July 17th 2005 Magic?

Hello fellow cruisers,
Hope everyone had a good Memorial Day Weekend! Just got back form Pismo Beach on Sunday--it was crowded, but the weather was wonderful (not too hot, just a little chilly at night). Now I can concentrate on THE BIG TRIP.....

disnylnd-congratulations on changing your cruise! :cool1: CHeck back with us after July and we'll give you an update!

To everyone who posted pics of the Magic arriving in San Pedro- thanks for braving the crowds and going down to welcome (or send off?) the Magic. Also, thanks for posting the pics-they were gorgeous! :earsboy:

I hadn't thought about door decorations (although I've been buying and storing stuff for the cruise since February, DisneyTart, so don't feel alone! :rotfl: ). That mihgt be something fun that the kids would enjoy doing. GoofyontheHiSeas, let us know how your sign turns out (BTW, I hope your daughter is feeling better! :flower: ).

Howdy to the July 17 "Crew". Found a neat website that shows a lot of pics of the Magic, the rooms, on deck, the restaurants, that sort of thing. It's

http://home.att.net/~pete-williams/magic/magic.htm

I especially liked the ones of the stateroom because they show what the fold down beds look like. DD13 (Megan) has been asking me what they look like and now I can show her. There are also lots of other pics.

Can you tell I'm one of those people who like to be well prepared for new surroundings? :teeth:

Cherta - Glad you got to get away for the Holiday weekend. We stayed in town and ended up going to 2 pool parties and a day trip to San Pedro on Saturday, the weather here was lovely. Thanks for making me feel better about shopping. :goodvibes Even though we booked this trip last Sept. it didn't really become a reality for us until April. So I have a bit of catching up to do. :flower:

Hey Guys! Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. My kids' last day of school was Thursday, and we are in full summer mode. We had fun this weekend looking at the pictures everyone posted of the Magic and reading the trip reports.

We're looking forward to meeting you all at Scoops. That sounds like a good plan.

I've still been checking the DCL website regularly hoping to find out our cabin assignments, but I'm still GTY. We might stay at the Doubletree LAX the night before the cruise. Anybody know anything about this hotel?

Everyone is doing such a good job of keeping this thread alive. Keep up the good work....

Amie

Oh - no! we've fallen overboard (or at least off the first page :) ) so BUMP!

Amie I'm so jealous! my girls still have 2 weeks & 2 days til school is out :hourglass , we're counting them down. Hopefully your room # will come through soon. We're in cabin 6046. Still haven't decided if we will stay near the ship on Saturday night or just come up on Sunday morning. Know I will be more relaxed if we stay the night, would hate to have a flat tire or something on the way. :sad2:

Hello everyone! Hope everyone is well. I finally saw Goofyoftheseas green mickey button. It is awesome!!!!! Has everyone been following the West Coast cruise thread? I want more detail. We still have not booked any excursions yet. I have bad memories from Cozamel that keep me from booking. It was sooooooooo hot and the bugs were really biting. Did you guys read the thread on the Disneyland board where they posted that there is a Disneyhand benefit the night of the 16th. Since it is a party and there are no guests in the staterooms, I think they should let us board early on Sun. :cool1:

Nobody has said much about them celebrating Disneyland's birthday on the cruise. Do you think we will get something special commemorating this milestone like the canal crossers and first ship out from LA? Well that's all for me for now. Can't wait to do our docs dance! :Pinkbounc

Hi Everyone!

DonettaR - good question about a commerative 50th birthday memento. I think it is special that we are cruising on Disneyland's actual birthday. Maybe we will sing happy birthday (at least) or celebrate somehow. :cool1:

If anyone's interested, I have the 'official' ages of the family traveling with us: DD9, DS12 and DS15.

DisneyTart- we're floormates :wave2: Our room # is 6634, on the other end of the ship.

Any speculation on what night will be cut from our trip? I'm thinking maybe the semiformal night on Thursday. Last night was pirate night complete with fireworks. Deb from AllEars dot net has been posting great live trip reports. She said Mazatlan was HOT :earseek:

The end of the school year is creeping to a close for us too (17th). Tomorrow we are having a class field trip to the SF zoo. It seems that the zoo trip is the next big thing to the cruise. Once the zoo is over, it's cruise all the way in my DD's eyes.

