July 2010 Check-In

:cool1: Tomorrow is my volunteer day! And even after I do my GAD service, I've got more volunteer events coming up through work. I'm so excited!

Have fun! My bf and I made blankets for a charity that delivers them to kids in hospitals and stuff and we are probably going to drop them off tomorrow. It was fun to make them and I hope someone will enjoy them.

What a neat thing to do! What kind of blankets were they (well, as far as making them)? I wish I was any good at making anything with my own two hands that wasn't a mess :lmao:

Man, oh man. Last night I had a terrible dream. It's not unusual for me to dream about Disneyland (it happens very frequently, actually), but usually they have better results. I had gotten there for what was supposed to be a wonderful vacation only to find out I had left my PH at home. It was horrifying. I'm always paranoid I'm going to forget my tickets at home for anything I go to. Luckily it's never actually happened to me in the waking world. But that doesn't make it any less traumatizing, lol.

So I didn't sleep too well last night.

I posted this on my never-ending TR, but I'm sharing here as well:

What a blast this GAD has been for me so far!

How crazy is this: The preschool that I volunteered at today just so happens to be at the location where I attended Kindergarten and Elementary school until our brand new campus was completed when I was in 1st grade, and then where I attended Jr. High while the main campus construction was completed. It was just a total deju-vu moment getting out of my car and remembering all the time I spent there.

It sure does look a lot smaller now that I'm older!!

But it was a lot of fun, and there were a lot of people there (I heard the organizer mention that she had about 100 people sign up) but we had a lot to do. Taking just about everything out of the classrooms so they could be cleaned outside while every surface inside was cleaned, inventories were taken, you name it. By the time noon rolled around we still could have found more to do, but it was a successful morning nonetheless. And of course some chit chatting with everyone there every now and again about our Disney obsessions and when we're all planing on going, have we received PIN offers after signing up, and all that jazz ( :rotfl: ).

Did you get to drop them off yesterday?

I don't know how to sew or knit or crochet so we made the no sew fleece blankets, where you tie the ends together around the whole thing. It was fun but after crawling around on the ground the whole time making it my knees were hurting. I feel like I'm getting old.

We didn't drop them off yet because the place is about an hour away and some things came up the other day. We just have to do it before Friday. :yay:

I've seen quite a few DIS'ers making these no sew fleece blankets (try saying that 10 times fast) and I had never even heard of them until now. I had to do a few google searches to see how they were done. Pretty cool, I must say.

And I have to say, if your knees hurting after crawling around on the ground is a sign of aging, I'm getting old!! :lmao: I was working on my art roject this morning and had to use the kitchen floor to do my coffee wash on this HUGE (I mean, life sized me) drawing and my knees and back were killing me by the time I was done.

I tease. Oops.

I hope you're able to find time to turn them in soon ;)

OOH - here's another question (and something I will probably add to the OP as well), but is anyone else planning to write a pre-trip and/or trip report? Are you waiting to start one until you get closer to Dis-Day?

I've kept the same TR going since March of last year and it's crazy fun. It currently has 3 trip reports (March & September '09 and reflecting on June '07) and of course I have already started the PTR for July 2010!!! I promise to jump on board any July trippers PTR's and TR's!!

Come new things added to the OP today!!

* There is now a spot to list any meet ups as they are discussed. If you are interested in one, speak up!

* I have also started to add some of the events and so-on that will be going on in Anaheim like the Volleyball tournament that has a special Disney day planned (July 5) as well as the MLB all-star game and fun-fest. I'll be putting more up soon ;)

Ooooh it's all looking great, well done, but you're getting me way too excited about this trip! :rotfl:

Bumpin' this back up! My family's officially going in July. :cool1: Well, we haven't booked the Disneyland portion yet, but we already bought our Comic-Con tickets so I think we're stuck going now. ;) We'll be there July 18-21. Not as long as I'd like, but I'll take what I can get! Hopefully my plan works and this little taste of Disney will get them hooked.

We have our second Comic-Con and Disneyland go'er! Radiatorsprings is also doing both - and I have to say I am a little jealous! Are you also doing anything for the GAD promotion?

I'm adding you to the OP right now.

We're stoked. Never been to Comic-Con, and we're going for just a day, but I think that'll give us a nice taste and we can decide if we want to go back again another year.

Yes! My family's making the fleece blankets. We bought fleece already (let me tell you, fleece is expensive, even half-off at the local Jo Ann's) and we're supposed to get started some time this week. I'm excited to see how they turn out.

:thumbsup2 A few other DIS-ers I know 'round these parts made the fleece blankets. I'll add you to our list of GAD-ers. That's something I thin I may want to try in the future. The promotion has kind of opened my eyes to just how many volunteer opportunities there are out there. I do volunteer already, but it's usually through work which can be few and far between.

I wish I was going to SoCal later in the month so I could have done Comic-Con. I've been wanting to go for years no, but never do. I made the decision to be there for the 55th Anniversary on the 17th, however.

My family just moved to the Pacific Northwest, so we haven't found any local volunteer opportunities. So this promotion was perfect for us. Even though we ended up making blankets, we first looked plenty on the Disney website. So we've found other local places we'd like to volunteer another time. :wizard:

Truth be told, I'd rather be in Disneyland for the 55th Anniversary. I was bummed when I looked up Comic-Con dates and discovered it was a week later. But at least I can say I went during the anniversary year, and get some of that adorable 55th merchandise I've seen online!

Very true ;) And you aren't off by too many days! I just wish it was closer to the time when they would announce what all is going on this summer other than there not being any Electrical Parade.
