July 18 Tortola cruise part 3

This is why I am glad we are flying Southwest! Two bags at NO ADDITIONAL charge!!!

Good call :) My DH is a mechanic for Delta and I'm really bitter towards them right now because he will only be a mechanic for them 1 more month. They are closing the base here in Orlando (MCO) as of Sept and while the 81 guys had a option to relocate to JFK, Logan, or CVG, I'm a Floridian and refused to move. So early out for him after 15 years....ugh....no I'm not bitter  Of the 81 guys here....4 are relocating! That is what they get....lol...but they were probably happy about that!

We went to visit DS12 at scout camp last night. fatphil and DD10 joined me in driving out. The first thing I noticed was he was ABSOLUTELY FILTHY but smiling from ear to ear! Nothing like the sight and stinch of 20 sweaty, dirty boys!! :thumbsup2:He loves the outdoors. The three of us, on the otherhand, couldn't wait to get out of there.:scared1: We enjoyed the time with Marshall but the deep woods isn't our gig!:sad2: I brought home some of his clothing just because we are picking him up tonight and going straight to the hotel near the airport. They were so disgusting that fatphil refused to touch the bag! I pitty the poor maid who is cleaning our room tomorrow..........Lord knows what she will think when she sees that bath tub! When we got in the car everyone was scrambling to find the antibacterial wipes!!

I certainly understand your frustrations. We have several friends who work at CVG for ComAir and Delta. It's awful what they are doing to these people. BTW - I know you are a Floridian and understand why you didn't leave, but Cincinnati is a lovely place! We go there at least twice a month. DH lived there until we got married but I am not licensed to teach there so we are living here until I retire in 8 years. We never fly out of there though because it is the second most expensive airport behind Anchorage Alaska!:scared1:

Ipods and my cell phone are charged. Need to pack the chargers.

I woke up at 2:00 am with some idiot setting off fire crackers in the street. Then a car alarm went off on the next street. And I have to get up early again tomorrow - but I don't care about that one.

1 Days 0 Hrs 37 Mins 9 Secs and I'll be on a plane for Florida.

I feel the same way. I would just hit a wall, and need to stop. I hate not being able to pack some of the little things that we are still using.

On top of packing today, my DD turned 14. Hard to believe how quickly the time has past. She will have to wait to celebrate with friends until we get back. Just not enough time in the day.

I hope I sleep tonight. gotta set the alarm to do the Southwest check-in.

Nite all...........or Good Morning to most of you.:wave2:

I hear you. I've got plenty of time to pack, but most of it is stuff that I need to use in some capacity, and I'm also better organized when I know that I can just run down the list step-by-step. In the end, I've basically put all the stuff I need to pack in a pile, and then I'm just going to ACTUALLY pack it on Friday. That way I'm pretty much done, and just need to organize.

And happy birthday to your daughter!!!

Ugh! Your husband works for the airline industry?!!? One of my best friends is a mechanic over at the Executive airport, and they're tightening belt straps to the point is afraid he's going to be out of a job, too. Are they relocating because it's cheaper, or are they just downsizing? I would've thought Orlando was one of the best places to base mechanics.

And if you're a fan of Florida, you probably WOULD be miserable in any of those places... :( Though I really loved my time in the Northeast, I'm not sure I could live up there, anymore. Besides, my hick-ish Hoosier accent fits in pretty good down here. :)

Safe travels to everyone, today! Hope to see you tonight at Earl's, and if not, hopefully we'll see everyone on Saturday! Stay dry!

This is a problem we have every year around the 4th. Surprisingly, it wasn't so bad this year, but almost every year prior to this one the kids have been woken up every night for weeks because of it. It's really tough to get back to sleep after that, isn't it. :)

All the guys that are relocating are going to CVG. I've been up there a couple of times when he had to go for training. It is nice but the big fear is they are next to close. Delta/Comair/Northwest...can't support all the hubs they have and are going to close some. Comair (which is actually the division DH works for) will be gone completely in a year or two. Very sad as he has loved it but it has gone downhill since Delta bought them years ago.....such is life. I love my job and can support us so he can get his payout and start looking. He is over aviation but what else are you going to do with a BS in aeronautical studies :confused3 I told him to go back to Embry Riddle and teach but I think he would pass out if he had to stand in front of peeps and talk. :scared1:

um... we did long john silvers... not the best in the west, but okay in a pinch.....

okay... this song "I don't want to gain the whole world and lose my soul".... has been stuck in my head for 3 hours now.... three.... count them.... do you know how many gains and soul's that is??????

