July 18 Tortola cruise part 3

Ok, back by popular demand...

Here are the first photos from Uganda (Sorry, Joann#2's been hogging the computer - we only have one with us during the move).

First day of school (a week ago last Monday). The box with thier brand new backpacks was delayed, so they made do with plastic sacks (poor kids!):

Our mansion (it's really not huge, but it is very nice and the girls brag that it has a balcony - like our Disney ship cabin did):

The view from upstairs (the capital city of Kampala is much bigger than good ol' Ouagadougou (wa-ga-doo-goo) and much busier - it's going to take some getting used to):

We don't have a lot of toys yet (the main shipment from Ouaga got stuck there for two months so it's still nowhere in sight - AAAARGH!) but the girls are enjoying with the boxes from our air shipment:

Wow great pics, Aaron, the girls look great and so does the house!:goodvibes

Love the pictures, Aaron -- the house is beautiful, as is the view!

It was a little bit of a shock to see an old style southern plantation house in Africa!

First day of school with students is Monday...........:cool1:

Starwood - how is you Mom doing?

I made it through the first week of school - but it seems like the last 5 days lasted 3 weeks! I have some GREAT kids - I'm loving them already.

We had our first football game tonight - we won 28-0... DD marched their first section of their band routine (They are doing Tommy by the Who). She also is first chiar in her band to start off....

Loved Loved Loved the pics of the girls and the house and the view!!!

================

To next cruise:
484 days
11630 hours
697827 minutes
41869654 seconds

She had the surgery Sunday and was transferred to rehab on Wednesday. She seems to be doing very well. She said she doesn't have any pain except a little at the incision site and some itching from the tape and incision healing. Still not sure how long she will be there because she has stairs in her house. I need to take her to the orthopedist next week and he will do an x-ray to make sure it's healing properly.

Matt has missed the last 2 and 1/2 days of band camp because he managed to get a sinus infection. School starts Wednesday. I hope this isn't an indication of the way the school year is going to go.

We need to compare competition schedules - is the band competing in BOA or the Lone Star preview?

Back from chaperoning our first away football game - in Alice, TX just outside of Corpus Christi - a road trip and an overnight trip. :scared1: 4 hrs to Corpus to the hotel and then another hour outside of Corpus for the game. Chaperoning went well, considering the last time I was on a bus with students was in 1985, I would be willing to do it again. The band kids are a good group, the band director runs a tight ship, and I would do it again. I even managed to catch about 6 hours of sleep :cool1: :thumbsup2

As of right now, our show is called "Peat: Repeat" - with all original music. Our band directors and staff have an pretty impressive resume of Drum Corp experience, so our band marches in a similar style.

Small town Texas Friday night football is definitely something to experience. We even had TV coverage pulling into the hotel. I guess 6 charter buses (4 for band), of football players, cheerleaders, drill team, and the band and the band's semi truck is newsworthy.... :) It was a wild night - our team won - sloppily but, it was a win...

We pulled in the driveway about 6:30 - I think Mike was in bed asleep by 6:45... :lmao:

I'm not sure - do you know when they are and I can look up DD band schedule

Here's their competition schedule:

10/3 - BOA Pearland
10/17 Lone Star Preview Woodlands
10/24 BOA San Antonio
1114 BOA Grand Nationals - Indianapolis

Glad Mom is on the mend. The rehab place will transport her to the dr. but you'll probably have to pay for the transport. It might be easier to have them take the responsibility for getting her there and back and you can meet her there. Not sure what happens if she happens to trip (Heaven forbid) while you have her out. Is she your responsibility or the rehab's? Might want to ask. You don't want to void any insurance coverage. Isn't it ridiculous that we have to think about these things.

Great pics, Aaron, thanks for sharing. We'd love to see more when you get a chance. The house looks beautiful. I'll bet you can't wait until your things arrive.

JoAnn #1 - Good luck with school tomorrow. We have our faculty meeting on Tues and then kids new to the school from Wed to Fri. The whole school starts the day after Labor Day.

Thanks. It's incredible how the principal sets the tone for the building. We are blessed with a great one. Hope yours continues to be as good as he/she seems. :woohoo:

Made it through the first week with new kids. I've changed my mind I want my other group back. Week one consisted of 75 incident reports two calls to poison control and 1 911 call. I started week two at a meeting with DSS and while at that meeting another DSS worker showed up needing to talk with me about a suspected case of abuse and neglect. I always said i needed a job that would be challenging but not this challenging.

Hi Everyone!

Even though we are no longer there, I hope you will keep the people of Ouagadougou in your thoughts and prayers. This week the city received over a foot of rain in less than 10 hours. Everything flooded! Over 100,000 people have been left homeless and more have lost everything they own - businesses have lost their merchandise, cars and motos have floated away or are just worthless now, walls that didn't collapse are no longer structurally sound in many buildings. It is really sad.

We are still trying to trace our household staff to make sure they are okay. No one can reach our former nanny and I'm worried. Two US Embassy families had their homes flood and much of their belongings are ruined as well. One family has two girls - 6 and 4.

Please just keep them in your thoughts this week.