Hey everyone! Well, the west coast cruises are finally going, so we should get some good input soon. I'm a little worried about the jellyfish problems, as we scheduled a snorkeling trip in Cabo. we could always stay on the boat, but that seems like a waste. Our school is out today - my daughter is thrilled. unfortunately I have a big trial coming up, so I cant get in the spirit just yet. Actually, I'm not sure when I'll even be able to pack, much less get excited :flower:

Hi everyone, been a cloudy "June Gloom" day here in San Diego ...great day to do gardening.

DonettaR - I hadn't seen the post about a party on the 16th but it does seem logical. Sure hope we get something special for crusiing on the 17th, but you never know with Disney. They like to do the year long celebrations but we all have fingers (and toes) :earseek: crossed.

ThreeJs - Thats great we're on the same deck! We actually started out with a deck 2 cat 9 but my wonderful DBro and DSIL sprinkled some of their own pixie dust and got us an upgrade. They also upgraded themselves to a Cat 3 w/conseirge. I'm hoping our missing night will not be the Pirate Night pirate: . I can tell you right now there might be a mutuny on board if DD13pirate: and DD16pirate: don't get their Pirate Night. :rotfl2: From what Deb @ ALLEars has said it is on PV night, hopefully they will just move it over to MZ. Saw posted on another thread that the fireworks that come w/Pirate Night have to be done in Port. Who knows if this is accurrate or not?

pclaire - Here's hoping for a SHORT, big trial :cheer2:

Gotta run off to DD16's orchestra concert tonight. She plays the violin.
Take care - Bethany

It has been hectic around here as well with school ending in a couple of weeks. Anyway regarding the special party and birthday celebration, I forgot to mention that we ran into a DCL cast member while we were roaming around Ports O'Call last weekend waiting for the Magic to sail. I noticed her blue blazer with a DCL name tag. Virginia was a very pleasant lady that was excited about the maiden voyage and was even more excited to hear that our family was going on a cruise. She said that she alternates from helping people arriving at LAX to catch the shuttle and will also be working in the terminal during the check-in process. So for the million dollar question. "Virginia, what makes our special 6 day cruise, SPECIAL". Her face lite up like a Christmas tree and you could see the words spewing from her mouth when she realized that she was about to give a secret away. She clamed up and said politely that there were some very special treats for us on the Special cruise. So we can only hope.
Thanks for the encourgement on the Green Mickey. Here is another link to some Disneyland pictures with the green mickey at the end. http://community.webshots.com/album/360482716cPtvKP
Talk to you all soon.
Roger

Hi everyone,
   ..that's me doing the "we get something special, we get something special" dance! Now we gotta figure out what that "something" is. A pin or a towel perhaps? Or something bigger like "free cruises for everybody!" :goodvibes I am so glad I picked the 17th to cruise....

Here's a question for everyone-what (if anything) are you guys giving the CMs in the kid's clubs as tips? I've read everything from international phone cards to Target/WalMart gift cards to bags of chocolate candy. Anybody got any suggestions or ideas?

It sure would be nice to know when pirate night is going to be! I'm also guessing it will be when we're in Mazatlan, which means I'll need to cancel my Palo reservation. Oh well, I said I was going to go with the flow (SO unlike me :earseek: ) so I'll just wait and see.

Speaking of going with the flow, I'm thinking about canceling both my shore excursions. It's just so darn expensive to go through Disney! I've read of people just kinda winging it and having a great time. I think this might be especially true in Cabo-seems like you can get to a public beach area quickly, easily, and cheaply. If not, there's always the Goofy pool, right?

WOW! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: If we do get something special that will be wonderful!