At least it's a good song! I can relate, I watched part of "Into the Woods" with dh before boarding. One my favorite musicals, but the most impossible song to get rid of once it's stuck. " into the woods, into the woods and home before dark".

Just not a good time for aviation jobs period :) I agree, MCO would be a great home for maintenance because besides the infrequent hurricanes, we have great weather...no worries of too much snow! Delta is just concentrating more flights in the Northeast right now. BUT even though DH has been out sick for 2 weeks.....he read on their website that as of Sept they are cutting back some of those flights and just going to layoff more. Feel bad for the people who just relocated there to only hear they are going to have to relo again. I'm very happy with our decisions. :thumbsup2

Given what you just said, you probably did make a good decision!

You would never know fireworks are illegal in NJ.

I have "I'm on a boat" stuck in my head. I don't like some of the lyrics it is funny at times and fits the upcoming trip! We were texting the song back and forth last night!

I just checked in at Southwest. I was up trying to check in up to 5 min. before the time. And I still only got Boarding Passes A 40/41/42. How in the heck did the others get the first 30?:confused3 I miss Seat Sniper. I used them last year and got the first 5 boarding passes, but Southwest also found them and shut them down. Oh well. The real trick is those boarding passes home since we are on Castaway Cay the 24 hours before. Everyone I know, except for one person, is gone on that day and will not have access to a computer, and DH will be in a meeting. C'est la vie. Love Southwest except for this little bit.

Safe travels to everyone today! Congrats Greg on your second pirate! We had lunch there yesterday. DTD at 11 is nice by 1, it was busy. Which was fine we were leaving by then. Sad to walk through pleasure island, empty and underutilized.

Not sure what our plans are for today, no one is awake yet. We may just roll out of bed and into the pool.

My uncle is a pilot. I made the mistake of complaining about the baggage charge and got a 15 minute monologue about the ridiculously low airline ticket prices that the airlines are forced to offer in order to attract passengers. According to him, if the airlines were actually to be profitable they should be charging $5000 a ticket - not $200! :scared1::scared1: Evidently (and I've not tested this), if you adjust ticket prices for inflation - this is what tickets actually cost in the 1960's before the dreaded - deregulation...:scared:

Of course, I would think with prices like this you'd have many fewer airlines and a lot fewer jobs, but what do I know...:confused3

You would never know fireworks are illegal in NJ.

They were illegal in San Antonio due to the horrible drought this year. The city actually burned 8 designated areas before the 4th and only allowed small fireworks - nothing airborne - in these areas. But we didn't really hear any while were there and that's definitely a first, so I think folks actually headed the rules!

Okay - off to Hollywood Studios! Gotta see HSM3 show!!! :cheer2:

They are in MD too, yet I see tons of places selling them around the 4th.

The best was right before the 4th. There is a free magazine with coupons that is only distributed in Bergen County NJ. The front page was an ad for a fireworks place in Pennsylvania with coupons and in small letters at the bottom - "It is illegal to own or use fireworks in the state of NJ". Who do they think is going to buy them if not people in NJ if you advertise in a NJ magazine.

Isn't that weird!?!? Our area doesn't even tell you they're illegal.

We purchased sparklers at our local Target, and lit them in the driveway a couple of years ago. About five minutes later a (very humble) police officer arrived to tell us that someone had called to complain that we were lighting off fireworks, and that he was sorry but they were illegal in our town. "But... but... there's people all through the neighborhood lighting off firecrackers. Why did she call on us?" He just sort of awkwardly laughed, and said there wasn't much he could do about it, and that he was really sorry. Had we lit them off on the back porch, nobody would have noticed, so it was really frustrating. Especially since there were several houses right next to us lighting off launchers and bottle rockets. :confused3

Since then, I've been sort of anti-fireworks, and we just catch them at Disney when in the area. They're better, anyway, and free! :)
