Journey into Imagination with Figment closing

I'll believe it when I see it written from Disney - but I do agree it needs an update, refurb or replacement!

Gran Fiesta with Donald Duck (basically took the ride at Mexico and just threw Donald in)

I hate it -- talk about a ride that needs a refurb

What rides are you talking about? Nemo is the only ride I can think of at Epcot that has a movie tie-in. Maybe I'm forgetting some, though- which ones?

Any chance the new sponsor will be a big fan of the original Journey with Figment, Dreamfinder and want to bring back that magic to the pavillion?

That would really be the best case scenario.

My daughter will be very upset if this is true. it is her favorite ride and a must do several times each trip. She can repeat every word by heart

Epcot could use some work but it's in much better shape now than it was 15 years ago... in the mid-90s, the park was clearly still offering a very "early 80s" view of the future.

Mission Space, Test Track, Soarin' and the SSE refurb were all much needed updates (sorry Horizon Fans).

JIE is definitely due next... I'm guessing it's going to be refurbed (hopefully in a big way) and not shut down completely.

Maybe we'll find out more next month during D23... then, a year later, they can tell use what they REALLY plan to do. Ha.

WHEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FOR ALLL OF US GOING THIS YEAR!!!!!!!!!! WHEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

Right, because they closed Alien Encounter and replaced it with Stitch, and that was awesome!

Seriously, I'm not surprised, given the issues with sponsorship there.

Haha! I WISH they would close Stitch and put in something new. What about a cool ride about an actual scary alien (not an annoying one)? That would be novel. :):rotfl::rotfl:

This. I can never comprehend how anyone can look back longingly on the "old" Epcot. We used to joke that every single pavilion had some sort of footage of a space shuttle launch like it was some big futuristic deal. It became very dated the minute it opened. I remember our first visit the year it opened and we all remarked how this "new" state of the art park paled in comparison to the 1964 World's Fair. There is no better place to demonstrate Walt's original vision that WDW will never be "completed" and will always evolve. With that goal and mission statement in mind, JIA must go, and in no way should it take a step backwards to the lame ride that was presented upon opening. With so many technological advances now available and on the horizon, the Imagination pavilion should wow us with things to come. Not propeller driven derigibles from Jules Vernes 19th century world.

Has any one confirmed this with a bus driver or the guy that empties the trash cans???

Until then it is just a rumor.

Dan

Well the problem with the "things to come" approach is that they so quickly become outdated. That's why Tomorrowland in MK had to become the "future that never was" instead of the actual future.

World of Motion at Epcot was neat because it was like Spaceship Earth, more a history of travel than anything. Horizons did showcase future living, but actually not much of it has really come to pass!

I wish that they would keep the Figment character and do something imaginative with him. Unfortunately, imagination has been lacking at Epcot for some time.

The original wasn't "broke", but they've "fixed" it..twice. Maybe, third time's the charm? I wish DIsney, would do it right, but it seems, they've run out of magic.:sad2:

I love Figment. I hope if they close the ride, that they still keep him around somehow.

For those of us who were kids in the 1980's going to Disney, this was a favorite ride - for my sister and I, it was THE favorite. It's the only reason we wanted to ever go to Epcot. Figment was our favorite Disney character and we could spend hours playing in the upstairs area after the ride. I loved that rainbow corridor!

Don't forget COP in MK. The ending of that one keeps becoming dated too.

Really?

Three pages (so far) on "the CM said..." info from a first-time poster?

They should never have changed it from the original version. I used to love the original version as a kid, but now it is just a waste of time.
