It's good that Clinton went and they they were released, but there weren't any negotiations. The former President was there as a private individual and not as a representative of our Government... the Administration made that quite clear.

The journalists were likely released because Kim Jong Il got a great PR event for this trophy case that he thinks demonstrates to the World what a powerful guy he is:

In fact the dictator requested Bill Clinton come visit him.

Thank Goodness!!!!!

However, I have to add....
I see that the other thread was never closed... And it was very very very obviously political.

Apparantly, there is only a ban on political posts if they do not agree with the agenda of the powers that be. I noticed that political threads and flaming were banned at the time our current president took office... the previous president was open fodder.

The facts (non political) Bill Clinton did not negotiate anything....

Congrats to ALL that were involved.

Watching the plane go into the hanger. Ling's husband and sister have boarded the plane, I can't imagine the happiness in Burbank happening right now, especially for 4 year old little Hannah that has been asking where her mommy is and seeing her Mommy for the first time in 4 months. The smile on her face makes it all worth it.

Good job to all involved. Hopefully the same success can be reached with Iran.

Ah...the voice of reason.
I am quite glad that the women are free.

Good observations, Wishing...

I just heard Laura Ling on the radio describing how they were told that they had a "meeting" and walked in to see President Clinton standing there. It must have been an amazing moment to see a former president there and know that you were going home!

I saw it on TV. It was emotional.

The thing that got me was on the right was Ms. Ling's mother touching, stroking, walking around her daughter to see her from all sides and surround her with mother love and on the left, Hannah and HER mother were having a very touching reunion with soft and gentle touching and talking ending in a huge and never ending embrace. It was beautiful!!

Whether Mr Clinton negotiated or not, he brought them home and that's good news. The pictures are really touching. :)

I could care less whether Clinton negotiated or not or if he just showed up and did some shots with Jong and danced a jig. The fact that they are home safe, on US soil, hugging their loved ones is all that should matter. :cool1:

So glad this had a happy ending. :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 I agree! I don't care what he did, he went there and got them home and that is all that matters! I am so happy for them!

I find it somewhat odd that Bill Clinton was the one who ended up being able to bring these girls home. But, no matter now, they're home, no matter who or what got them here.

The reunion and press conference were very moving this morning. Those poor women have been through hell. Thank God they were able to get out of there. Kim Jong Il is an unstable individual, but if pandering to him with some nice pics of him and Bill shaking hands to hang on his wall is what it took, then I'm all for it. I think the guys from South Park depicted him quite accurately in their "Team America" movie a few years ago.
