July 13, 2008 - Cruisin' the Mexican Riviera

Welcome aboard The Great One. Is the cruise a surprise for your wife too?

We decided on our excursions tonight, so we'll be ready to book at midnight EST on 4-14-08. We are going to reserve the canopy adventure zip line in Puerto Vallarta, and the Salsa & Salsa in Mazatlan (this one sounds really fun). My kids are 18 and 13 years old, so they are excited to learn to salsa dance. We aren't going to schedule anything for Cabo since we've been there a bunch and have done quite a few of the offered options already. We will probably shop, eat lunch on the beach (the Office or Billigans), or just hang out on the beach.

We just paid off the trip this week, so it got me even more excited!!! :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

We got our excursions picked out. In Cabo we are doing Cabo Beach Break, then in Mazatlán we are doing City Highlights & Mexican Mardi Gras Fiesta. And in Puerto Vallarta, we aren't going to do anything, nothing really stood out to us on that one.

You have to be 18 or older to go to Palo, right? just making sure

Thanks Carole! Yes, the cruise is a surprise for my wife as well as the kids. I've secretly been making payments for the past year. Only one more to go, yippee!

I forgot to mention in my earlier post that our 1 year old is a boy and the 3 and 6 year olds are girls. Anyone out there with kids of similar ages? What does the DS/DD/DH stand for in posts? Darling son/daughter/husband? Still learning the lingo, sorry.

Did anyone reply regarding the previous post on how to bypass the seating waitlist? We have late but I don't think that will be good with 3 youngsters.

And I heard that swimming with dolphins is possible in one of the port cities but wasn't sure. Is this true? If so, do you sign up in advance with Disney or is it better to do it with the excursion place themselves (if you even can)? Has anyone done this event and would recommend or suggest another?

Thanks again. Looking forward to the cruise and hopefully getting to know some of you in advance.

yeah there is swimming with dolphins, I saw I was going to do it but decided not to pick that, I don't know if it is better to sign up with disney or not though. And like you I'm looking forward to getting to know people in advance also and hopefully meeting you all sometime during the trip, I met a lot of people on the cruise in 2006 and 2007 :goodvibes

Welcome aboard, Great One! :goodvibes We went on a 7 night Eastern Caribbean cruise last April with a DD6 (Darling Daughter, 6 yrs old) and DS4 (Darling Son, 4 years old). DCL is a great cruise line for kids this age. They hung out at the Oceaneer Club and Lab most every day. There are so many activities that our kids' didn't miss us at all. It's a little ironic that, with DCL being so geared to kids, it's also really geared for parents because they have so many chances to spend quality "alone time". We're really looking forward to our 2nd DCL cruise, I'm sure you'll have a great time. :thumbsup2

This is our fourth Disney Cruise. We have been on the Wonder twice and the Magic once before.

Great One, I am SO impressed! This is a huge surprise for your family! I wish I could be there to hear you tell them on Mothers' Day!

We will be booking our excursions on Sunday...can't wait! I was thinking abouth the Rhino 4X4 @ Cabo. Anyone out there who has done it? Is it worth it?

I counted a bunch of tween girls before. Are you all out there? I have a 12 yr old and a 10 yr old, and I would love to get a head start on introducing them to other girls going on the cruise. How fun for them to have friends waiting for them???

Disney Magic-inaugrual year cruise- was only a 4 d then

Carnival- 4 (didn't like)

Hey Great One, I'll have to get you to talk to my DH about planning surprises! Your family is going to be elated!

This is going to be our 4th cruise. All have been 7 days on the Magic.

Our excursions through Disney are all set. Now I'm just waiting to hear from Randi's Happy Horses in Mazatlan. Is anybody else going to reserve this one?

In our group it will be 3 families: My DD is 5, and my DS is 3. The other two families include a 5 year old boy, a 5 year old girl, a 4 year old boy and a 2 year old girl. We are very excited for our trip.

And you are exactly correct with the "lingo."

It is so great to see all of the excursions that everyone is doing. I just hope there are some great things left at the 75-day mark. We are looking at doing the Dolphin Kids in Cabo. I need to call DCL to see if they will let DS3 participate since the age limit is 4 and up. We were hoping to do this for a birthday gift since he turns 4 right after the trip.

Looking forward to meeting all of you.

Wow, I had a scare last night. I was waiting to do my Palo reservations and when midnight came and our window opened the Disney site said we were not paid in full yet :scared1: . This was news to me since I paid it back on March 4. So I sent an email to my travel agent to find out what happened and they were able to straighten things out but boy that was a scare.

Carole, when I finally did get on the site for making Palo reservations I saw that we are with you on the dinner and brunch so everything is set. Good thing you added us to your reservation because I did not get through last night with this mix up.

My DH has been looking through the excursion list and we are going to narrow it down but he doesn't think our DD14 will do the canopy excursions so I think we have to stay away from those. It's just not worth the money if she ends up not doing it.

We have the early seating for those who are interested. I really like the early seating because I couldn't eat that much food and then go to bed. Talk about sea sick

This is our 4th cruise, 3rd with Disney and one with Carnival. Needless to say we love Disney much more than Carnival :woohoo:

Now that the trip is paid for and the Palo brunch and tea ressies are in place, I am feeling like this is really happening! We are less than 90 days out, so it is time for my reintroduction. I'm Linda and did the Mexican Riviera on the Magic when it was her in 2005. I'll be traveling with DD 8 and DD 15 as well as my parents. There are also 2 other families with us. One with DS 9 and DD 5, the other with DD 8 and DS 5. Confused yet?

I can't wait to start packing!
Linda

I booked my excursions, Palo dinner, and Palo brunch last night. I'm soooooo excited! I had some technical problems at first, but with the help of the Disboard was able to figure it out and get everything booked. We got everything we hoped for:banana: .

Here is my reintroduction: We are a family of 4: there is me, my DH, DS 18 and DD 13. We are traveling with another family who has a DD 12. My daughter, husband and I have all been on DCL before, but not our son or other family. We look forward to sharing the experience with them.

I had the same problem. I posted a quick (panicky) note the main DCL part of the board and someone suggested I log off and then back on. It worked! I let out a huge YEAH and scared my family and the dogs. :rotfl:

My Group of people traveling is
Julia(Me)-20
Larry(Dad)

We have early seating

In Cabo we are doing Cabo Beach Break and in the other two ports we are still seeing what we want to do.

Anyone with early seating that might want to sit with other people let me know, I love meeting people :goodvibes
