathrow for the night before, flying with BMI, and staying in the Travelodge near Heathrow, then flying with VA the next day, didn't really fancy two flights one after the other on the same day. Really looking forward to seeing Disneyland again, we only stayed 2 nights last time, so this will be a chance to take things slower and enjoy it more. :cool1:

:goodvibes I have finally started the makeover of the first thread! As information comes out about the summer promotions and what not, I will do my best to keep as much of that information organized for us all.

Is anyone else being totally obsessive about planning even though we are still so far away?

Yes, me! :surfweb: Been planning this trip for the last 3 months and will continue to do so! :rotfl2:

Appreciate you keeping us informed about the Summer info, you're a star! :thumbsup2

:rolleyes1Me too! Even though a lot of our trip has already been planned, I am very OCD about our vacations from plotting the easiest way to get to the airport, to what are we going to be doing in our free time? The kids and I have already made our lists of what rides are "musts" and I religiously view Miceage for all their wonderful pictures. (Especially since we have been having snow every week!)

Why thank you  I'm totally obsessed with planning this trip, it's insane. I can only imagine what it will be like the closer we get to July!

I'm so glad I'm not in an area that gets snow (although we did get some randomly the other month - it was beyond weird). But I have to go through my bajillions of Disneyland photos almost daily. Gotta have my fix!

Right now I'm in the middle of reading the Unofficial Guide to Disneyland (2010) before moving on to a couple of other Disneyland books I picked up. Joyous.
