Hi everyone! You can include me in the FE. Not very crafty...I saw somewhere that a Christmas stocking was used. Now that's an easy idea! Could be Christmas in July, right? Also to update my family on the cruise- DH, DS 11, DD 4 and DG (disney grandma-my mom)

Greetings.

I've been a thread lurker here and enjoying your enthusiasm for the Tortola adventure.

We want to cruise (again) so badly, but haven't been able to pull the trigger and drop a down payment on it.

After the market meltdown this week, who knows what will happen by next summer.

We are going to Vero Beach in April and then Kidani Village in July on DVC points. So it's not like we aren't vacationing in '09. But, we'd really like to put the Tortolla cruise in front of the WDW trip.

What can I do to convince myself to book?!?!? Someone please help...and bring me that horizon!

:lmao:

We will be at Vero in April '09 as well!

Add me for another - I e-mailed my family didn't want my nephew feeling left out - my dad thinks it's a great idea - we'll see what the others think. Maybe I'll even get them posting, yet!

I interrupt our regularly scheduled Dising' for the following emergency announcement:

I need some WDW planning advice

- how are the 2nd or 3rd weeks in March for crowds? Would an extended family including Grandparents, a (at time of vacation in 2010) 15 year old, a 12 year old, 5 year old and 3 year old with the kids' parents - enjoy the parks? This would be the 1st time for the 5 year old and 3 year old - and about 20 years since the last visit for the grandparents and the preschoolers' parents... And 11 years for the 15 year old and 12 year old...

Or would a a Disney Cruise be a better option given those demographics? :rolleyes1 (That last question is a tongue-in-cheek question, I know my (er the 15 and 12 year old mother's preference - but, I would like an objective answer to the first question)

I now return you to your regularly scheduled dis'ing....

Late Breaking News Update: Actually our spring break is ALWAYS during the week that St. Patrick's Day falls on, so that is pretty much the time period you are talking about. We go yearly, although we are skipping this year due to the cost of cruising 7 of us this summer.

Typically the crowds are not really bad, but it isn't the best time either. Lines are usually around 60+ minutes for the "hot rides" such as TT, RR, Splash, Space, BTMRR, etc. The other rides seem to run at 40 minutes or less. I guess what I am saying is that it's still a wait for rides. I think anytime is busy for the Fantasyland rides just because people with all preschool age children go at all times during the year, not just school vacations.

Many of the midwestern universities and school are off during early to mid March because they still recognize the "farming schedules" of being off prior to planting season, so you get the university and midwest people on spring break (that woud be us!)

For a first time trip, the ideal time is January-February and post Easter-first week of June. I understand that the week right after Memorial Day is really great.

I am not sure of Easter 2010 schedule, but I would definitely look at that and make sure it isn't early that year. That will affect the crowds for sure. Last year we checked out a couple of days before the Easter crowd and it was pretty busy. Hope this helps.............

My vote is the cruse. You can always control the crowd there! But, the older I get :rolleyes1 the more appealing the cruse is anyway. ;) It is more of a "vacation". Don't get me wrong, I LOVE WDW. I love the parks and the resorts, but sometimes "the people" get on my nerves. I am referring to some of the visitors. :rolleyes1 I'll leave it at that.................my apologies for being "wordy"!:confused3

 Maybe fatphil32 will pop in sometime and give you the 14 year old's perspective. How about it son? :cool2:

Now, back to you, Monica, and the other Disers! :lmao:

Ok, I'll bite...........if you book, YOU WILL HAVE THE MOST AMAZING TRIP OF YOUR LIFE AND YOU WILL NEVER STOP BOOKING THIS CRUISE FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.

How's that for convincing? We booked in '99 and then dreamed of booking until 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008 and again this year in 2009 and waitlisted for 2010. We tried another line in 2006 and regretted it. :dance3:

I overlooked this post, but when JoAnn replied I realized that I needed to add my 2 cents. I TOTALLY agree with JoAnn, but from my perspective, it's just an amazing experience. It is a total FAMILY vacation.

IMHO (and I've always got one!) ~ On the cruise there are things for everyone to do, but adults can actually do things and the kids are "covered". For me, with three kids (14, 11, and 9) that's a kicker! At WDW, yes there are adult things, but no one to watch the kids or pay out the ^*$ for a sitter per hour. But, the kids are so engaged on the cruise that you can comfortably have a great time with them and without them. Plus, you are not clear across property if they want/need you too!

We cruised originally booked in 2003 on the Western Caribbean and then again in 2005 on the Mexican Riviera out of LA. While the 2nd cruise ports were not desirable to me, the amazing friendships and the Magic herself made the 2nd cruise more fun than the first...and the first one was exceptional! So, you tell me......why would you question yourself? ;) You could always transfer those points to DCL!

Here are my thoughts.

I love WDW but.... it's a lot of work. A cruise is a real vacation. You can really relax and get a little bit of Disney along with it. It is so worth the money. When you consider that what you are spending includes your room, food and all activities on the ship.