Cherta - Going with flow and excursionless is what my DBro & DSil are doing.
My DSil speaks fluent spanish so she will be great at making arrangements while at port. My family decided to do the Horseback ride on the beach in Cabo. We did leave Matazlan open to go with the flow :sunny:

DonnettaR - Saw on another thread you were asking about the Golden Mickey Ears. If you find out they are not available on ship and you want them let me know. I might be able to help out. We are up at Dland every other week or so. In fact we plan on heading up this Sunday.

Goofy/Roger - How smart are you! We saw at least 3-4 DCL employees last Saturday, they were passing out the hands. I never even thought to ask about our cruise and our "special" date. . Very smart at least we have some hope!

We are excited about the news of our cruise being special!! Anything that happens on the trip will be special for us! It's going to be great all around :goodvibes

We are going to wing it in Cabo. I was talking to my DDs teacher today who spends 1 week/yr in Cabo. She said that the tour that takes you by the arches, the old mission and the sea lions is worth it and the kids would like it. She wasn't specific on what the tour was called (noisy on the school bus) or who she did it with. I'll look into it and see what is offered and follow up with her if need be. The teacher in her said it is better to sight see than spend the day at the beach. Weren't we taught to listen to the teacher? :)

We'll be at DL before the trip too, so if anyone needs something picked up, PM me.

Have a great weekend! SF was beautiful today!

Hi guys just saw this on another thread but thought everyone here who doesn't catch that thread would like to know.

An Evening of Magic -- Make-A-Wish Fundraiser, July 16 aboard the Disney Magic in the Port of Los Angeles. Below is a link to the press release.

http://www.thrillnetwork.com/stories_view.php/893

so now we know what's going on the night before we leave.

DisneyTart thanks!!
I found the offical fundraiser on Make A Wish. http://www.wish.org/disneycruise/ It looks like a lot of celebrities will be aboard our ship the night before. Maybe they will be going with us!!! Anyway this solves the mystery of July 16th.

We too are going to DL on Sunday. Last day I think that we are going to be able to go before summer.
Roger

Oh WOW, what a celeb list! The fact that Johnny Depp will be onboard for the party sent my DDs in a spin. :cloud9: Wonder if we can go and view them coming and going, like a red carpet event? We've never done that before. Since we plan on staying close to the ship that evening we'd be right around the corner :teeth:

Roger thanks for the link!

~~Bethany

Thought that I would throw some pictures your way of our family at Disneyland on Sunday. :earsboy: Better than bumping? Got a pirate hat, eye patch and earring for myself. DDs got swords pirate: (this may have been a mistake if you look at the pictures)and new autograph books for the cruise, and DW got a some new charms for her bracelet. Had dinner at Goofys Kitchen. Loved the new parade. This was our first visit since the May 5 changes. Had 2 photos chosen to be in the picture murals. Found one after 30 mins of looking. (and we had the coordinates. :rotfl2: Talk to you all soon.

Disneyland Photos

HI everyone,
GoofyontheHiSeas-Thanks for posting the pics of your trip to Disneyland. My girls have wanted to go, but, due to cost of this trip, I told them that the cruise is about as much Disney as they'll get this year! :rotfl: . Maybe I can placate them with a trip to Downtown Disney.

If everyone gets a chance, check out the other board (I'm sure you all do anyway, so sorry for being redundant!) Anyway, there a couple of good threads regarding boarding on the West Coast. Seems people are getting on later than they expected. Since we don't have to worry about disembarkation of passengers (except for celebs who may have partied a bit too much the night before :p ) , maybe we'll get to board early. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Hi all - Had a terrific time at DL yesterday. Didn't arrive until about 4PM and left at midnight. Did quite a bit while there, not as crowded as we thought it would be. The fireworks are a must see! Haven't always felt this way about the DL fireworks but the current show is great. Perfect for the 50th celebration.

Did lots of shopping :cool1: . Found the Golden Mickey Ears and got one for each in our family (9 total!). For the younger set we got the ears & put there names on the back. For the adults we got the fancy embroidery done and put our sail date/ Disneyland's Birth date on the back. Looks kinda "classy" for Mickey ears, that is. I'll try to attach a photo below. There didn't appear to be to be the shortage we had been told about, maybe we just hit a good day.
